Great idea. I did similar things at school using a glass working lathe (asbestos covered chuck jaws), a diamond to scratch the glass, an oxy torch with a fine tip, and a wet rag. The advantage of the oxy is that you can fire-polish the edge after. It's a bit wasteful on gas as you have to cool the glass over a few minutes, to avoid cracking.
Literally one of my favorite "how-to's" in TH-cam history. So simple but brilliant.

I notice parts of the wire glowing where they didn't touch the glass. Also as the wire heated it expanded and if the clothes peg was already nearly closed at the start, the wire could slip down.
This would be interesting if it could cut glass in shapes. But for just slicing a bottle in half there are much easier methods like scoring the glass and running under hot and cold water.

No clue. But there are online nichrome calculators that may or may not be of help to you.

You can also do this by filling the glass bottle to the required level with water & putting it in a microwave oven on full power until the glass breaks, will break perfectly inline with the water level.

Straighten the wire before using it and the cut edge will be much cleaner. Yes it is possible. Done it hundreds of times. No need for a glas cutter.
You might not believe it, but it is actually possible to cut a clothespin with a handsaw. You don't have to build a miniature circular saw first. No joke!

when u heat glass ( or any material) it expands and undergoes a thermal stress, when u heat a small part of the glass it endures alot of thermal stress causing the glass to (break)* not cutting by any means

does this work with angles. like having one side of the wire higher than the other? the glass polishing is the easy part.
There are far less involved ways to cut glass. Toilet paper, lighter fluid and cold water, works great.
