    Question...Was the "Sweep Test" on the Cluster Performed? (Key-Off...Depress Menu Switch on Cluster...Key-On) It "sweeps" all Gauges and checks lights on my 2007 JK Unlimited)

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, we did not know about the sweep test. That's awesome! It would have been interesting to test that on this Jeep, since the cluster was what ended up being the problem. Good test to have in the arsenal tho, thank you for explaining it!

    Hello! I have a small question, will a bad clock spring also cause the wiper and light issue?

    Finally foud our issue - replaced the instrument cluster. Thought it was the TIPM (per dealiership and my own research) but replacement did not fix. Bought used one on eBay and had it programmed to mileage. fixed!

    I've had this exact same issue for years. Every once in a while it does the same thing. I have two batteries in my 2011 with a marine switch for them at the batteries. I turn the battery switch to off and turn it right back on and its fixed. Lasts for about 6 months to a year. I have no idea why it does it, but I've heard solder connections in the tipm can set it off.

    I have a 2017 JKU and I’m having crazy TIPM issues. My wipers won’t turn off, windows won’t roll down (scary in an emergency), fog lights flicker on and off, having issues with the Uconnect/Bluetooth, and of course swaybar disconnect light flashing yet cannot disable or engage the swaybar.
    I cleaned the battery and noticed a cracked terminal so I’m replacing that tomorrow. I took out the TIPM and checked all fuses which appear ok, but I’ll need to re-check.
    I ordered a refurbished TIPM from Maks TIPM rebuilders. It’s coming tomorrow so I will pop it in and see if that works. They have a rental program so I can send it back, less the rental cost, if it isn’t the problem.
    Glad I found your video. You just gave me a lot more to consider. I also can’t get an appointment with the dealer for two weeks. I’m supposed to leave on a cross country road trip in two weeks, but can’t do that if I’m having all these issues and can’t solve it.

    "Possessed" is the exact word I have been using for my 07 JKU. It will only start if both front seat are occupied. If the weight comes off either seat, it dies. If you try to start it without a passenger, it starter won't disengage, but DOES disengage and the engine starts when someone sits on the passenger seat! So, next week, when I have time, I am removing and cleaning it all.

    Great video, been fighting this problem for about a year now on 2015 jk, first happened (windshield wipers turn on, all the idiot lights, but not any of the warning like tipm, lights flash, then it started working again and came back six months later). I have replaced the battery and new after market terminals (dont get me started on the terminals that are hard connected to the wiring harness, so i cut the terminal off and added vgate terminals, they are much better, but with an optima battery the negative terminal butts up against the plastic battery housing and if you have to cut down a six mm allen wrench in order to tighten it up). So now it's even gotten worse, it can just sit in the garage and it happens every few minutes or so, no issue door ajar problems. I do have a sway bar disconnect so i will look at those this weekend, along with checking the grounds and probably discharge the tipm completely, pull the tipm, check the fuses and basically just unplug and plug back in and hope that helps. after that, if it is down to cluster, canbus or tipm, hopefully the dealer can tell me which one. I agree if you know which part went bad, easy to swap. thanks again for your video, great job

    Great video - Mine seems to require an instrument cluster replacement. I have a 2009 JK Sport - do you know if an instrument cluster from 2011 - 17 will fit my vehicle? I've been told conflicting things.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our experience is by no means exhaustive but we've found that JK's prior to 2011 all had year-specific instrument clusters. So you need a 2008 for a 2008 and a 2007 for a 2007, etc. In 2011 they standardized the clusters and they fit every JK from 2011 on. We found ours on eBay and we see at this moment there's a couple 2008 clusters available. Thanks for the question!

    Hello thank you so much for the video. When I get home from work I’m going to be running through your check list on my wife’s 2015 jeep wrangler. Our issue is the wiper blades and fog lights seem to have a mind of their own. They turn on and off all by themselves constantly, and now the headlights don’t seem to respond to what your trying to do whether you’re turning them on or off with the stalk. They will say the lights are off, but they’re actually on and the only way you can get the lights to turn off is to shut the jeep off.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks for the comment! Yes, the Jeep is behaving exactly as its supposed to, even tho it seems like it has a mind of its own. The computer has lost contact with the headlight and wiper switch, so it doesn't know what position you have them in, and for safety reasons (in case its a dark and stormy night, because the computer doesn't know that either), it turns everything on. You can pull the fuse for the wipers, but it won't hurt anything to drive it with the headlights on. But just following the steps in the video will get you through all the items that could cause loss of communication and more than half of them don't require any new parts. There is a possibility it will be the cluster (like ours was) or the TIPM itself, but you can avoid throwing parts at it by going through all the steps in the video. Good luck, you got this!

    I bought an 07 with a blown engine, i couldn't test much, however the price was right.
    Engine rebuilt, i missed a single airbag sensor in the front (left).
    All was fine except for some oddness issues with the o2 sensors...
    Then i find the connector for the airbag, i commect it, the light goes out.
    I'm thinking "yay! All lights in the dash are off!".
    Then the weird shit starts while I'm doing engine break-in runs... lol

    I left the top off all night and it rained, might that be a cause for no horn, wipers on, no blinkers or brights. Or is it the TIPM?

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Welp, we remove the top on the one in the video as soon as it gets above about 60 degrees and it stays off until we start to freeze to death in the late fall, and that Jeep has been rained on more times than I can count. Multiple times its filled up with so much rain water that it only stopped filling because it reached the door sills and was able to pour out. We've driven it repeatedly with water sloshing around our feet (before we learned to cut flaps in the carpet so we could reach the drain plugs), and across innumerable river crossings here on the Front Range in Colorado. Not once has it had an electrical problem associated with water. So I would say your issue is more likely to be TIPM related than water related. Jeep's pretty good about keeping the important electronics out of the weather even when the top and doors are off. But if you follow the steps in the video, you'll track down your culprit. Good luck!

    My headlights would turn on, wiper blades turned on and wouldn't turn off, turn signals wouldn't work either. Before changing any parts I torqued down my grounds as well as battery terminals, turned my 2008 Jeep Wrangler back on and after about 5 seconds my car went back to normal operation. I was very thankful I didn't need any parts or further testing.

    When did you put Wiper fuse back in TIPM?....No "fuel pump" relay or "Wiper" relay issues in TIPM...TIPM relays notorious for 2007 failure....part#No NEXEM Phillipines EX2-2015 884 2860...if you can still find them? Rebuilds were a "Cottage Industry" back in the day!

    Was looking to find out what's going on with my 2011 jeep. I woke up at 230am to find headlights and interior lights on, hubby went to go look and as he was going downstairs, I seen them turn off and turn back on, it creeped me out. It was like someone was in it turning the headlights on and off, by the time he went out, they just stayed on. As he opened the door and hit the interior buttons on and off and unlocked and locked the doors, they ended up turning off, but it's like it's haunted too. It hadn't been driven in like a day. Keys get hung up by the door, so I'm watching this video rn and sending it to him to see if we can figure it out.

    My 2010 used to remote start by itself and turn the lights on. Then it’d click off. I had a warn wench on it at the time, it came that way from dealership. Had all these random ass blue wires on the battery, turned out the wench was shorting it out cause the previous owner slapped it together. Drove me nuts cause we went through a lot of batteries before we figured it out

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  ปีที่แล้ว

      We always, always remove all the aftermarket wiring from any used vehicle we buy, for precisely this reason. Remote starting itself is a new one but its a darn good thing you don't have a manual. We could imagine coming out to the garage and seeing the JK having driven itself away... or through the back of the garage. Yikes! Glad you were able to get it fixed. It absolutely amazes us how many people who have no idea what they're doing with automotive electrical will just happily rewire stuff. Insane. Thanks for commenting!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It did. The wipers come on because the computer doesn’t know what position the switch is in so in case you need the wipers, it defaults to turning them on. My issue with my compass is when I make a turn or use my signals, the wipers go off. The only tonstop the wipers is actually turning the wipers dial all the way up or using the opposite signal light. I've taken it to the dealer and to my mechanic and both can never find codes. I never have issues with any code lights coming in either.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We wouldn't expect to see any codes in a situation like that. It sounds like your switch is shorting out and when you use the turn signals, the wipes get a signal (the same one the blinkers are getting). As far as the Compass is concerned, you turned on the wipers so its just doing what it was told. If it were our vehicle, we'd inspect the turn signal and see if there were any damaged wires or if the mechanism itself could possibly short out and make contact on both connections. Good luck with it and thanks for the question!

    I have a question for you... So I had the exact same thing as you did in the beginning of this video. My 2010 Sahara needed the radiator replaced so they put a new one in. Then while going down the checklist here trying to figure out whats going on and waiting for the cluster to come in, she decided not to crank over anymore. Put in the new cluster, that fixed the issues like yours did. But she still won't start. TIPM fuses are fine. Any ideas on what might be going on?? Any of your input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So there's a phenomenon we fall victim too quite often, and that's forgetting that although its unlikely, it is possible to have two completely unrelated problems at the same time. So we spend all our time looking at the issue from the original problem only to find, hours later after we've thrown way too many parts and hours at the problem, that it was a simple but entirely unrelated problem. So our advice here is to treat this as its own problem until you prove to yourself that its related, instead of the other way around. Cold can cause the starter wire to stop flowing power, if its a little corroded internally. So first things first. Check fuse J17. Its a 40amp fuse and its controls the starter relay. If that's good, then put a multimeter or test light on the relay wire at the starter and see if you're getting a signal when you turn the key. If you are, then the problem has nothing to do with the ignition or TIPM or anything like that. In this case, the problem is going to be in the starter cable or the starter itself. If you don't have a signal at the starter, then its going to be either in the starter relay, the wiring or the PCM. The PCM sends a signal to engage the starter relay, so you can test if that signal is going from the PCM and also if it makes to the TIPM. If it does, check that there's a signal coming out of the TIPM to go to the starter. That will tell you if its in the wiring. If all that is good, try a new starter relay. Google JK starter circuit diagram, there's a bunch of good ones, and its a very simple circuit; you should be able to track down the issue pretty quickly. Good luck!!

      P0841 is a transmission control module code. We haven't found any instances of this code being thrown because of a TIPM issue (which doesn't mean yours isn't, just that it's not super common).
