“Thas better”
Jay and Silent Bob looks like skaters or fighters the way they dressed.
And to think, they wanted to replace Mewes with Seth Green or Breckin Myer. Yeah, it's understandable that Mewes had no prior credits other than Clerks, but you cannot just replace Jay like that.
ZyxthePest a well known video host once commented that JASON MEWES is exactly like his character in the movies one of the few people he knows whose always real!!
+ZyxthePest was that the time when he went to rehab or something?
No, this was right after Clerks, so he was completely unknown.
Funny enough both Brecken and Seth said that Jason Mewes should be playing Jay.
+pvtrichter88 actually I've heard he's quite the opposite. Jay mewes has a bunch of phobias and is very shy!
I loved how Brody carried around that tiny cup of soda... like the entire movie.
Damn, didn’t he have a small cup of soda in Strike Back also? Didn’t even notice till you pointed it out.
Yeah I showed my best friend this movie recently and he asked about the cup as well, I never noticed it

It's not that it's "bad acting" it just doesn't make any effort to be Academy Award acting. It's tone is subtly comedic with how straightforward and constantly sarcastic it is. The "badness" is on purpose and works perfectly.

Mallrats is criminally underrated. Easily my favorite Kevin Smith film.
Actually it's _criminally OVERrated._ The general consensus among both critics and general moviegoers is that Kevin Smith wasn't even trying when he did _Mallrats._
And it's very easy to see why. Other than a few select scenes this film is a real stinker.
@@donarthiazi2443 nah, its good old fashioned fun. And Ive seen Academy Award winning films I haven't wanted to watch again-in that regard, Mallrats is far superior since Ive seen it like ten times

I agree. The problem with this film, according critics and fans is the level of humor is so childish that it's barely watchable. It's as if there were a couple of drunk high school freshmen that wrote the script.
And since we've seen how good Kevin Smith CAN be it makes it that much harder to watch his movies like these.

For some reason I find the part when Jay is banging on the glass saying "kittykittykittykittykitty" the most hilarious part of that movie. LOL

@@nathanlewis5682 Pizza Hut better
wait, you and your gf's parents do acid together?
That's crazy I have a story JUST LIKE THAT. In 2007 i was doing mushrooms with my girlfriend at the time watching SpongeBob and it was making us geek hard. She worked at Pizza hut right behind their house and brought some over for dinner. My brother came in and noticed and he started popping his head up from under the bed messing with us. Then my parents made us come down to eat pizza with them. My mom and step dad both work for the police department. My stepdad was swat then a homicide detective. We couldn't stop laughing at my step dad cause he looks like Sam Neill from Jurassic Park and he kept making jokes thinking we were laughing at that. Just brought me back to that.
Why is it so cute when Jay says "bye, baby kitties"?

This 3 minutes is some of the greatest writing in comedy. This scene is just perfect. The metal, the pop culture, the fast and wity dialogue, and the way J holds SB like his girlfriend as they walk away. Perfect.
That ball tap at the end brought me back to the 90s real quick lol
Malrats problem when it was released was it feels more like a movie done by an ensemble group that's been together for years and dozens of movies. But they weren't. This was Jason Lee's first movie with the bunch and a lot of people's first time with KS too. If this had come out after Chasing Amy, it would have gotten the praise it deserves. Watching it today as a cult classic, it rocks.
Jason Lee is such a great character. A few knows that he's also been a professional skater.
+Dreijer Yeahh the dude is amazing, I met him once and I told him I'll shake his left hand instead
(Can't appreciate that unless you've seen the movie)
There’s certainly a familiarity amongst the characters that would indicate a well-wrought prior history to the events within the film. I don’t think that was Mallrats’s issue, since plenty of films and works of fiction begin ‘en media res’ with a fully formed backstory that the audience is familiarized with over its course.
Mallrats was derided mainly because the writing and acting was fairly bland across the board, with too much limp, juvenile comedy to lend it any credibility. It was like a lame caricature of the same subculture that Clerks captured with far more authenticity and comic ingenuity. Had Kevin Smith fleshed out the script a bit more, the final product could’ve been more impressive. That said, outside of the distinct sensibilities of Kevin Smiths filmmaking, its little more than just a teen/young adult hijinks feature for the ‘90s. Any given episode of Beavis and Butthead had far more comic value and social commentary than Mallrats.
That said, I still like the film. It’s an effective counterpoint to other contemporaneous films of its kind, such as Clueless.
"a foolish carpenter"...bless Smith for that dialogue.
Funniest line of this whole scene.

how did people not like this movie when it came out i think out of all the smith films this was the funniest
It was the 90s so to the people it was like "what's so special about this? Me and my friends do this all the time"
Now ppl like me born in the 90s look at this and wish we could've did the things they did, I mean who hangs at the mall nowadays? There's nothing to do unless you plan on spending money
we all shouldn't have to have things watered down censored etc. on either side because it's not pc or it’s kinda pc just because some things in these films are dated don’t make them not enjoyable other wise. kevin smith has a daughter and calling him these things isn't right. wither it's a movie video game music etc.
James Machuga you're full of shit! Clerks is a good written funny movie, this isn't. Kevin smith loves to make movies to entertain bullies like you just like Adam Sandler likes to make movies targeted towards unintelligent simpleton morons. The only good movies in the view Askewniverse movies clerks and Chasing Amy but I haven't seen dogma and I haven't seen Ghostbusters 2017.
i'm not a bully i just don't like people who blindly like a movie or hate a movie without giving a chance or nitpicking one thing and what’s wrong with like some goofy or dumb or shut your brain off movies not everything has to be thought provoking etc. if that were the case we would have tons of fast and the furious movies.
James Machuga if your assuming that I'm easily offended or sensitive by the crude and sexual content in this film and the filthy language in this movie I'm not,I enjoy it just as much as other people like you film. I just don't like the ending message of this film.
I love how Brodie just immediately gets into the joke in 1:20
I never noticed. Good call.
If this were filmed today they would just be standing there staring at their smart phones.

Kevin Smith said he based the character Jay on how Jason used to act before he went to film school in Canada. After Clerks, he simply over exaggerated Jay's character.
he made it better right??

but is it a bad thing, or a good thing?
Jason Mewes have said many times that the character Jay IS him when he was young. It's pretty much not acting at all on his part. He just did his thing.
Ohh Jason is so insanely gifted! Brilliant didactic-ironic movie, amazing actors.
