I find it hilarious how often horror game protagonists, instead of heading for the stairs like a normal person (or at least trying), are so quick to put their faith in the safety of an elevator in a broken down, abandoned building, which wasn’t even working until they fetch quested a magic repair fuse. Elevators can be sketchy at the best of times. In a spooky abandoned building in a possible alternate dimension they’d be better taking their chances out the window! Another banger Harry! You’re always so patient with explaining these game plots, however ridiculous, but it’s so funny now and again when you’re clearly exasperated with it!
You can just tell this game was heavily inspired by resident evil, particularly RE7, and the menu style looks like it. Complicated puzzles and secret mutations done in hidden labs; the red growth resembles the mold; the little girl even looks like Evelyn. Hell, Even the mysterious man was blond like Albert Wesker. But, like you said, this game didn't know what it wanted to be and it wasn't bad honestly.
It’s reminiscent of several popular survival horror games; outlast, resident evil, silent hill. All around the game feels cookie cutter not doing anything unique or special but disjointed due to it failing to establish its own identity tbh
Nah, RE7 was more largely inspired by films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Evil Dead. I will say though, that the RE franchise was dying and needed something to revive it. The popular thing at the time was the whole first person narrow corridor thing, and if it saved my favourite franchise ever, then I’m okay with that.
What about Project Zero, which the Camera had the ability to unveal things and to destroy the ghost while taking shots? Im thinking in Fobia the Camera had this mysterious cube from Christopher inside of it?
About Stephanie roles in the story that's my guess : she's trying to actively stop the hotel's receptionist by Roberto since the former is too powerful. She always give him appointment in places way to far from where he is, she never display herself at the dates (and I can assume she's not even where she tell him to go, she just check roberto's movement from the 8th floor control room) and when she notice Roberto overcome the danger she make him move again and again in hope he get killed. When after all she meets Roberto in the end (nobody ever got this far, like : I always managed to stop every other guest before) she can't do anything else than go all-in and try to stab the other guy
God I love Harry's videos, a game I think would be interesting to dig into would be fade into silence. It isn't like many games that Harry plays it's a open world survival horror with a mystery behind the games events and what happened
That sweet momemt when you watched all of your recent subscriptions, and just as you think there’s nothing left to watch while you’re eating supper, out comes a new Lore and Order video ❤️
I really appreciate you breaking the objective reporting style to call out flaws where you see it fit. This type of story introducing overly complicated elements like time travel often ends of biting off more than they can chew, trying to appear complex and deep while losing concistency and creating contradictions left and right
What's easy to miss is Harry's (hope that's your name guy) intellectual prowess, investigative capacity, and depth of insight. You could teach a new brand of collegiate studies that takes gaming as a form of interactive, interpretive literature with someone like VaatiVidya. You two are both a credit to the gaming world shedding light for so many of us (30+ adults included) students to learn and wonder again.
thanks harry this was a much needed explain video... i had high hopes for the game when started watching ur playthrough but soon it just became too much to keep track ... great video :)
Everyone's saying that this game reminds them of resident evil (which it does) but the part where you need to get elevator buttons and go to different floors is reminiscent of Luigi's mansion 3😂
I think Christopher sending Emily back again has to do with some kind of space-time continuum stuff. If Emily never went back, it would make that chain of events simply cease to exist. If he truly wants to change the future, he'd have to sacrifice certain things leading up to what he wants changed, but he may have no clue where the sacrifice begins. At what point can he change the future? Emily falling into the vat of whatever the hell could've been an unavoidable necessary evil in his attempts to save Roberto so he can save his machine. He mentions having to do it all again when Roberto shoots him, and he does do it all over again (the looping.) He wants a specific outcome and he's willing to do what it takes to do that, he just needs to know at what point can he begin playing with it. He likely only wants ONE thing changed, so it doesn't make sense to change the entire past leading up to him meeting Roberto. He needs Emily to travel back so the loop can continue, he needs Emily to go back so he can capture her at the start to set off the events leading up to Roberto working on the Universal Transporter thingy. I actually kinda like that detail
wow! props for getting every detail I missed! most people can only understand if they dive real deep. this game is like one other! but now it make more sense. thanks Harry :)
22:30 So in our real world most theoretical physicists believe that if time travel (backwards) does exist at some point then it will most likely be the closed loop type aka if you travel back in time and end up triggering a set of events to happen around the past version of you, when that past version of you gets to the now they must also travel backwards in time so that you can trigger them same events and you just have to hope that after you did what had to be done you don’t do a Samuel Beckett (If you guys don’t know who that is go watch quantum leap you’ll thank me later) and just keep on jumping. Now I don’t know if the people that made this game knew any of the above or not but ???
Why would you just lie like that? That creates paradoxes tho… no modern physicists, even theoretical physicists believe backwards time travel exists. They believe forward time travel can exist but backwards is impossible. Talking out your ass.
Ok, so, has anybody noticed that the spike monster thing flips the bird at the player when it dies? It's just me? Alright, check 4:59 to make sure I ain't seeing things....
I love your content and the work you do to tell these interesting stories in one video. But I noticed you haven’t done Control by Remedy Entertainment. I think that would be an awesome video since it has a lot of lore and does have some horror elements as well.
4:35 "But there was no button for the first floor, there was a button for the seventh floor however" Roberto, my brother in Christ, put the button in the first floor hole Man's as daft as Leon in RE2
Thanks for trying to explain. While playing I followed along with no problem until the lab section and then I got lost lol Maybe they will make a 2bd one to have it make more sense. I actually really enjoyed this game.
Tbh Fobia has me intruiged with whatever this company has plans for next. The game may not of been the best out there but for a smaller dev team its super impressive and even the writing has me intruiged
The Story is all over the place in this game. I think if you are play this game for the story , then the disappointment you feel at the end is immesurable. But good job on explaining the ending.
This channel actually gave me the incentive to play horror games. I'm currently playing through In Sound Mind, not too creepy nor hard but definitely interesting. Think you'll do a video on it someday?
Second time in a row where there is a camera who can make the user travel between worlds/times/dimensions. The other one is from MADiSON. Great good video, but the games is still confusing, like a lot.
Stephanie could have been the girl's mother in the future? Roberto is the father of Emily. So, he is the key to the events happening from the start. If Roberto decides to join forces with Christopher, more Emilys can be created from the exact same loop happening. If not, he is put through everything again until Christopher gets the result he wants. In turn, that would be exactly what his mission statement was earlier in the game " Making free will a distant memory" (Just my 2 cents)
On a side note, the accident Emily had, could have involved the orb. Maybe even, her being the first human test subject and being transported along with the orb accidentally to the mine belonging to Christopher.
You need to do the: Lust from Beyond, series of surviva horror game explanations… I know they are more adult themed, with the graphic nudity and sexual violence. But im sure you could chop out an ad friendly explanation of such!
This game deserves so much more love. I brought it for PS5 on a whim wanting a different horror experience. It’s honestly fantastic, UNTIL you reach The Bunker. But exploring the Hotel, slowly solving puzzles and unlocking more of it felt fantasruc
Evil mastermind characters, and even the main character, don't know enough to double tap? She walks up behind him and just stabs him once, then backs up and stands there as he advances on her and stabs her to death. Main character has a gun. Shoots once then lays there to get stabbed to death. Maybe he only had one bullet left. Fair enough. But that didn't seem to be the case.
do you think you'd ever do a lore video on the ObScure series? like the games are actually called ObScure and ObScure: the Aftermath. i don't think i've seen anyone else cover them but they were REALLY goofy horror games made to be like slasher movies. 1 was a bit more genuine and earnest in its plot, but 2 really went whole hog with its ridiculousness. they're the bane of my existence and i love them for it, so it'd be cool to see :)
Time travel is a very difficult thing to pull off. They were never changing the end but going in a continuous cycle never ending… this is why I hate time use people do it wrong.
Love your videos! I wonder if you could do the game Song of horrors? Its a lovecraftian horror game that terrified me. Never finished it because it scared me too much
They probably lured all the R.L.-s to the hotel because of the letter Emily dropped in the mines in 1920., not knowing which one was the R.L. they actually needed.
I kind of feel this game is the devs having watched Dark and wanted to do a similar narrative but without involving a bunch of family timelines and a nuclear explosion.
The thing that especially bugs me is just what the hell was that camera for and from? It was said to be able to see through dimensions and the lab notes suggesting that they were building a "Universal transporter" suggests that some sort of multiversal research was taking place, but what the hell did that have anything to do with the Sacred Trail wanted? Harry’s sassiness increases in direct proportionality to how questionable a game becomes. Definitely makes the videos more enjoyable!
