      is there part two? because using heat by itself will not cut the glass as you showed, I am sure you used diamond blade or something similar first.

      @@ll-Mark1-ll Agreed, you can clearly see a score mark.

      Heat alone works, applied locally.

    • @xMeta4x
      @xMeta4x ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DieDoeDa Nope, it won't split along a precise line like that, might shatter. Looking at the previous video where he shows how to score them, must be scored. Otherwise there's nowhere for the glass to break from.

    • @DieDoeDa
      @DieDoeDa ปีที่แล้ว

      @@xMeta4x I did this with yarn+lighter fluid +bucket of water some 30 years back. Works without scoring, you just have to create a narrow border zone between the cold and the hot part of the glass, then it'll shatter along that thermal stress line.

    • @buggsy5
      @buggsy5 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The design is beautiful and the person used mostly proper tools and techniques.
      Never use solder on an electrical connection. This is even more true when the connection is under stress - such as this project.
      Never use a screw or any other thread as an attachment point to fasten a wire in place.
      The fuse should probably be on the power input of the power supply - although one on the load side as well is nice.
      It looks like the homemade power supply had only a two wire input. With a metal case, it needs to be 3 wire - to accommodate an equipment ground.
      The only shortcoming mechanically I saw was that it will accommodate only one diameter of bottle.

    I saw a similar but much simpler approach in the 1950s in Popular Mechanics and I tried it and it works just as well as the one here. The idea is the same. Score the bottle with a glass cutter or carbide knife as done here. But, rather than build the contraption shown, simply wrap a strand of straight nichrome wire around the bottle on the score line, apply tension (a weight, spring, etc.), and apply electricity - no bottle spinning necessary - and the bottle breaks at the score line. As a note, if you are going to cut a bottle, it is a good idea to have some abrasive handy (carborundum is really good) in order to smooth the edges of the bottle - they are sharp and will cut you.

      hai ragione. ma forse esagera un po. si possono tagliare bottiglie a perfezione anche con un centesimo della attrezzatura che usa qui. in una frazione del tempo si costruisce il sistema per tagliare a misura e con il diamante di taglia la bottiglia. poi con una massetta di picchia dal di dentro e la bottiglia si divide. Ma ... a me sta bene che lui faccia di questi ricamini. però non mostra che questo sistema ha una certa erraticità intrinseca. e questo è scorretto secondo me. dovrebbe mostrare anche le volte che i tagli non vengono perfetti. non solo le volte che è venuto benissimo.

    That is a terrific concept (and execution). I only wish it would work on bottles that are not cylinders.
    Getting an oval or square or irregularly shapped bottle to lay flat like that doesn't work very well. I'll have to make one that works in an upright fashion so that the bottle can remain flat while it is being turned.

      Put a line of yarn on the intended cut line, soak with some lighter fuel and set it on fire, wait a moment and then submerge the bottle into a bucket with water, to introduce the needed thermal stress that then fractures the bottle along the hot line created by the burning yarn.

    When I think of precision, I think of your channel!
    I’d love to see how you would build an MFT - similar to what Festool makes, but with your own unique spin.
    There are so many bad videos on this subject, but very few good ones. Specifically, people build MFTs that are ok for clamping, but not necessarily to be used for square. They never guarantee that their 20mm holes on 96mm centers are accurately placed. Which always makes me wonder why they go through the process of making so many holes if they cannot be used for accuracy?
    The reality is that accuracy is not easy, but extremely important!
