    Absolutely wonderful instructions! I’m building an 8’x12’ shed right now and our next step is putting the t-1-11’s up. This video is a godsend!

    For the window - if you’ve got one - it’s easier and even more accurate to just hang the siding. Then, drill a hole, and cutout windows, doors, etc. with a flush-cut router

  • @woodmanmade

    Nice work! To get some additional water proofing, put some z-flashing above the base PVC trim to divert any water that may make its way between the siding and the trim

    • @smitaaay
      @smitaaay 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This also makes it look very professional. I just put my z-flashing on, yesterday, and it totally changed the way it looks. I know, I know, it's just gonna get covered up, haha, but it still looks good. 🙂👍

      I do not like the z channel look on the building. It looks unfinished. Is there anything wrong with just abutting the PVC ledger to the LP?

    • @woodmanmade
      @woodmanmade 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      if the siding overlaps the foundation then the water can be diverted but siding like this shouldn't be close to the ground as it absorbs water (see install instructions). flashing is the "proper" way but if it's just a shed you could probably get away with house wrap and caulking

    it is not stupid to use screws to start. if you ever have a mess up at least you can take the panel off without trying to dig them out with a cats paw or pry it off with a crow bar. it allows for adjustments.

    I wished that this was available when I did my shed roof makeover on my well house. I made it up as I went along and fell off of some scaffolding along the way. It's still holding and there's no mold growing due to gaps, so I'm proud. You are speaking waaaaay too fast for some of us older folks. Please don't forget that women like to DIY too and wouldn't it be great if there were a set of tools that were female friendly??? Business ideas anyone?

    My house actually has this type of vertical siding, which is nice because the existing shed and dog house matches. So my additional sheds will match also. I like the look of this siding on my house, much better than the horizontal siding that overlaps. The flat look is very nice and clean looking, especially with the light tan color that I have, with brick accents.

    Question on the tall vertical siding, what do you do on the seams? I used 4x8 sheets and I have a top seam, do I need to treat the edge? Also, your trim, can I rip 1/2 inch plywood and paint that for my trim. Should I use caulking on raw seams? and cover with trim?

    Great build! Question about using the Smartside panels horizontally on the front. I'm building a shed now (not as nice as yours) and was wanting to do that on one side. My understanding is that LP says not to do it. Have you noticed any adverse effects? Leaks? Again, love the style of instruction. Subscribed.

    • @AndrewThronImprovements
      @AndrewThronImprovements  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi - appreciate you watching and the subscription! I read that on the installation instructions as well...but no, no adverse side effects so far. I'm sure it has to do with the ability to "wick" moisture - so as long as you have a sufficient overhang, I would think you would be OK.

    • @atulanandadas
      @atulanandadas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The strength of the LP smart siding 4x8 sheets comes from installing them vertically. Also water build up in the grooves could be a big problem if you live in a wet climate.

    • @atulanandadas

      If it’s foam insulation you just place it between the studs, fiberglass style is usually nailed between the studs after siding is installed, before the interior finish wall is installed.

    8:18 Hi Andrew! My mom and I are building your 10x10 shed and bought your plans. We have installed all the smartSide panels and my question is for the front. We followed your directions for the horizontal pieces but the 2x4 top piece seems to not line up well with the top sheathing because of the underlament piece at the top. The top sheathing is not flush with the smartSide panel. Did you cut off that underlament part of the smartSide panel at the top? Thanks Andrew!

      @@KevenDRayne i like to use rim board and no never calk it that will hold the water in. Lot of people use no rim but i had a shop that i resided years ago and after 10yrs the bottom of the LP rotted out . You should be ok as you have a good over hang. Also when you make cuts to LP you should reseal with primer to stop water from wicking. I am just now finishing up a tiny house i might make a video about all the steps.

    Do you caulk the bottom of the siding or leave it open so water may get out?

    • @smitaaay
      @smitaaay ปีที่แล้ว

      On the LP Smart Siding Website, they say to leave a 3/8" gap between the panel and the trim at the bottom. They also say to put in Z Flashing underneath the panel and over the trim. They specifically say not to caulk or seal any edge with flashing. The Z Flashing with the 3/8" gap will allow the water to drain and will prevent water damage to the siding and the trim.
