Dark Souls 3: Peak of the Dark Souls Trilogy
*SPOILERS*
Dark Souls 3 is the best game in the whole trilogy, and I will not be persuaded otherwise. A great end to one of the best trilogies ever made, and is still always a joy to come back to.
Notes:
- My perspective on PVP is ultimately limited and skewed since I don't engage in it as much as the PVE. But I wanted to at least acknowledge it.
- I was too engrossed in the games soundtrack I forgot to talk about it. It has arguably the best music in the trilogy.
- There's a lot of other things I didn't show. But it's honestly for the best that you discover the rest yourself.
- Once again, I went for a Samurai focused build in 3, which is why I didn't show the build variety.
- Character creation is pretty similar to the other 2. But because you get to keep your human form, you get to go wild and see it for the entire game.
- While Adaptability wasn't much of an issue for me, I'm glad it's gone.

Dark Souls 2: A Black Sheep Gem
มุมมอง 1.3K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
*SPOILERS* Well, I'm back again, and this time I'm finally talking about Dark Souls 2. It's more of a general take on the game rather than a personal journey like I had with the first Dark Souls. As I had said, everything else that came after 1 had been a continuation of that experience. Dark Souls 2 is the black sheep of the trilogy. It's generally considered the worst of the three and yet is ...

I was really tired of ds3 when it came out, imagine having so many cool places mentioned in ds1 and ds2 like Astora, Catarina, Balder, Carim, Thorolund, Vinheim, the Great Swamp, Zena etc and not visiting those places, instead they just came back to Lordran. Like WHY??? I love ds2 because of how different it is from ds1 yet similar at the same time. I just want to see more of the world, not the same places over and over again.

Yeah, I know what you mean. As much as I love 3, it's evident Miyazaki wanted to move on from it as quickly as possible. The closest thing to what you're looking for is the Archthrones mod for DS3. I would highly recommend checking it out if you haven't heard of it. Your point is also why Elden Ring is so much better than 3. Come to think of it. It's more life like in its world by comparison.

Dark Souls had an impact on me too. I dig watching other’s talk about their experiences with this magical game. The bits at 40:13 and 42:41 are beautiful. I enjoyed this video, I’m sure it was a lot of work, but your use of “objectively” at 1:20 kind of spoiled it. The words “objective” and “objectively” have been used more in DS2 critiques than any other game’s criticism I’ve come across. It’s like reviewers are apologizing for liking a game that a lot of people despise. I don’t understand it. Game criticism is subjective. DS2 cannot be “objectively” the worst or the best or anything in between. That’s not what “objectively” means. Feelings, experiences, thoughts, etc., about a game can never be objective, even if the whole of mankind agrees, because objectivity has nothing to do with consensus. DS2 is Best Souls. I have almost 1,000 hours in it. I apologize for nothing. It’s From’s beautiful, dark fairytale and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sorry for the long comment. You make good points, and I dig your writing. Hell, I liked and subscribed too. I’m sure I come off negative here, I’ve just reached my limit with this “objective” stuff lol. As a Ds3 strength build main, saying strength builds in Ds3 are less viable is a bit silly to me. It can be harder at times sure but every build has its problem boss or two. Overall, in my opinion anyway, strength builds are very viable because most of the time the slow swing speed is offset by the poise damage being so high. If not a full poise break you can usually get staggers on every hit if not every other hit. Plus the damage output of strength builds per swing is substantial, so the fight doesn’t usually drag on.

    • @brokenportals
      @brokenportals 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

Less viable just means it's doable, but you're at a disadvantage. Even with the poise breaks, your timing of attacks is more important in 3 than in the other games due to its faster speed. I still feel like the game is geared towards using dex weapons more than any of the other souls games whereas in 2 you can use anything and keep up no matter what.

Dark Souls II was my first one and I absolutely loved it, I have some of the best memories playing this game. In parallel to what was said in the video, I didn't play Dark Souls 1 and knew absolutely nothing about the series except it was supposedly very challenging. I didn't have a ''solid foundation'' already built up when I started and that might be why it's my favourite out of the three. It was the perfect game to introduce me to the DS world and an extremely good warm up to DS3. Then I tried DS1 and absolutely hated it for the amount of sheer BS you have to face compared to the 2 sequels lol (Hats off to those who finished it, cause I never could find the patience to go through yet lol)

@@brokenportals How to explain... in DS2 and DS3, if you're careful or very clever, you could notice and avoid most death traps before they happen or at least have an opportunity to mitigate the damage if you have very quick reaction time (not talking about bosses, just walking through environment) And in DS1, it always felt like getting slapped in the face by something unexpected that can only be avoided if you know its there from experience. Like you had to die from it 1st to know ''Oh! ok, there's something there'' The best example I can think of is obviously the Lake Hydra pitfall lol. To my knowledge, there's absolutely no way to tell there's a hole right there unless you fall into it 1st and to me it felt like DS1 was filled with those surprise moments. The part that made me quit, if I remember correctly, was in the forest close to the Lake Hydra. There's enemies camouflaged with the environment on the way there... but the contrast between textures was so unclear that even tho I knew they were there (cause I died to them 3-4 times by now) I'd still get caught by surprise... which is beside the point, but it's to say that even after 3-4 tries, I was still struggling to notice what I would assume to be obvious by now. The graphics seemed often merged in one big puddle and it was hard to distinguish enemies with claustrophobic camera angle. I'd almost compare it to those game like, Jumpking or Popostuck where you absolutely will fail first in order to progress and sometimes fail extremely hard enough to break your motivation. Therefore why I'm pulling my hats off to those who had enough patience to finish and experience the mindblowing lore DS1 offers.

The genre hasn't really changed since Q3, which goes to show how much it defined the genre. Other single-player games have taken elements from them, but they're more than just arena shooters.

Its good you pointed that out, because its important to recognise support for other libraries even if its not the main focus of the tool youre using. but all that means is that you find the tool that matches your criteria the best.

Man this game is so good. The music, the graphics, the gameplay, oh god. For me it's superior to Grand Turismo 2. The vibes this games has are soo good.

The best build engine game? No. Is it good? Well, yeah. There's nothing wrong with having a difficult game, dude. It's just that the zombies are a bit of a nuisance to fight, and feel like a waste of ammo if you use anything other than the pitchfork.
