......Ed, sorry to see the slug damage, they can do so much damage, and in such a short amount of time....I can watch another grower water and chat about thier orchids all day.....I really enjoyed this video......have a great week.
Hi Rick ther's more to care about in this world than slug damage.......I hate slugs but it's not their fault they were born that way!!!.....I'm like you I too can watch growers and listen to them when they are talking about the subject they have chosen......I don't like it when they start telling me their ailments and what they had for breakfast.....take care both of you and have a safe and fabulous weekend,,...... Ed.
Ed, I always enjoy watching your videos. It was so nice to see that you are growing your phals in lava rock. I've never tried that, but now I feel encouraged to try it with a couple. I noticed that your cymbidiums are growing in organic medium. Have you ever thought of using lava rock with them? Do you think they would grow in inorganic medium? Take care and stay safe. Looking forward to another video from you soon.
Hi Pat. I'm not sure yet that the Phals will adapt to lava rock .......as usual I still have some in bark. I think the Cymbidiums being terrestial orchids will do much better in bark......and imagine the weight of a large plant in rock. Have a lovely weekend Pat.....take care, Ed.
The sphagnum was specially ordered for the Dracula project.....I do agree with you it looks good.......just let's hope it does a good job !! Thanks Diana and take care, Ed.
Hi Ed the moss hade got dryer in a few days thair Ed a good whey to stop over watering with the scales. Nice to see growing spickes on the phalaenopsis one thing for sure the slugs won't get them indoors make sure you don't take a hiding slug into the house they love hiding and making a mess on the leaves im sure they will pick up in a few months in doors and the blooms will look fantastic have a good weekend Ed regards nick.
Good mornong Nick. All the phalaenopsis will be checked and re-potted if necessary to eliminate all signs of slugs and snails before bringing them indoors. The weighing of this one plant will show me how to water any orchid planted in sphagnum. Hope the weekend is being good to you.....take care, Ed.
I agree Lori......when you see one in the vicinity of your plants you know there will be some damage waiting for you to find......thanks Lori .....have a good weekend, Ed.
Thanks for sharing Ed. I was wondering, when is your next scheduled “flushing” with Epsom salts? I’m keen to try this with my collection as I’m noticing a bit of leaf tip burn possibly caused by extra fertiliser and salts? Thanks!
Hi Luis and thanks for your comment. A few things will cause leaf tip burn including, as you say, too much fertilizer....also under watering and over watering will give you the same problems. I tend to flush with a little Epsom salts every month or so, but I'm of the opinion that flushing with a good pure water one hour after fertilizing is the best way to overcome leaf tip burn. The plant will take up as much feed that it wants in the hour and a flushing immediately afterwards or within 24 hours should alleviate the problem.....thanks again and take care, Ed
Sadly you heard correctly Diana ....... strange to realise that we won't be seeing more videos from her.....she will be missed by her subscribers on this platform not only for her videos but for her very prescence. Ed,
