I have 1 pre-ordered and the only reason why I chose the EV6 over the Mach E or any other EV is the claimed 18 minute charge. I haven't found any other EV in that price range (except for Ionic 5) that can charge as fast.
The Mercedes and this car are in 2 different worlds. However, I would argue that, marketwise, this duo from KIA/Hyundai are more important cars since they are the first mass market vehicles that are "better" than a Tesla at this price point.
I don't see how in the world this is at all competitive with a Tesla Model Y - or even a Model 3 if the form factor is close enough for that customer. This Ki looks pretty functional but archaic in design. If it was $40k-ish then I could see an argument for it, that would make it a decent choice vs Y/3, but not at $60k. Doubly so when considering that, FSD aside, Teslas come fully loaded out of the box, while this one's price starts at the bare-bones, and it would take much more to begin matching the Tesla alternative on features. Maybe the $7.5k federal rebate will help bridge some of that gap from its $60k price tag, but not enough.

Dan, I have a model three and a EV six. It's amazing how quickly the Hyundai/Kia group evolved in the BEV segment. They got some of the most efficient BEVs on the market with plenty of Tech features.
FALSE, nice try. KIA/Hyundai is still a COMPLIANCE car, it's using GIMP platform, that was design for GAS, Hybrid, and FC cars, as such it's too HEAVY, too slow, very INEFFICIENT. they like every legacy OEM , needs a LEAN design & skateboard platform that is ICE/hybrid free in design.
Sandy I appreciate your focus on ease of entry into specific doors. I drove a BMW X3 the other day and it seemed like the door was specifically designed to be too small and basically off-center, too far forward. It felt as though I needed to do a Houdini entry. Surprised how expensive these are in the US - this car is the same or cheaper than an ID.4 here in Ireland. Much better fit and finish than an ID.4 too.
Darn, what I hoped was headlight beam height adjust buttons. Turned out to be screen brightness adjustment, next to the charging door open/close button.
I dig the front, not much so the back end. Kind of a high shoulder side line. For some reasons it reminds me of the VW id.3 despite not looking like it.

Great rear doors. Has a large hatch opening but with the slanted rear window the cargo space is kinda small for a taxi. However, smallish cars are used for taxis nowadays and some have similar space.
I don't understand the comments about it being a nice transition vehicle from ICE cars because of the buttons and what not. What do buttons and dials have to do with the drive train? Buttons and dials are there because they are MASSIVELY easier to use when driving and way less distracting. As an owner of a tesla, my biggest complaint is having to take my eyes off the road so often to do simply thing which every other car has a knob for. A giant ipad looks nice, but unless we have 100% self driving, it is just plain old dangerous.
I agree. Just because it has buttons doesn't automatically mean they're bad. Some things SHOULD be controlled by buttons, knobs and dials. That's just smart design.
I'm shocked that the cars coming out have so little storage in them after getting rid of a huge engine in the front and floor boards full of batteries. If Tesla can do it, then other car companies can do it as well. Car companies seem stuck with old designs. i see other people made comment about a rear wiper missing. i totally agree it should have one no matter how much of a slope it has.
I did not have a rear wiper on my Saab 9-5 Sedan, and i never felt i missed to have one, It seems that it is mostly americans driving station wagons that seem to say every car needs a rear wiper.
@@wrohr15309 No car is perfect, and there are larger cars that provide more storage. I think there are two different engineering schools of thought. Tesla, for good reason, tries to optimize packaging as much as possible and as a consequence the gave the space back to the users in a form of a trunk. The downside is reduced serviceability, for example how difficult is to replace a simple cabin filter in a Tesla? Kia on the flip side is more focused on serviceability where each component is relatively easily accessible. Some might be wondering why there is so little space under the frunk? Because EV6 has a clutch in AWD models that only engages the front motor when is needed. That takes some space and optimizes efficiency, because an electric motor can create drag if not in use. Kia also maximized the interior usable space by increasing the wheel base. In Europe the RWD models have a deeper frunk performancedrive.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/2022-Kia-EV6-front-boot-1536x1024.jpeg This article describes the Hyundai/KIA EV-dedicated E-GMP architecture. www.sae.org/news/2020/12/hyundai-e-gmp-reveal#:~:text=The%20E-GMP%20architecture%20includes%20a%20technology%20that%20is,lighter%20and%20higher-speed%20traction%20motors%20can%20be%20used.?msclkid=daedc4dbd06b11ecabaa3d4dbde7004f
Also note that the Model Y is longer than the Kia, on a shorter wheelbase, which leads to long front and rear overhangs. That is where the Tesla's large frunk and rear underfloor storage space comes from. The EV6 has the sort of ultra short overhangs that are only possible on a dedicated BEV platform. Combine that with a low, sloping hood, and you are left with little space for a deep frunk. Of course, having batteries under the floor generally forces a high beltline and roof, which is why most EVs are crossovers. Kia maximised passenger space within a distinctive, low-roof, short-overhang, (I think far better looking than Tesla) BEV only body, at the cost of some storage space. But it is no less practical than similarly sized ICE vehicles. I also think the obsession with having a big frunk is more about novelty than practicality. Not that a frunk isn't useful, it just isn't important enough to justify the attention it is given.
Sir, I keep seeing the Skywell (Imperium) Infront of every vehicle you review. I'm really interested about it. Can you give me your opinion about it please
It almost like the ten years (+) we've spent listening to everything from "Tesla / Toyota" to "Tesla / Ferrari (etc)" comparisons, depending on the irrelevant metric that day? Get used to it.
The problem with "low-end" EVs at this stage is that battery is still a significant part of the overall BOM cost... especially compared to an empty gas tank of an ICE vehicle... So there is a limit on how low the vehicle can sell for and still be viable/practical... That's why it still makes sense for EVs to stay in the middle of the pack until battery costs come down before moving into the economy car segment. There are a lot of inherent advantages to EVs (performance, comfort, etc.) that will justify the higher costs, so consumers that are financially-able will be willing to spend and find value there.
Evs are in very beginning in terms of packaging , modularisation, customizing . There is s very long way to go. Customer demands can change rapidly which makes a big risk for OEM s who will make long term investments
@@ayhankasm1813 Except I bought my Model S 10 years ago, so it's early, but not really the very beginning. ICE manufacturers can just copy Tesla's first-gen packaging and be pretty competitive today. We still don't even see this rudimentary level of competence from many ICE manufacturers today.
@@ken830 Apparently Frunks are something that few Tesla owners regularly use; it is interesting that a lot of manufacturers are just making the front hood area more compact and not really bothering with one. Kia/Hyundai just give you a little cubby to store the L1 charger cord, and Mercedes puts giant HEPA filters under the hood.
@@stephenj4937 I can't speak for all, but I use mine frequently. In my Model 3, I mostly use it for my work laptop if I know I will be stopping somewhere on the way home and don't want to leave valuables exposed. Or if I am getting take-out and don't want to get the inside-of the car all smelly. And of course the Tesla-included Mobile Connector lives there though I've never used it before. In my Model S, the Frunk permanently holds 3 strollers with room to spare for a small bag. Wish it were powered open/close. I can understand shrinking the hood area for more passenger space, but it really should be maintained for safety (large crumple zone). My local Kia dealer - Chesterfield UK - is targeting Tesla owners and have done well with the strategy. Or so they tell me when I enquired about the Soul EV.
I don’t understand why Kia hasn’t been able to factor in a front or rear storage compartment. Ever since riding in the updated Y and seeing the extreme level of storage it offers, everything else seems inadequate. $60,000 for this car with one foot in the past is pushing the limits of sanity
The Frunk in my opinion isn't a deal-breaker. However, it is a sign, of the level of the automaker's confidence in Electric Cars. The Tiny Funk that Sandy missed, or no Funks, just means, the Company figures if the EV Brand fails, they can retool to a gas engine. Great improvement for Korean brands! but they still are attached to ICE platform mentallity, time to go to skate board platform... Same for Japanese brands!
so here in Canada you can by this Kia EV6 AWD LR GT line with Pkg 2 for $62,000.00 CAD and you can immediately get $8,000.00 off at the dealer with the Provincial and federal Rebates, Tesla Mode Y AWD long range is a mighty expensive $82,900.00 and has no rebates, has about the same range and about the same acceleration and a lot rougher ride and noisy cabin, so I think the Koreans have done a very fine job, especially with the 800Volt Traction battery and Vehicle to Load offering on every model. Most legacy EVs are trash! Chinese vehicles are better since they try to learn from Tesla so you get better cars for better value compared to purposely trash built legacy who don't want their EVs better than their ice counterparts.
I'm leery of any manufacturer affiliated with LG Chem for their battery packs. Hyundai/KIA was also burned (pun intended) like GM, by the LG battery packs. QC is a factor when a LG Chem battery pack present.
Well, in Sweden the KIA Niro (hybrid) and E-Niro (BEV) have become super popular with both Taxi companies and private consumers for the last 3-5 years. The electric offerings from the Volvos and the other legacy OEMs don't stand a chance right know. And for the last couple of months I've started to see a lot of EV6 models in the streets. The Mercedes and this car are in 2 different worlds. However, I would argue that, marketwise, this duo from KIA/Hyundai are more important cars since they are the first mass market vehicles that are "better" than a Tesla at this price point.
In which ways would you say they are better? I wasn't able to see any way from this video.

All in all, I think the EV six rides a little smoother and quieter than my model 3 (2019 model) but the tech side of the Tesla along with the super charging net work, in my opinion makes the Tesla a better option.
@@skyfox77 Ouch

What an immense waste of time listening to Mercedes comparisons.
@@stephenj4937 I can't speak for all, but I use mine frequently. In my Model 3, I mostly use it for my work laptop if I know I will be stopping somewhere on the way home and don't want to leave valuables exposed.
