I believe Apple would prefer you use their own AirPrint driver. This makes it easier for the casual user, but more difficult to get the most out of a good printer.
I have a Mac air, new one and a brother HL2320D ~ the macair when setting up the printer wants me to choose a driver but there are no "brother" drivers to choose from ~ I picked a random one and was able to "add" the printer but it won't actually print the page. the printer works and runs the paper through but no printing on the page. I remember having this problem before with my MacBook but can't remember how I remedied it. any ideas? I need to use USB to connect, no wifi on my printer ~ thank you
I looked up that model and Brother recommends using AirPrint. If your machine does not support AirPrint, download Brother iPrint&Scan from the App Store. I would try one of those two methods first instead of another driver.

You should be able to run the printer driver installer from downloads. It will install the necessary files, ICC profiles, etc. into the system folders. Then you can either keep or delete the installer. Most printer drivers don't need to have anything copied to the applications folder.

But in general, printer drivers copy files to other system folders related to printing, color management, etc. but not necessarily Applications. So it depends on what type of package you download from Epson (or a different vendor).
Make sure to check the connection to the printer - either USB, ethernet, or WiFI. If the printer is not connected then the syste will not be able to add it.
I’m trying to install the available driver on the canon website for Mac OS 10.6.8 snow leopard. It’s for the Canon Pixma Pro 1. During the install I get a generic error that it failed to install and that I should contact the manufacturer. There are no resources about this.
Is there a way to manually install this? Like run a script inside the package and place the ppd in the correct folder or something?? Last resort I’m doing a reinstall of snow leopard.
Apple dropped support for Snow Leopard 10 years ago. This link shows the last driver released for Snow Leopard for the Canon PRO 1 was 2017: www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-pro-1 If that version does not work you could try contacting Canon. But given the age of the OS and printer, it may be difficult finding resources to fix the problem you are experiencing.
@@Binartem I tried to install the cups driver listed on the site you just sent me about a hundred times and at the VERY END of the installation i get a simple “installation failed” message with no explanation. I wish it would just work. maybe I have a bad copy of snow leopard. I just don’t understand why it won’t install.
@@ionluv I did a search for that error message associated with Canon drivers. One possible solution would be to repair disk permissions on the Mac first. It may be a permissions problem related to files the driver installer is trying to modify. If you search for repairing disk permissions there are several sites walk you through how to do this.

I’m not the most familiar with this old OS but I need it for an old scanner I want to use for film photography and it’s the only way to use it authentically. Thanks for your help with this video. I am doing ok until you get to 4.02 minutes. When I press + (add a printer) I (Mac OS Big Sur) just get a blank screen with "Search" accross the top and the blank NAME and KIND box. How do I find the installed printer driver from here?
That means macOS can not find any printers to install. Give it a few seconds to refresh. If nothing appears then I suggest you restart your Mac and printer. Also check the connection between the Mac and printer. Is it USB, ethernet, wireless?

After you download the driver from the printer manufacturer, you need to run the installation package you downloaded. Then you need to follow the steps in this video to add a new printer and select the driver that you just installed.
Im using mac os I had error on printer yesterday, I lost my driver's and now just saying idle. I have took the printer off reinstall it and still saying the same. Please help. Two days trying to work it out
if you reinstall the driver and you still can not communicate with the printer, you may need to reset the printing system. Go to System Preferences and click on Printer and Scanners. Then right-click on the left hand side on the list of printers. Select the option "Reset printing system". This will remove all drivers and reset the printing system to a clean state. Then follow the steps in this video to reinstall your driver.

This is useful if installing a printer for the first time.. but how do you update a printer that you already have on your system with an updated driver? I have an Epson Stylus Pro 7880 printer using driver version 10.33 but they have released a newer driver version 10.85
Some versions of macOS will check for updated printer drivers and offer to install them for you, as part of the system check for software updates. However, for the same reason that you want to make sure you are using the official vendor driver (and not AirPrint) the most reliable way is to uninstall the old driver and repeat the procedure for the new driver.
If you don't have printer listed, click the little + box, bottom left. If the printed does not then pop up, you have to go to the printer menu and poke around until you find the IP address. Then..Go back to the install printer screen and the little globe at the top, click that, it will lead you to where to install the IP address and you can move forward.

Big Sur probably needs new drivers for your printer. Big Sur also has a nasty habit of updating the drivers automatically and sometimes using AirPrint instead of the driver for the printer. You need to go to Printers & Scanners in System Preferences and delete the L120 driver. Then go to the Epson website and download the Big Sur driver. From there just follow the instructions in the video on how to install the driver.

Bonjour is typically the default network configuration available used for connecting using macOS. Although you could also use the TCPIP connection as well. There are some advantages to Bonjour, such as network sharing.
Thanks for this! It's solved an issue that I've been struggling with for months. When sharing printers using Parallels for Windows applications the post-script editor would come on and print from the wrong tray, or the wrong size! It's been driving me mad. I followed this for a Brother MFC model and it now works perfectly. Can't thank you enough. You would be forgiven for thinking the 'software select' option was the Mac finding this driver but it seems not and that you need to get it directly from the supplier.
I'm glad the video helped. Apple seem to want to oversimplify things for the user, with their AirPrint driver, which can limit the functionality of more feature rich photo printers.
This video is focused on photo printing. I recommend you contact the printer manufacturer. I am not familiar with how to install drivers for laser engraving machines, and they may have their own control software.

Is your printer connected via USB, ethernet, or WiFi? USB will be most reliable. If your iMac still can not see the printer, try using a different USB cable.
Just bought a new Mac Air but going to the Samsung site there are no drivers for their Samsung SCX-4300 series or any Samsung printers. Any way to get this Mac Air with Sonoma 14.5 working?

Epson may be able to communicate with their printers without the use of a driver. You would need to contact Epson support to be sure.

Is this an older printer? I can not find much information online, and the driver download only seems to go up to OS X v10.10.

Im using EpsonL120 and upgrade from Catalina to Big Sur. Now I cannot use my printer. I don't know what to do. Please help.

Not helpful at all my iMac simply wasn’t finding my printer..
Is your printer connected via USB, ethernet, or WiFi? USB will be most reliable. If your iMac still can not see the printer, try using a different USB cable.
