The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. I think that's the beauty of their worship. Such things can be used short term to be used for good in the long run. After all the chimer couldn't really become their own without their influence, and in time they turned such influence into good. Good can mean many things, so to the chimer, daedric princes helping them become their own made them favorable

It's kind of hard not to love them, they have an absurd amount of history and character-building over the other races thanks to Morrowind.

Imagine if they _didn’t_ make the Nords just a whiter race of Imperial Pantheon simps lol. And we ALREADY had the background lore on the old Nordic Pantheon, so it was such a missed opportunity. Like where was Orkey, also known as the “Old Knocker”, the Nordic interpretation of Arkay, but with elements of Malacath mixed in since they resented Orkey for the short lifespans of the Nords? He wasn’t mentioned a single time by a single NPC, but I guess the supposed art of him and the other ancient Nordic gods, on the small portion of walls right before each of the Claw doors in ancient Nordic tombs, was supposed to be enough for us? _Bethesda, please, don’t insult us with your retcon-happy trigger fingers_ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No Jhunal (Julianos), but okay, Nords are prejudiced against magic. Tsun, the god of trials against adversity, who was supposedly killed while defending Shor (Lorkhan/Shezzar) from the Elven gods , did make an appearance in Sovngarde at the Whale Bone Bridge, but it’s not like most people are going to know anything about him being a dead god, or the brother of Stuhn (Stendarr), because Bethesda did such a disservice to the Nordic Pantheon by leaving 95% of their lore out of Skyrim.
And speaking of Stuhn, why in the world would there not be remnants of Nords who still worship Stuhn, instead of Stendarr? Stendarr is the Imperial god of mercy, which is fine, but Stuhn just fits the Nords so much better, since he was the brother of Tsun, the Shield-Thane of Shor, and the god of RANSOM, who taught the Nordic people how to take, and the benefits _of_ taking prisoners of war. That’s so dope, and way more interesting than the cookie cutter puritan _Stendarr_ lol.
They did do Dibella, Mara, and Ysmir (Talos) justice, as well as Alduin (Akatosh) obviously lol, but it’s kinda hard to mess those three up because they’re basically identical to the Imperial versions.
But the way they did Kyne (the much edgier precursor to Kynareth) so dirty was something I’d call the heresy of the ages.
Kyne, the Goddess of the Storm, warrior-wife turned warrior-widow of Shor, the Mother of Men, and the Kiss at the End who leads fallen Nords peacefully through her domain to the afterlife. Kyne was considered the actual chief divine in their Pantheon, as opposed to Alduin/Akatosh, and she is said to have whispered to Paarthurnax to take pity on men during the Dragon War against the oppressive dragons and their out of control leader, and older brother of Paarthurnax, Alduin. Because of Kyne, Paarthurnax defected to the side of men, and taught the Nords how to shout.
And the absolute best they could apparently, is talking to a belligerent old codger in a tiny shack in the middle of the forest, listening to him talk about how shitty Kynareth is compared to Kyne, and going on the “sacred trials” of Kyne with his help of “anointing” you with the symbols of a bunch of ethereal vermin, crabs, mammoths and trolls that you have to run all over Skyrim to kill in 10 seconds. Then you go back to his shack, get a stupid amulet that’s somehow even bad in the _early game_ and thats it. You get called a friend by this old dude who talked shit about you as soon as he met you. No meaningful interactions with Kyne whatsoever, which seems a bit ridiculous even though she’s an Aedra, considering you’re literally the legendary Dragonborn who did her sacred trials. Kyne is legitimately worshipped in Skyrim, plenty enough for her to appear to you as an aspect. Like come on, Talos and freaking _ZENITHAR_ of all gods (he’s my favorite tho lol) appeared to talk to you and give you Aedric artifacts in MORROWIND!!!!
The Redguard god of luck, Sai, was said to have been very popular in Skyrim in the past too, but not a peep about him either. Or the god that actually granted godhood to Sai in the first place, Ebonarm, but they’ve functionally retconned him out of existence period, unless you count the Ebony Warrior as a tongue in cheek reference to Ebonarm having existed.
*sigh* Bethesda......
Maybe they’ll attempt to redeem themselves by doing the Redguards proper justice in Hammerfell, with their basically alien pantheon to most people.
i know its five years later but Nords, Dunmer and even those beta cuck bretons are the best races due to the magical resistance. High elves have extra magic but they weirdly have an unlisted 5% fire weakness making them probably fifth place behind Orcs who get in the top five due to berserkers rage, bc you can always wait a day b4 a boss fight

Veloth is the literal reason we've come to enjoy Dunmeri society and culture. The Altmer were always known for their devotion to the Aedra, but, Veloth envisioned the exodus and led his followers to lands ripe for picking. This is exactly why what the Tribunal did was wrong, the "Good" Daedra which bestowed them life on another province were ultimately betrayed by their own product.
The good Daedra didn't really do anything for the Chimer/Dunmer.
Look at the Dunmer now.
The Tribunal did lots for the Dunmer and they were stronger than ever when ruled by the tribunal
The good daedra are the ones who guided the Chimer and created their culture. Morrowind’s greatest saint and leader was a devoted of the three good daedra and was guided by Azura, Nerevar’s time is called the peak of Velothi culture and is why he is idolised. The Tribunal murdered Nerevar, Morrowind’s greatest leader and lied about it for thousands of years. Sotha Sil who criticised Azura for being to absent eventually became even more absent then Azura ever was. Vivec held Vvardenfell hostage with Baar Dau. Almalexia became to protective. Due to the Tribunal the Dunmer were coddled and eventually their culture stagnated due to being coddled. It was the Tribunal betraying Nerevar and refusing to unbind the Heart that lead to Dagoth Ur coming back and threatening to spread Corpus to all of Morrowind and possibly all of Tamriel.
Azura sent the Nerevarine do stop Dagoth Ur, who killed Almalexia due to her going insane and killing Sotha Sil. Azura helped Vivec save Morrowind during ESO and she also warned many Dunmer about the Red Year before it happened. Boethiah and Mephala created the foundations of Velothi culture.

@@the_dropbear4392 Every one of the "Good" Daedra aided the Chimer in the Great Exodus, whether that be individualizing, protecting or institutionalizing themselves on Resdayn/on their journey to Resdayn. The Chimer hit peak quality of life during Nerevar's reign in the First Era, he even managed to form a council with the Dwemer, a group known for their own extremist outlook on alliances. They even managed to beat the Dwemer and fend off another Nordic attack at the 2nd Battle of Red Mountain. The Chimer successfully created a functional society with proud nationalistic values. Now, the Tribunal did what they had to due to the influence of the Heart, Nerevar obviously resisted it's essence but it caught up to his lieutenants nonetheless, they had to somehow grant solace to the people who witnessed their own skin turn Gray. Yes, the Tribunal granted the Dunmer a pretty stable foothold during the 2nd Era, but it all feigned once their past finally caught up(Dagoth Ur). Sotha Sil's mental health deteriorated into a self-loathing mess due to what he perceived his legacy as: built upon betrayal and grief. Almalexia attained maddening traits as a result of not finding a way to cope and Vivec was just a glorified domestic terrorist, holding his disciples of Vivec City "hostage". Now, tell me how things would've progressed if Nerevar potentially managed to lock away the tools with the support of Azura and all of his lieutenants, we'd have a race even more sophisticated enough than the Dwemer - I can start listing Nerevar's accomplishments as a King but I'd be futile. Also, the Tribunal were once Chimer themselves, so if it wasn't for Velothi creating a divergence in the Aldmeri race and culture, the Tribunal wouldn't have been a thing anyways.
Veloth is basically the Moses of The Elder Scrolls.

"He claimed to see a hawk in the sky" reminds me of Mexico's migration myth, where they followed an eagle with a snake in its claws to their new home...where they built a city of pyramids upon a lake and worshipped God Kings. I still think there's many connections between Morrowind and Mexico, would be curious to ask Kirkbride about it someday. I may be reaching still but damn is it fun lol.
1 year late but I think that's a strong inspiration for the game's lore. Like look at Vehk's temple (looks like a pyramid; is on the waters of the Ascadian Isles)

I'm confused. The daedra are literally "not their ancestors." It's not just the name; they're the et'ada that DIDN'T aid Lorkhan in the creation of Mundus.
By ancestors the Chimer/Dunmer mean their mortal ancestors. Hence the Ghostfences which they put up using remains of their loved dead ones to protect them. Hence they hate necromancy so vehemently because basically it uses dead bodies for profane practices. The main reason they stopped venerating the Aedra is the rest of the Aldmers' (at that time,back in Merethic Era) 'anti- Lorkhan attitude'i think. Because the Dunmer are essentially Padomaics or 'pro-Lorkhan'..That lead them eventually to become Daedra followers 😉

I'd like to see a video on Dunmer funeral customs. I've bern in so many temples & tombs yet I'm still confused by the Dunmer way of disposing of the dead. There are ash pits with bones. Are they cremated there? If so, how is the smoke vented? Shouldn't there be soot on the walls & ceiling? What's up with the urns? There is bone meal in them. How did that get in there? I can understand that the Dunmer would wish to keep dead bodies out of the hands of necromancers, but what is the process?
Skyrim build suggestion a Nordic berserker with two axes that uses the brand new ulags legacy mod for weapons and armor can use a ton of berserker potions as well as stamina to make him really fun to play plz make this
Thunder god: obviously inspired by Thor uses the mjorniir mod and cape mod with steel armour and can be lore friendly if the back story is handled correctly
Hey Scott, Michael and Drew. I have an interesting question for you. I’ve come back to Skyrim after venturing off into the land of red dead and Ancient Greece and opened a new character with the express challenge of being able to functionally play every faction without break role play. It has proven extraordinarily interesting and a ton of fun. I know how I am doing this and the path i chose but would love to see how you guys pull it off. (The master came close, but didn’t hit every faction.)
Obviously one cannot be both imperial and stormcloak or Dawnguard and vampire in the end. I’ve solved the stormcloak / imperial in my head... the Dawnguard / vampire is proving a bit more difficult though.
I really like these lately morrowind-like videos.
I haven't really played too much Morrowind, so it's like a lot of lore I haven't really dived too deep into taken a step deeper for me

I wonder why meridia isnt considered a good daedra. Or even malacath considering neither of them are as evil as the others. I guess maybe malacath doesnt fit as well because he tried to stop them from breaking away from audra worship but meridia is pretty easy to see as a good daedra.

i wonder, is it posible to do what the tribunal did before without cheating like they did...that is to say become as close to an actual god as any creature of flesh can, immortal infinitely powerfull ect ....the only being i know of whos come close is a certain sorcerer who lives in a small commune on the edge of Vvardenfell....who probly died when red mountain blew its top unless he saw it coming and bailed out.
and im not talking about acheiving chim either because that just plunks you down in the realm of the divines and with the same restrictions as them

Who would take the time to dislike this? Why are you even watching? Wtf? I am perplexed. Even if you weren't interested in TES lore, why take the seconds necessary to click the thumbs down? It makes me hate portions of humanity when I see either, purposeful disrespect simply to be a dick or someone who thinks their opinion matters so much, that they should take the time to dislike any video they don't love. I have watched thousands of hours of youtube videos. Never thumbs downed a single one.
I started playing elder scrolls with skyrim and the only thing i knew about dunmers was that they were a type of elf. ESO didnt really change much of that but this vid did.

Those from fudgemuppet may as well be gods for as far as I can tell they know seemingly everything there is to know about the Elder Scrolls and all knowledge pertaining to the lore. Not even hermaeus Mora can compete with their combined knowledge nor jyggalag with his all-encompassing logic and order.
I believe that Zarick Zhakaron has been helping them with lore videos for some time now, isn't he?
@@OokamiLucas It's possible I'm not entirely sure. Perhaps they have played way to much Elder Scrolls. Arena, daggerfall, Morrowind, oblivion and Skyrim that's a lot of lore. Some changes from game to game. I wonder how much is cannon.
