- Each one of these drills play a unique roll in gymnastics which is why I love this circuit so much. Gymnastics drills are essential for developing the core skills required in the sport, including strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination. The handstand, for instance, is a foundational move that enhances upper body strength and spatial awareness, which are critical for more complex skills. Single leg jumps strengthen the lower body and improve balance, while box jumps build explosive power and agility, aiding in vaults and tumbling passes.The candlestick split jump focuses on flexibility and strength, crucial for performing dynamic movements in routines. Lunge jumps enhance lower body stability and quickness, allowing gymnasts to transition smoothly between skills. Lastly, bridge curls strengthen the posterior chain and improve strength in the hamstrings. Together, these drills create a comprehensive training regimen that prepares gymnasts for success in their performances.
