Is this why people are praising this overrated game so much? Cos it's a one man developer? Rush Rally 3 was made by one man, and it's miles better. What's your point?
@@JaggedMercenary they're both rally games and they have their own style to it. Not saying which one's better. If you like rally by the technicality, go for RR3. If you like the aesthetic of 90s simplistic visuals arcade-y look and flow state of driving, go for art of rally. Plus, it's quite a stretch to say the devs made the game all by themselves when there are other people being credited in the credit section in both games. And no, that's not why people praised art of rally. It's a good game with good music, soundtrack, fun to drive, fun to experience, and accessible to all levels of players.
There's actually a few interesting stuff to look for in the open world tho: unlockable truck, based on a real-life truck that the one-man dev stayed in and made the game, and the cassette tapes that unlocks new soundtrack (the japanese map literally has one called "do it for takumi"). One more thing I wanna mention is the livery mod. Since Polacolor update, you can mod the car into any specific livery you want the car to have, either a history-accurate rally livery of the specific car, or a replica of the F&F Evo on an Evo.
@@somethingsomeone9678physics are absolutely awesome for this type of game. You can truly feel the weight of the car, if it‘s RWD or AWD etc. You can initiate a drift by hitting the brakes and transfering the weight to the front wheels helping you lose traction on the rears, you can do Scandy Flicks and Clutch Kicking. I barely know any game where nailing a perfect drift feels so damn rewarding. I find that some adjustments to stability control etc need to be made to improve the experience though.
@@sveenyidk I have the stability turned off but I also have a third person mod and it's very fun. I feel like I have a better feeling for the car than on the birds eye like view. I already finished the game with the normal camera so I can say that the camera view influences the feeling the most
i realy think funselector could make the greatest racing game ever, a game where you start of with street racing and touge and end with track driving would be so much fun
I really missed the notes of a co driver. I had many times I got suprised by a sudden corner. Which is frustrating when you have a great run and then suddenly crash because of lack of information. It also makes you drive more carefull and slower, even to a point that the cars are not anymore on their sweet spot. And to me pacenotes and the co driver are part of rally.. Which is sad, because the rest of the game is really spot on and great.
@laurensvandervleuten4522 It's mainly because of the camera placement. You have more information on screen so you don't really need a co-driver. But I get what you mean.
I liked playing Art of Rally and appreciated its graphics, but i have to say I had more fun playing Old School Rally the next day, I know it will be more fun when progressing more into the campaign of Art of Rally, but as it is a bit less arcade-y and dynamic at first, it will come with time, even if the distant view makes its feels less nervous. Loved the difference between car engine sounds and visual aspects. I'll for sure play AoR to chill and try to perform in its longer tracks, and switch sometimes to OSR to hunt nervously the time attack mode. Both great games alongside Trackmania. :)
art of rally def has a taller barrier to entry due to heavier weighted model. It took me a lot of focus and hours of crawling up difficulty ladder to reach those trance-like states of Zen Rallying while my car is on fire. There are ~3 tips for aor that help new drivers ride the thin line: 1. Start slow. Just try to make it through a full stage/lap (in free roam). Better to finish in last then not finish at all. The end screen leaderboard doesn't matter, only you and the stage ahead. 2. Corners (esp hairpins) always seem like your going slower than really are. So easy to overbrake off a cliff. 3. Use the full triggers of your controller. You only need to press the brakes slightly to slow down or initiate momentum change. Slamming the accelerator can lead to spinouts in turns. If using digital input...see tip #4. 4. Funselektor discord is awesome. They like helping new drivers and its great place to talk shop. Patience and determination lead to diligence. Diligence builds confidence Confidence through the rain, blood red dirt, and purple sunset lead to you mastering the art of rally.
This was the last racing game I played on my aging PC. It has min specs for GTA 4. Intel Q6600, 4Gb ram and AMD 1GB GPU. I could make playable settings but this game was not worth playing with reduced graphics. After I realized it I stopped using the wheel and handed it over to my brother instead.
if you understand how to drive a rally car then this is a great game, just turn off the assists for better control. its not going to hold your hands and teach you how to drive, prior knowledge of rally driving techniques is very helpful
I really enjoy the aesthetic of the game, but I find the handling quite challenging to the point of frustration. I've been experimenting with different assists and cars, trying to find a setup that I can handle and drive more comfortably
@ILLRICARDO Start off with group 2 cars and do free roaming and time trials. That way, you'll have a more manageable career mode after some practice. The weight of the cars are heavier, meaning you should only go fast if you're comfortable enough with the handling of the car.
I got the full 1000 gamer score on series X within a week as I just couldn’t put it down. Sadly the dlc does not offer any more achievements which is a missed opportunity for paid dlc. Great game though. I still go back to it from time to time as the driving model is so fantastic. I hope they are working on a sequel. I think from memory it was on Gamepass but I still bought the game just to support the developer anyway. I still hate the pesky concrete blocks to this day lol.
I don't know if he updated it or just that the mobile version doesn't have people, but when I played there weren't any fans on the tracks which I feel is more respectful to the sport and the people who were hurt because of it. Group b was extremely dangerous to both drivers and the audience, after all, and I think that if group b were to continue like this game's premise imagines, I think this is something that would need to change even if it doesn't "fit the spirit" of group b.
@spencerboyce6227 The game is merely a what if setting. The era was dangerous, but it was exciting for many at the time, and this game presents an alternate depiction of it continuing.
I like the idea of the game, but not a huge fan of the handling. But need more practice. Also, i just gor the new game from the publisher called golden lap in which you manage an F1 team in 70s
@AlexToma The handling is a bit more awkward at first. But once you get a feel for the cars weight it's not too bad. Ive heard about Golden Lap. Will have to check it out down the track.
It's a masterpiece as a total package. The soundtrack is nearly 60 tracks long of outstanding music, the visuals are unique and beautiful. Plenty of cars, all handle/sound markedly differently. Modding support. It's truly is an indie masterpiece as he said. I feel liked I've played all the similar games and this is far and away the best imo.
@@JaggedMercenaryRR3 it does have a top-down view. It's a very good game and more realistic per-se, but aor as a full package is my favourite.
