- Fixing one of Jeep's #1 problems, the clock spring. Do you have dash lights that come on? Have you lost traction control or antilock brakes? Well it might be due to the failure of the clock spring behind the steering wheel. Unfortunately it is normally an expensive part unless we try this ebay special.

This is the type of content needed, things to help the little gut save money.
Nice tip on touching the battery terminals together. Very well put together how to.
I purchased a used 2010 jku Rubicon, in Colorado. Then I took it into the local dealership in NM to get it checked for recalls, and the clock spring was a recall item. They took it to the shop, and it came back out in an hour, all no charge.
Same here. Had to wait 3 months because the parts were back ordered. Must have been a big run on them.
Great video Colt. FYI turn the steering wheel lock to lock and back to center on start for relearn. This will get the computer to acquire new data to reset dash lights. If you should continue to have issues check the steering angle with a scanner. The steering angle has to be 0 degrees or system will not function correctly. If angle is off adjust draglink. I hope this helps someone it took me months of research to fix my JKU.
Good morning Colt I really like the idea that you do how to videos that can help people and save them a lot of money.
I wish more people would do stuff like this to be honest a lot of people aren't made of money and can't just go buy brand new or take to the dealer
I absolutely hate those damn clock springs
This doesn't help my 97, but it'll certainly help others. Keep these coming. I like to learn from TH-cam University as much as I turn off my brain to be entertained. Thanks
Smart move. I always love "beating the system " when it comes to auto repair.
I get nervous about replacing the clock springs on any car! That discharge practice is golden when you grounded the positive lead. I don’t like the airbag going off either!!
Just having "JEEP" logos on anything makes it much more pricey! Nice to know there are places to go and find info for DYI. Thanks for taking the time to put this out there.
Always good to know a easier cheaper way to do things on your vehicle
Nice information to know about the clock spring replacement as well of the tip with touching the battery terminals together after they are disconnected.
The dash lights just came on and the cruise quit working. Lasted the drive home then went away. Timing of your video was perfect. Sounds like a clock spring on my 2017 Rubicon is in my future. Thanks Colt
Just a tip-After you put it back together turn the key on then go out nd hook up the battery. That way if it blows your not in front of it, And also set it aside with the bag facing up
that way incase of a accidental deployment it won't get air born
I have never owned a Jeep but if this is a common problem I would be able to fix it myself now for sure!!! Thx for sharing.
Great info Thanks. Last year (mid 2023) I had my 2010 fixed for this on a recall. (Free) They told me the recall had been extended because so many needed it and parts were slow in coming. They also told me not all 2010’s meet the recall so your instructions are well needed.
Dude you’re like Macgyver with this stuff! Great video man!
Wow, thanks!
Great channel Colt, these subjects are truly helpful and for those of us that do not mind getting into it, Must commend you on how you simply explain the processes Well done Mate !!
I appreciate that!
Thanks so much for sharing this information!! I have a 2010 doing those very things but I have to admit, this seems a little intimating! You make things look so easy and I admire how you're not afraid to tackle anything!! Thanks again!
Thanks Colt. 2014 Wrangler owner here and so far so good. 🤞
Great video. I get a shudder every once in awhile when turning and braking on a right hand turn. Also when hitting potholes or a rough road my traction control light pops on. I think you solved my mystery issue. Thxs again 👍
Replace the hubs, too. These jeeps are so easy to work on.
I have 2016 JKU and they change it just a little bit. The bag is is held on by a couple of little bolts hid on the sides. I also picked up my clock spring from eBay and it was identical to the factory one I replaced, right down to the numbers imprinted one each other.
Keep up the great work. Really loving the new channel.
Love the content Colt keep it up !!
I’ve noticed the big problem with the dodge pentastar engines is the lifters and cam issues they start a little tick and gets worse the roller needle bearings fail great video !
Yep. Pentastar tick. Had to replace one of my cams and all my rockers last year.
Thanks for the video. Had the same problems. Showed everything that I needed to do. Took about hour and a half. For me. But all in all. Fixed the problem. Again thank you for the help

Like how you walk through each step and explain what you are doing. Very good.
This type of instructional tutorial is one of the greatest benefits of TH-cam. Although I'm not ever going to do this particular repair procedure, I am impressed with how you laid out the repair steps and added coherent and thoughtful commentary. Nice Job!!

I've been watching you for a while now.
Your video on changing a transfer case into a doubler or adding a doubler to it, helped me a lot.
Thank you.
This is nuts, I had not idea. I own a 17' also. Thank you for sharing
Colt, that's great information...and does comfort alot of us that have heard of these problems and would have been completely lost. Thank you!! now that I'm down to my last payment on my bare bones 2018 JK I will be making upgrades.. your videos are great and welcome to NM
Have a 2014 JKU. Never seen or heard of this problem. Never seen a steering wheel removed. I am gaining a lot of respect for your channel. Very well presented instruction. Not something I would like to face, but you made it a little less scary. Keep it up!

Love the channel great advice and best of all money saving tips. Plus I know absolutely nothing about vehicles except the very basics so this is great information.
Knew the issue as soon as you mentioned the dummy lights coming on during a turn. Great tutorial as always and here's to getting to 100K subs, Colt. Cheers!

That’s a really good video! I sold my last Jeep with that issue. 🤦🏻♂️ could’ve fixed it for $50!
This one is saved.
I need to replace my clock spring.
Thanks
My dads jeep was in and out of the shop for months! It was this problem!! Wished i had of seen this Ellery... they charged him all together $4k. I have been watching your channel for a while. Please keep up the good work!!!
That was awesome Colt. Thanks man
I love the thought of how to videos for specific problems. I plan on starting a channel building stuff. And I also want to do specific how to videos on stuff that I can’t find videos of or the videos I fine are making it way to complicated to do it. Keep up the great work
Outstandingly done. Great content. And after hearing it start up. Sounds like you need to visit Paul Cox for some exhaust work. LOL
You deserve your own channel. Good luck.
Great information, had the same problem on my jk, did same thing you did, glad you shared the info with everyone, always good to pass it on, save some money on parts not to mention labor, $50 is a whole lot cheaper than $ 1000 at a dealer
Good information, thank you.
Great how to video presentation. Keep them coming!!! I had an issue with a front wheel hub bearing on 1/2 ton Ram, it was bad and the return process made me swear off the cheap eBay or any online parts forever.
🚨Colt, you definitely need to make some kinda of a TH-cam short regarding this fix and link it back to this video 👍🏼
Could just be me but I typed in "JK clock spring replacement" and boom, there it was, second video down.
Thanks for the information.
Perfect timing, I was just looking at replacing the clock-spring on my 2010 Wrangler.
Check for a recall. Got my 2010 done free on an extended recall in 12/‘23
@@BillyBoulder Thanks, I’ll check that out.
A great instructional Colt. Just did the same on Subaru Forester, all fixed.
Hey Colt. Thank for showing this and helping to take the mystery out of it!
You bet!
It was amazing to meet you at the off road games! Love the pacer and the S 10 build.
For any one who has not had the opportunity he is a stellar guy!
Thank you Colt 🤠
Colt thank you! You have a wealth of knowledge that I appreciate you sharing. I Have a 2014 jku with this issue, started with battery connection, moved on to thinking it was water intrusion in the sway bar disconnect module, but after seeing this I believe you put me on the proper track. A little intimidated to deal with the air bag but I will figure it out with your help here.
I love my jeep and this may save our relationship, not to mention keep my wife happy since she drives it way more than I get to.
