thinking of learning this song, and looking through the you tube guitar videos, all the different versions of summertime, and I came across this....stopped right away and said to myself, now this guy knows what he's doing. smooth. love it. fantastic. you don't just play a lot of fast notes, you really play with feeling, and you have just the right laid back, "I do this in my sleep" approach. you don't try too hard and ruin it. perfect.
Recently found your channel. Great rendition of this classic. I really like how you continue to revisit the original melody. Many Jazz players do not and it is hard to tell which song they are playing. I am not a Jazz traditionalist but instead a rock-n-roll listener. I like hearing the melody during the improvisation. Great job!
Ugurcan Ozeroglu what silly response, how many dings DON’T repeat!! My GOD, this was great playing and takes amazing skill. Please send link to your song! Way to go Achim
i can play jazz musik because of you, my father in jazz music. i'm a new player to this music but one day i will be a good player cause of you. i learn with you and go on learning with you. danke schön für dein arbeit. Hier erste Video, mit dem ich meine Ausbildung begann
+Marius Pigna Hi Marius, I watched your complete video of you, playing my "Autumn Leaves" transcription, that was really amazing my friend, you are a talented guy, keep on practicing jazz guitar, all the best for your playing, best regards from Mainz, Germany, Achim Kohl
Just had to comment. So glad I came across this video, so very very nice. Makes me feel the same way I felt when I first discovered Gregor Hilden. Looked for you on iTunes but couldn't find you. Would love to download this onto my iPhone. Thanks for the music!
Just became a customer of your company. I am studying this song with my jazz teacher, and I thought I would cheat a little and get your music - I need all the help I can get!! thanks !
+Paul Kitas Gotta love that 137 custom, I just picked one up about a month ago to go along with my Fender Vibroverb amp. Now the only challenge is to play this well.
Achim, You are great player. Not Good, Great. As I listen to your videos I realize that I could benefit from watching your style. Your improve skills are tasteful and smooth. You fit notes into the changes neatly. Thanks for the Inspiration. JD
Great! What model guitar is that??? It looks like a ES-175 but thinner. I'd like to buy the transcription of your solo. Is the transcription the whole solo here?....or just partial? Again, Great!
thanks, it's a Gibson ES-137 Custom, it's not an archtop guitar, I changed the bridge with fine tuners. you can buy the complete transcription of this solo with backing track on my sheet music store.
Wow. Incredible playing. I'm trying to learn more scales because I'm a soloist in my school jazz band. What scales were you playing here, if you would be kind enough as to let me know. PS, your how to improvise videos are great and very helpful.
DJ Shredd Productions Summertime is basically a D Minor Blues, you can play the D Minor Blues scale throughout the complete song. I've played also the D natural minor scale, the arpeggios and a lot of chromatic approach between the chord notes. look out for the dominant 7th chord A7 in measure #8, #14 and #16, there you can play the altered scale or (one of my favorite arpeggio) a diminished arpeggio (G, Bb, C#, E). more information about my style you will find in the transcription of my solo improvisation of this song. best regards from mainz, germany
Amazing playing. I have the tabs, but it is even more exciting to just look at how you Play, catch the influence and improvise for myself. Thanx, anyway!
Might I inquire as to how you're getting that sound? String type/gauge, amp & settings, other studio-type effects? Outstanding, as all of your videos are. I am working with a 137 custom and Fender Twin and just quite nail your sound. Thanks for the help.
Hi Al, here is my gear list: Gibson ES-137 Custom, Pickups: Gibson Classic 57 Strings: Dr. Thomastik Bebop Strings 12 -- 50, medium string action (not too low!) Picks: Jim Dunlop Tortex Jazz III with a sharp tip I'm always using a little compressor, graphic EQ, and reverb, no amps for recordings, I play directly in my interface, that's all. But if you play with a Fender Twin you need a graphic EQ like MXR 6 or 10 band graphic EQ, you have to reduce the highs 2000 - 8000 khz about 2 db and cut the 16 000 khz. best regards from Mainz, Germany
Hi Friend, Greta rendition of a classic song. How do I down load the transcript for this song as your website is all in German. Can you please help. Many thanks
Can I ask you some question from Japan?. Near future,do you have any plans to open a live in Japan?,Also please tell us the name of your main band members.
八木澤修 thanks alot for your interest on my music, but I live here in germany and play only here live gigs, Japan is far away and unfortunately jazz guitar player are mainly paid badly . . . I'm very honoured that many guys from Japan - like you - like my kind of playing jazz, so keep in touch by watching my videos on youtube, best regards from mainz, germany
