My controller buttons started feeling sticky about 3 days after I got it, without me spilling anything on it or something like that. I even contacted Sony to get it replaced, but they would have required me to send it back and then they would "evaluate" it for about 3 weeks and so on. Completely absurd. It was my only controller, so it made no sense. I used some alcohol on the outside every few days, and it did improve a bit, but not for long. Such a hassle to have to keep cleaning it or push through playing with damn sticky buttons. Fast forward a couple of months and I came across this video. Finally got around following it, and it worked! It feels literally better than new, specially considering mine started getting sticky almost out of the box. Highly recommend it, and do watch those ribbon cables. You can't be too careful. Loved the instructions by the way. In many tutorials they just do it but don't explain the little details that do make a difference, like keeping the ribbon cables from getting stuck and the direction to unclip the front plate. 10/10, would follow tutorial again!
Yeah great design choice by Sony. "Oh there's an area of the controller, you need to access to clean? Let's make them take the entire controller apart from the back"🙄. The new controller sucks, I never had a button stick on my PS4 controller, but in the only 2 months I've had 2 stuck buttons on the dualsense🤬
@@rugbyelite1361 Yeah... PS5 controller seems to be extremely prone for shit to get inside. I had a friend at my house and we had couple of beers, didn't even spill the stuff on controller but apparently some kind of small stuff from hands got in and now I'm fcked
Just rub a qtip with rubbing alcohol in circles around the button and press it a bunch of times, repeat until no longer sticking. DO NOT drench it in alcohol. Do at your own risk. Many people will break their controllers disassembling it!
Oh my god Thanks! This tip help. I was worried about dissembling, your tip help. Its like new, i just spray little 98 percent alc. On my sticky triangle button, press it bunch times and it work and don't demage my dualscense, if i dissembling it, it can demage it.
Also mistakes made while disassembling voids the warranty. If I had a dollar for every time someone said they tried to fix the problem by taking it apart because of some video online......
My son busted a stress ball of sand over the controller. Every button was jammed. This video saved our controller! I was easily able to follow along and clean the controller. Thank you!!
Before making a video for a controller tear down can you PLEASE use a camera that can focus correctly, this was hell and a handbasket because of the other end of the mic ribbon came loose I cannot figure out where to put it for an hour. But once I finally did and put it back together the buttons do feel better thank you
I discovered that my buttons weren’t sticking because they were dirty but the rubber retaining piece had come loose and was no longer snugly attached to the four little prongs. This allowed extra play in the button and was preventing it from quickly returning to neutral. I feel this is likely the cause of many of the early sticking problems people are experiencing. Thank you for this video. I’ve never attempted anything like this and I was able to do it with minimal effort.
TJ that is awesome man, good job! You make a good point there as well, with another potential problem people could be having revolving around that rubber piece on the back of the buttons. Thanks for the feedback we love it!
@@kushajustabird7337 reattach it to the four little pegs by pushing it snuggly. I think when the controllers are shipping from the factory, they aren’t secured well and are coming loose very easily.
Great tutorial and very easy to follow. At first I was intimidated by the thought of disecting my controller, but it wasn't too bad with this guide. This fixed my sticky button issue and you saved me from buying a new controller. Thank you!
this is the perfect solution, safe and efficient! this happened to two of my controller and the video helped with the first, as for the second, the stickiness was closer to the surface so I used air can to clear any particles around the button. I'd suggest trying that first if you're not sure about opening your controller but in any case this video has by far the best solution to this problem! thank you once more Gamenetics DIY!!
bro you literally saved my life. I was going absolutely ballistic with the sticky buttons. I tried cleaning the outside so many times until I came across your video and felt confident enough to break it apart without accidentally damaging it and having to purchase a new one. Thanks a lot man!
No idea how my one button got sticky but this fixed the issue. Kept each screw part ina separate container than I screenshoted and named to make it easier. You helped a ton!
Really nice walk through! None of the fluff that normally plagues these kind of vids, meaning I don't need to start skipping bits and missing important information... Not that I ever did that with the ps4's WiFi pin wire... 🙄
Cannot stress this enough, really be so so careful with the ribbon cables. Just tried to take one out, being as gentle as would allow me to remove it, and it tore in half :))) Yay for easy controller maintenance.

This video made it so easy man, Thanks. Step by step you were on point with everything, no more sticky buttons!! Also wanted to add if it helps anyone I was a little nervous putting the ribbons back in the slots. Each ribbon on top is shaped like a T head. For the bigger ribbons, I placed them on the slot loosely, then used my finger nails on each side to push them down with no problems.
Totally understand, if you follow this tutorial exactly, you should be just fine :) If you have any issues let us know! First thing you could try is getting a cloth and cleaning the buttons and trying to clean around the insides of them too.
So I've had the red and black controllers since release and the red has had a sticky d-pad basically since I bought it. Finally decided to do something about it and this video helped so much.
My brand new controller had a stiff & squishy X button, right out of the box. It drove me insane and I was about to send it in or buy a new one but this video saved my life 🤘🏼 It was a little nerve racking but it ended up being extremely simple and I’m just happy that I don’t have to wait a month for Sony to fix it or spend $70 on a new one now 😁
Thank you for the guide! It seemed like a daunting task to take the controller apart but it was actually easy with your guide, I successfully fixed my buttons. Keep up the good work!
@3:55 - Not just take out this panel with a pry tool. There's 2 clips on right and left side, you need to pry them open. Thanks, you didn't mention it, I've broken one.
Thanks for this video!! Just followed it and can happily say i successfully took it apart, cleaned it and put it back together and it has totally stopped the buttons from sticking! 😊 although i didnt have the white part on top of the inside of the controller at 4:14 so didnt need to unscrew anything for some reason but really great tutorial. Saved me 60 on another controller ❤
Thanks for this, my controller had a really spongy X button. It didn’t even seem to be grimy in there, but getting it out and wiping everything down has fixed it and it feels like new.
This tutorial is very helpful. I fixed my sticky button problem and my controller and it works perfectly! This also prevented me from buying a new controller. Thank you!

My brother was ready to throw out his controller over a sticky triangle button, thanks for the help on disassembly, I cleaned out the gunk and it’s as good as new
Great video. I just need to open it up and clean the sticks with some alocohol in hopes that the drift would go away and it did! Thanks for the video 👍
Haven't even had mine a few months. Buttons were so sticky they were stuck. What caused the buttons to get so sticky so quick? Kids. Lol. Thanks for the video. So thanks a bunch for the video. Got it all apart, cleaned and good to go.
Thanks man, this worked a treat ! My control is a month old but thanks to my toddler, It brought me to this video. Lol Maybe it was meant to be ! 😂 Subbed.
Great video, fairly simple to follow. Fixed my sticky Circle button!! Alcohol wasnt working anymore so this was a permament fix. May i suggest better lighting and also more closeups with the camera on focus. Too many times it was out of focus. Just some constructive criticism 👍🏻

I just put some rubbing alcohol on a q tip and rubbed it on the sides of the button then repeatedly pressed the button to get the little amount of rubbing alcohol inside and work the stickyness out and worked pre good
