I loved the episode of Justice League superman battled in a gladiator style fights and ended up fighting Mongul and a beaten down fighter had to help superman
I liked the episode but hated that part. It doesn’t line up with Mongul’s level of power when he showed up again in a later episode. That beaten down fighter managed to solo Mongul yet Mongul is able to overpower most of the League(freaking Wonder Woman and an enraged Superman included) singlehandedly. It doesn’t make sense.
If I'm not mistaken Mongul is DC's expy/counterpart to Thanos, which is himself Marvel's expy/counterpart to Darkseid. So technically Mongul is a third generation Darkseid Duplicate, kinda like his symbolic/idiological grandson.

Simple Batman has proven time and time again that he is well loved and sells extremely well. Warner Bros is too afraid to take risks on other characters if they don't sell well enough. We are lucky that WW and Aquaman succeeded.

My "perfect" Superman movie trilogy would have Mongol as the third movie villain. I would love to see him capture Superman and Supergirl and do the gladiatorial combat thing. he's cruel and powerful enough to to fit the "last villain" role and Mongal could add some villain in-fighting ad split up the final battle, with the Kryptonians teaming up while the tyrants are too busy fighting each other.
