Bolvar was very mutch weaken as Lich King than Arthas in lore so vs Sylvanas without Frostmourne aligned to the crown the Lich King was almost a status to lead undead this is in wow.
Anti hero, Arthas?, Yes, I agree most of what he done is wrong, maybe he is an anti hero, THAT I LOVE. I respect him as a Lich King more than all. I grew up with him as a story, and Blizzard used to be Blizzard, I mean the way the 1st videos were back in the day.... Overwatch videos are also great and inspiring but the game..............................
Fun fact, the blood smeared by the crown from Arthas' "succession" was still there some 15 years later in the former capital of Lordaeron in WoW, and you could hear the ghosts of the people there playing that scene over and over.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames As long as it means that I can enjoy more reactions from you, I gladly put some time and work in :) And yeah, that list is loooong. No need to watch all of it, just wanted to put it all in a chronological order, so that you don't get lost... nerd out!
13:04 Translation: " Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world. From this seal shall arise the doom of men who in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own. Blindly they built their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit. Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control. Let the echoes of doom resound across the wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair. "
Aye, how I despise these videos that don't have enough sense to include the subtitles. Also, I personally greatly prefer the original first cinematic. It's frankly better at audio, angles and timing, even if the graphics are naturally worse. Also, reforged is the worst game/remaster in history, which the metacritic user score reflects. It was so bad that it destroyed the original game.
@@Nyarlathotep_Flagg the original cinematics were honestly just better, there is no alternatives. The Grom V Mannoroth fight, the Illidan V Arthas fight. they just don't compare.
Arthas and Illidan. The original badass characters of WoW. And, especially for Arthas, an actual character arc. Remember when we got good writing. How the mighty have fallen...
Great times, when you had to play the game to understand videos, shortcuts and novels, instead of reading novels and watching shortcuts to understand the game.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames - Good thing to point out - it's a great piece of story in a rather old strategy game. Beats most things, but don't compare it to like a long series or oscar winning movie. However it is by far the most asked for movie adaptation in the warcraft fandom. I love movies, however. I would rather see the game expand it's storytelling and refine it again, back to it's deep roleplaying world building, while keeping the complexities of the modern lore. But right now it's as if the lore team goes insane on the deep cosmology while the writing team are a bunch of 13 year old edgy girls.
@@Cainite They remade the first cinematic (for the sake of the announcement trailer) and added the Illidan Vs Arthas fight, though that one was outsourced and doesn't share the same flair as the other cinematics.
The cutscenes might seem confusing if you never played the campaigns (Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne) because a lot of the story is also told through in-game cutscenes and just in-game
the scene with the demon and the dust, especially without context, undersells that that city was basically the largest gathering of power, knowledge and resistance to the legion left on that continent (which due to the way azeroth's landmass is distributed means the hemisphere), and archimonde, once summoned, literally wiped it off the map like a sandcastle.
Guy with Horns, Blindfold and Wings is Illidan Illidan originaly a Night Elf was a gifted mage, Night Elfs drew their power from a mystic well known as the Well of Eternety which made them very potent Arcane (Magic) users and one could say they even abused the Arcane so much that it caught the attention of the Burning Legion a demonic force that seeks to exterminate all life (for a spoilery reason). The Leader of the Burning Legion who is called Sergaras contacts the then Queen of the Night Elfs Azshara and offers her power beyond imagination in return to open a portal so the Legion can enter Azeroth (World) she agrees but some people realize the threat and a war breaks out between the 2 factions this war is later known as the War of the Ancients. In this war Illidan unknown to anyone plays as a double agent, the faction that opposed the summoning of demons think that Illidan betrayed them for power, having gained the trust of the demons Sergaras grants him demonic power which Illidan uses against the demons but in the process becomes a demon as well. The War ends in the first Cataclysmic event known as the Sundering when the mystic well implodes and shatters the then Mega Continent in to several smaller continents. The Night Elfs finaly see the folly of their ways and vow to never use Arcane magic again. But Illidan creates a new Well of Eternety and for this crime and his betrayal in the war he is imprisoned for 10 000 years Later when Arthas manages to summon the Demon overlord Archimonde (big demon that played with the sand) the demons send forces to kill the Night Elfs a priestess and leader of the Night elfs releases Illidan as his Demon Hunting capabilities are boon in the war. Illidan manages to stop the attacking demons but in the process gains even more demonic powers and for this he is exiled and hated by his brother. Illidan pretends to join the Legion again and they sent him to destroy the Lich King as he has outlived his usefullness and has also betrayed the Legion, Illidan prepares a massive spell that will shatter the Northrend and destroy the Lich King but Arthas comes and stops the spell and both of them battle Arthas is victorius Illidan survives heavily wounded retreats to another world were he fortifies his position and prepeares to face the wrath of his demon overlords for his failure but also prepares to destroy the Legion Illidan is later killed by us the players and his body is taken to a special prison by the Night Elfs so he cant be revived (Demons have a nack for always coming back and Iliidan is a demon) tl:dr Illidan is a gray-ish character prepared to do anything even if thats evil to stop the Legion as only he and his followers realize how much of a threat the Legion actually are
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Well the writers call him an anti-hero a person who has a just cause but uses unjust means to achieve it but by the end of his story he ends up doing something very heroic If you end up watching all of the WoW cinematics you will learn the rest of his story
small correction, when Illidan was preparing a spell to destroy Icecrow Glacier it wasn't Arthas that stopped him but the combined forces of Night-elves led by Malfurion (Illidan's twin brother) and Maiev Shadowsong (Illidan's jailer for 10.000 years) and the blood elves lead by Prince Kael'thas (later subordinate to Illidan and a great character that writers wasted among others)
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I am so sorry but please don't listen to him, Illidan ( the winged dude with the horns) is one of the most complex and well designed characters of all time, so if u are interested please look up the actual lore for him in lore videos, because 30% of the the things that dear @Weelah said are wrong and not accurate. For example Illidan was never killed, he was just imprisoned in Vault of Wardens. or Night Elves didn't draw Burning Legion.
To explain the Lich King situation with enough details to have it make sense but not so much that you end up being more confused than you started out: So in the very first trailer you saw the big rock creature drop from the sky, those are the Legion (demons) that have come to take over Azeroth (the name of the world). All races unite to fight against the Legion. In Arthas' kingdom (Lordaeron), there's a strange plague (that got mentioned in the raven in the court cinematic) that's killing the people that they do not know where it comes from or how exactly it affects people. Arthas discovers the origin of it to a specific city and issues an order to purge said city by killing everyone in it; his mentor and his lover walk away from him in when he makes said decision. A demon in the city tells Arthas that if he wants to take vengeance for his people, he needs to find him in a specific area and kill him. On his journey there Arthas slowly loses his allies and his people's respect as he gets more and more obsessed with the idea of vengeance, at which point he finds the sword that contains part of the soul of the previous Lich King who corrupts him and makes him kill his father and mentor plus eradicate the entire kingdom so he can raise his army of undead. When he takes the crown and puts it on his head, the transformation into the Lich King becomes complete. You can hear all of his loved ones/friends berate him as he climb up to the throne. Now keep in mind that it's been over a decade since I played the game, so some of the things might be slightly out of order, but overall that's the plot. I hope that it wasn't too confusing.
Was a pretty good summary. Going any further into detail would take hours. Some videos exist that summarize pre-wow lore, and they usually last about an hour (with very fast narration).
Here is a brief explanation of these cutscenes from me to make them better understood: 1:47 - Basic intro of the game that appeared at the time of game launch. 3:59 - Introduction to the tutorial campaign, the visible orc is called Thrall and he is the leader of the horde, at the end of that minicampain, he learns that he should take his people on the west, to the land of Kalimdor. 6:50 - Beginning of the Alliance campaign, where we leading Prince Arthas, we fight the plague that one of the ambassadors talks about and which ends with his transformation into the Death Knight, the most important commander of the Lich King. 10:23 - End of the Alliance campaign, return of the victorious Prince, therefore everyone cheers without knowing about his transformation. 12:56 - The next cutscene is the end of the undead campaign, the plague as it was called in the game. Here we have the further fate of Arthas after the transformation, we learn here that the plague was sent by the burning legion (demons) who want to conquer the world of Azeroth, the visible figure is one of the legion leader (Archimonde) summoned at the end of the campaign, he destroying the wizard city Dallaran. 14:58 - End of the Horde campaign, during it we accompany Thrall while exploring the land of Kalimdor, at some point the action splits into 2 threads, the orc shown here next to Thrall, Grom Hellscream initially succumbs to the corruption that long ago on the orcs were sent by demons from the burning legion (which is why Grom has red eyes). The rest of the story is about saving Grom and healing him, the cutscene is a confrontation with the minor legion commander who was responsible for Grom's "disease". 18:41 - End of the Night Elf campaign, the legion's invasion of Kalimdor is in full swing, the elves for whom the Alliance and the Horde were intruders at the beginning, finally join forces to defeat the legion together. Here we see the leader of the legion, the same as in the excerpt from 12:56, trying to destroy the world tree, if he succeeded, Azerot would face doom, the character that appears in the foreground is the druid Malfurion Stormrage, the most important elven druid who uses the artifact we had to get in during the campaign to summon the ancestral spirits that defeat Archimonde. 21:24 - Intro to the expansion, visible guy is Illidan Stormrage, Malfurion's brother, we get to know a piece of his story in the night elf campaign. His mission, however, is recognized by his brother and Tyrnade the leader of the elves as crimes against nature and he is banished, here we have the continuation of his story, how he tried to gain more power, I do not reveal why . 24:25 - End of the plague campaign, at the end of the expansion we return to Arthas who must come to the frost throne where the Lich King rests, because he is threatened by Illidan. 26:51 - Epilogue of the expansion and the whole game, reconciliation of the Death Knight and the Lich King. Arthas will be sitting on this throne until the World of Warcraft expansion pack, the intro of which you have already seen.
This was epic back in the day and showed the amazing talent the animators at Blizz had to offer. And they still provide to this day. And with Warcraft 3 and Arthas it all started. The legacy of Wow. A legacy those greedy pigs at activision tarnished. To quote Uther to Arthas when he came for his father’s urn: “to piss on it?”. Its what does greed goblins did. But we remain with the memories of what was good and beautiful, that marked our lives more than any other game.
In retrospect, Arthas was really lucky managing to find a helmet that fit his transmog (in-game option to change the appearance of your armor) so well ;)
I know its old but I can recommend everyone to read the books about the first crusade when the elven realm got destroyed (which ultimately caused the split of the elven races) and the tragic story about Illidan.
I think the frozen throne ending cinematic so sad since you know who Arthas was and seeing him "lost" like that is like losing a honorable hero to darkness, which in fact is.
So happy y’all are going back and starting from the beginning. You will take away SO much more this way, though some pieces will still be a bit missed. I’ll toss an edit here once I finish the video and add info on a few gaps that aren’t shown in he cutscenes or trailers so it all makes sense later on.
Thanks! We have a comprehensive list for WoW someone shared. Might go on to that and then come back to this one as we definitely need the full Arthas story 😃
There's a lot to unpack in the Warcraft universe but damn is it worthwhile. For a little more context on these: The first video isn't really story relevant. It is essentially a trailer for the game. The second is a dream that the prophet known as Medivh granted to Thrall, to tell him to bring the Horde across the sea to Kalimdor and escape the coming of the Burning Legion. Next is Medivh attempting to warn Lordaeron of the same, however King Terenas would not listen. Medivh is partially responsible for the opening of the dark portal which brought the orcs and demons to Azeroth previously. This is the reason for his statement "I failed humanity once before." He would eventually convince a young mage by the name of Jaina Proudmoore to sail to Kalimdor with a group under her command however, securing thier future. Next is Arthas returning to Lordaeron from Northrend where he chased and eventually defeated the demon Mal'Ganis. He took up the cursed blade Frostmourne to achieve this however, and has been losing parts of his soul and sanity ever since. He is not yet the Lich King, but he murders is father Terenas to make Lordaeron part of his new undead empire. Next up is Archimonde, current leader of the Burning Legion, using his power to destroy Dalaran, the City of Mages. Arthas, who at this time was under command of the demon lords, helped sack the city of Dalaran and bring down it's magical barriers so that Archimonde could achieve this. Next is one of my personal favorite cinematic cutscenes of all time. Seeking power, Grommash Hellscream and his clan drank the blood of a nasty Pit Lord by the name of Mannoroth. They gained great power, but fell to Mannoroth's control. Thrall teamed up with Jaina Proudmoore to capture Grom, and use a spell to temporarily break him of Mannoroth's control. Thrall and Grom then face Mannoroth alone. Though he is defeated, Grom does not survive the ensuing hellfire. He becomes a martyr who freed the orcs from the power of the demon blood. The next scene is Archimonde attempting to destroy the World Tree. The source of the Night Elves power. The orcs under Thrall, humans under Jaina, and Night Elves under Tyrande Whisperwind all band together, and set a trap to defeat him. The Night Elves had to sacrifice their immortality to do so. Thus the legion is thwarted. Now we have Illidan Stormrage. Illidan was released from his ten thousand year imprisonment by Tyrande as she believed his experience and knowledge of the demons would make him a powerful ally. After Archimonde is defeated, Illidan still knows of the threat of the Lich King. Illidan summons the Naga from the depths, as they have knowledge of powerful magic that can destroy Northrend and the Lich King with it. The Lich King, through Frostmourne, commands Arthas to return to Northrend and become one with him. The Naga spell proves to be too powerful however, and threatened to destroy all of Azeroth. So Illidan is stopped by his brother Malfurion, and his former jailor Maev. Illidan does not give up. He personally journeys to Northrend to stop the Lich King from becoming whole. He is narrowly defeated by Arthas. Arthas ascends the throne and dons the Helm of Domination. Becoming the Lich King.
Thanks for breaking all that down for us. Helps us understand this all a bit better even though we will definitely have to a deeper dive into the in game cutscenes and Cinematics 😊
Guy in cloak turning in to raven is Medivh He was a human, one of the most powerful mages in world , a Guardian(a special mage tasked with protecting the world from the Legion) but corrupted by the leader of the Burnig Legion Sergaras The Orcs (green guys) and their home world were already conqured by the Legion and made their puppets the Legion decided to use the Orcs as means to soften up Azeroth and prepare it for their arraival. They did this by making having Sergaras mind control Medivh and open a portal to the home world of the orcs and bring them over to Azeroth. When that was done the orcs swept through the human lands while this was happening Medivhs friends realized what had happened and killed him in a moment of sanity as Medivh was holding back Sergaras from controlling him. This is the failure he was talking about with the King and mistake he wanted to fix The Orcs were eventually defeated and put in to Holocaust like camps while the humans were deciding what to do with them. Separated from the demons the Orcs eventually calmed down and regained their senses you see the orcs were corrupted by the demon blood and were Blood Crazed making them extreme bloodthursty warmongers. Eventually the orcs group up and break out of these camps and under leadership of Thrall (orc that had a dream with Medivh) travel to the lands of the Night Elfs. Thrall and Grom Hellscream fight the demon who corrupted them killing him and lifting the corruption and the Blood Craze with it but at the cost of Groms life as we saw in one the cinematics
Okay, I’m going to avoid a massive Lore dump but just add “explain to me like I’m 5” pieces of information that is very important to understand later cinematics and help clarify both your Favorite character so far that you’ve seen. Here we go: - There is a Titan Pantheon essentially godhood level in WoW and one of them - Sargeras the Destroyer goes bad. He recruits Demons and founds what is known as the Burning Legion. His goal is the eradication of Azeroth (WoWs World). - The Burning Legion has two major leaders under Sargeras - Kil’jaeden and Archimonde two Demon Lords. Kil’jaeden is responsible for corrupting the Orcs and Horde via two main Orcs - Guldan and Ner’zhul both VERY powerful magic users. The Live Action Warcraft movie released a few years back plot starts here with Guldans story. - Ner’zhul battles back against Kil’jaeden and Kil’jaeden rips his soul from his body and tortures him eventually offering him a choice. Eternal torture or to become The Lich King and lead the Scourge (undead) which he took the latter and was bound to the Armor you saw Arthas pickup in this video. The voice is Ner’zhul taking over Arthas’s body. Thereafter Arthas is no more, and the host is now Ner’zhul in Arthas physical body. - Now a big missing piece not in cinematics is that happened in Warcraft 3 is Sylvanas fights Arthas when she was human. She losses and Arthas resurrects her as an Undead Banshee to serve him. When Illidan attacked the Frozen Throne in the last cinematic you watched Arthas power dwindles and he loses control of Sylvanas and the scourge which becomes known as the Forsaken. Sylvanas deceives Arthas and and shoots him with a poison arrow (before he gets the helm from the ice) that nearly kills him. He tells Sylvanas to do it and end him, but she chooses to want him to suffer like he has made her suffer. A terrible mistake as he escapes to become the Lich King. - the above is very important because Arthas and the Lich King ONLY fear Sylvanas as they know she is powerful and has a means to kill him. You will see this in future trailers and cinematics that the Lich King generally fears her, and they fight multiple times throughout history of the last 15 years of WoW. - Archimonde the other Demon Lord was the one from the cinematics you saw who was crushing the city of Dalaran ( The Wizards Home City) with demonic magic. He goes to the World Tree to destroy it again to try to end life in Azeroth per Sargeras orders. He is killed by wisps defending life in Azeroth. Kil’jaeden is still alive and leading the burning legion since. - Lastly the Orc with the hammer that smashed the ground and lit up like a lightbulb is Thrall…the Warchief of the Horde, and one of the most important members of WoW you will see him LOADS going forward. He has fought in all three Wars, and is incredibly loved by anyone who chooses Horde as their faction. The hammer he smashed is known as Doomhammer. That about covers the major gaps that you will need to know going into WoW cinematics and cutscenes. Any questions just let me know.
Actually, isn't the lore that Ner'zhul was destroyed during the fight over Arthas's body, and the Lich King persona was essentially a bastardized mixture of Ner'zhul, Arthas (living) and Arthas (death knight)? I thought that was essentially the conclusion of the Arthas novel that detailed that ordeal pre WotLK.
The movie alters a lot of lore so it really shouldn't be mentioned as something to look at for lore. Also Sylvannas is not a human but a high elf, one of the Windrunner sisters and Ranger General of Silvermoon until her death and subsequently being turned into a banshee.
Also the guy with the snakes, the night elf Illidan, is legitimately misunderstood all the time :D. He made a deal with a demon to hunt down other demons (the demon burned out his eyes but gave him the ability to see magic), and later on hit took another demon artifact that gave him the more of a demon look. For that he was banished by the night elves, so he razed the sea monsters, the Naga race, in order to try and stop/kill Arthas and destroy the Lich King.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Well they did make him look that, so your judgment was natural. His own brother was the one who banished him in the first place.
You've so got to react to World of Warcraft: Legion cinematics to see how Illidan Stormrage is! :D Also the lizardy swimming creatures are Naga former Night Elves whose city sank beneath the seas at the Sundering along with their queen Azshara. :)
If you play World of Warcraft, you can travel to Lordearon (the city fell after Arthas betrayal) and go to that throne room. The room is aged by time, and more or less abandoned (someone live in the "basement"), but you can hear the kings voice as a ghostly whisper in there. And the blind dude, Illidan, is not pure evil ;) Few times have I felt such loyalty as when I created a demon hunter in WoW and swore allegiance to Illidan :3
Hey ! Just discovered your channel through these reactions and I love it ! I'll clearly wont miss the next ones :) Just a little bit of context for Arthas / The lich king on these videos : On the first cinematic we see Medivh (the crow guy) reaching out to Thrall (Yes orc, Ogres are rly different on azeroth !) and telling him to rally the horde and to sail West, to Kalimdor. The same Medivh then reach out to King Terenas (Arthas's father) and interput a meeting that was there because there was a lot of threats on the Lordaeron kingdom and tell them to sail west too (but that's not usefull for Arthas's story). The main threat was the Orcs at the time, attacking the kingdom and creating an army, but at the same time we hear them talking about quarantine and a scourge. This scourge was created by the Lich King himself to find his champion and be released. Arthas was the one who led the investigation and realized that this "scourge" was in fact turning living people to undead people under the control of a dreadlord named "Mal'Ganis" After this discover, Arthas just started to go mad and was ready to do absolutely anything to save his people and his kingdom. He then discovered that the major city "Stratholme" just started to get infected and decided to do the unthinkable. Since he didn't have a cure at all, to avoid his people to turn into undead, he decided to "purge" the city and he killed every single citizen that we could find. (A lot of people in the community thinks he didn't rly made a bad choice, but the truth is that every choices he had were the bad ones anyway) After that, he went face to face with Mal'Ganis who fled and told him to join him in Northrend (north continent) if he wanted to have revenge. Arthas didn't think twice and went after him. There, he found his former trainer, a dwarf named "Muradin" who helped him in his quest. Pretty quickly after he arrived in Northrend, an order from his father (King Terenas -the second if I remember correctly-) arrived to call back every troups in northrend in Lordaeron. Arthas was so obsessed with his need of revenge that he recruited mercenaries to help him burn down all of his ships so no one could go back. When his troups arrived to see that their ships were all burned down, Arthas publicly accused the mercenaries that it was their doing, the troups, full of anger killed every last one of them. With no other choice but to continue, they settled, and Arthas heard about a magic sword, Frostmourne, that could give him the power to kill Mal'ganis. Completely blinded by nothing else but his desire to eradicate Mal'Ganis from Azeroth, he searched for it and found it in an ancient cave, guarded by magic creatures (dunno what they are called sry) who, in fact, was not really guarding the sword but saving the ones who search for it from their damnation. In this cave, Arthas and Muradin found the sword, and despise the warning on the pedestal and Muradin being terrified, Arthas acepted to give everything he had even his soul -and this important- if he could have a chance to destroy Mal'Ganis. The bloc of ice where the sword were into exploded to release the sword and Muradin took a spike of Ice on the head and passed out. Arthas, sword in hand, left Muradin for dead and returned to camp. With the sword in hand Arthas found Mal'ganis and easily defeated him. His expedition finally over, but soulless. Arthas left his army and ran into the snow, nobody knows where. For a period of time he wandered, and went completely mad because of the wispering of Frostmourne in his head (actually the lich king, but he thought it was frostmourne at the time). He then returned to Lordaeron to kill his father and to spread the scourge he once swore to destroy on Azeroth. He then became pretty much king of this place until the Lich King gave him the order to come back asap in Northrend, where he was, because he was losing some power and because someone were after him. (Illidan) He returned, and found Illidan at the bottom of the IceCrown Citadel who was there to destroy the Lich King. They fought as you saw and then, Arthas finally reached the top of IceCrown and fused with him when he put the helm on his head. The whisper you hear when he's climbing the stairs is every major point of his journey where each decision made him closer to the lich king. From the purge of Stratholme and calling Uther -his mentor - a traitor because he didn't want to participate in this purge, to the treason of the mercenaries etc... This cinematic is prob my favourite of all Warcraft 3. I skipped the whole "returning to Northrend" because it is mostly linked to other character and I didn't talk about them. The whole first part is, on the other hand, only about Arthas and how he went from the Hero of the living to the Hero of the deads and the damnation of the living. I tried to be as short as possible with as much informations as possible ! But Arthas's story is so complete that it is hard to be short ! Hope you'll like the rest of Warcraft content and enjoy your journey and discover of this wonderfull world. I wish I could discover it all over again ! PS : Sorry if there's english mistake, I'm still learning, and I didn't rly write in english in a long time !
Whoa! Thanks so much for that and welcome! Also great job writing in your non native language 😯 We couldn’t do that well writing in another language. Also, welcome! 🥳🥳 Glad you found the channel and are enjoying the reactions. 😃🤗🥂
I loved these cinematics when I 1st saw them playing the game, and I still love them now. The only issue is so much of the story is told during the gameplay so you miss so much just watching the cinematics like this that it simply doesn't do the story justice. Still a decent watch though, especially when you remember this game came out in 2002 and those cinematics were very well done for that time.
If you rewatch the "Warlords of Draenor" cinematic you'll see the shot for shot remake of around 17:15 of this video, except in it, the other orc dives in to save him. That orc was Garrosh Hellscream, who is the son of the orc you just watched die in the Warcraft 3 cinematics; the orc he saved in the WoD cinematic was *also* Grommash, from the alternate history. The demon was the same one. Basically that moment distills that whole character of Garrosh and his arc into a nutshell - going back in time to rewrite the history of the orcs, to redeem/save his father.
It's a very long time commitment (but shorter than playing the two games) but there's afew video's on TH-cam called Warcraft 3: The Movie, that includes all the in game dialog, and in game cinematics that explain the story in full. Also Warcraft 3 Reforged was the recent remaster of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos & Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.
These past couple of days I've been HOOKED on your World of Warcraft playlist. I'm technically on part 4 but I had to come back to watch this one! I've been playing WoW for 15 years so I've seen I'll say 95% of these trailers on the playlist but it's cool to see a few that I have missed, mainly from this video. Anyways it's a trip watching you two see these for the first time, I wish I could experience it again. I HIGHLY recommend you play the free trial of WoW though if you're truly a nerd like you say. If you ever need someone to walk you through it and play with I'd be happy to help! Anyways awesome videos, onto the next! 😅
Please realize, that all these cinematics are at least 20!!! years old! this was blizzard animation standard, pre 2000... especially the arthas one was an absolute milestone of the times.
You: "You never want your clothes to talk to you! It's never a good sign!" Me: "Yeah, it's even worse when there's the corrupted spirit of an orc shaman talking to you from inside a frozen helmet."
Another fun one for you guys to do on a long video is the Total War: Warhammer Cinematics. There is a 32 minute video that has all the trailers (since the 3rd and final game in the trilogy is coming soon). The series is centered around Real Time Strategy elements based on the Warhammer Tabletop games featuring lots of high fantasy elements.
Yeah we’ve been trying to squeeze it in because we know it’s coming up on the 14 of July maybe for the next game in series 🤔 not sure when we will actually get to it but it’s something we are definitely interested in
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames There's plenty of time. I'm sure they will do another trailer closer to release date and maybe trailers for the DLCs. No need to rush it, just wanted to make sure it gets on the list. I'll be patiently awaiting the upload so I can fully nerd out and explain the situation the trailers are referencing, but for now I'll leave it so you have a fresh reaction. :D
at 15:15 you will see how the warlords of draenor cinimatic was when grom dies but in WoD garrosh saves him, you guys should check out all the ingame cinematics for the legion expansion, it shows what happens to the guy with wings and horns
Archimonde the big demon overlord tha played in the sand Archimonde was summoned by Arthas in to Azeroth. First thing he did is makes a sand castle ressembling the city of Dalaran which is the city of great mages and reduced it to rubble after that he traveled to the lands of the Night Elfs to annihilate them as revenge for defying them the first time in the War of the Ancients. He wanted to do this he wanted to destroy the World Tree. This Tree was planted over the new Well of Eternety created by Illidan to hide its power from the eyes the Legion as well as strengthen the Night Elfs granting them immortality. It took the combined effort of the Night Elfs, Orcs led by Thrall and Human survivors of Lordaeron (survivors from Arthas's carnage) and still fail to stop Archimonde from reaching the World Tree so the Night Elfs in a last ditch effort sacrifice their immortality to protect the World Tree while thousands of Wisps (nature spirits) sacrifice themselves to destroy Archimonde
Fun fact - the Scourge had a had in that too. Evil Arthas tipped Illadin off to an artifact that if 'removed' from demon hands, would weaken the Legion's attack considerably. Because the Lich King had no intention of remaining under the Legion's thumb.
These are so good, especially after playing though each campaign and being rewarded with a cinematic. The in game graphics one is really rough though. It existed in the original release of the game but it looked far betetr with the 2003 graphics. This new one they added in close to the end is really just a half-assed version of that. I'm not sure why they went about it like that. I don't think anyone actually liked that new in game cinematic of the fight between Arthas and Illidan. The weight of that cinematic is meant to feel like a grand achievement since it is at the very end of the last Undead campaign, the longest campaign in the game where Arthas the Lich King becomes weaker and weaker for each mission you do, which makes the last mission feel very dire, but the reforged cinematic really just undersold that. Originally back in 2003 they wanted that to also be a proper cinematic like the others but they just didn't have time to make it. When the Reforged/remastered version of the game was announced everyone hoped they would make the cinematic for real like they wanted to do all those years ago, but Activision does as Activision have done. They rushed the game and therefore none of the promises about it were held. The 2003 version remains the superior game, but the story remains great, same with the proper cinematics.
Reforged was overall a complete failure that spawned nothing but criticism and issues. They honestly would of been better off just making a new game, instead of tainting an old one.
Yeah we’ve heard reforged missed the mark but wanted to see better graphics and just hoped they didn’t screw up the cinematics like Star Wars the Old Republic did with new narration on their 4K trailers that everyone hated 🙃
Does the criticism of reforged require that one play the game to understand it? I saw the entire WC3R movie on TH-cam (6 hours I think) and it just looked like the exact same game but with nicer graphics. It didn’t look at all like an inferior product, just not one with much in the way of improvements. I certainly didn’t care to pay full price for what I saw all over again. 10 dollars maybe.
@@yannym4605 The cinematics weren't the issue, it was the game itself that they ruined. They removed features like clans, automated tournaments, LAN and offline play, ranked ladder play, and corrupted custom campaigns (custom games and modes had to be manually ported/remade by the community). They didn't just make a remastered version of the game, they completely replaced the original one (so people have to play the remastered version). On top of that, they attempted to "rebalance" everything, which was a decent idea, it was just horribly executed. The game was also poorly optimized on launch, resulting in tons of crashes and lag. I still occasionally play WC3, but Reforged was certainly the gravestone of WC3. The player base dramatically shrunk below what it was in the original game months after release.
In the World of Warcraft game, when you stand in the throne room where Arthas killed his father (the king), if you listen closely you can hear the conversation leading up to the kill. You can also hear the bells toll and the crowds cheering in the rooms leading up to the throne room. Nice little touch that they added to the game.
Call me petty, but I hate that these are all branded with the failure that was "Warcraft 3: Reforged." These cinematics and game were made back in the mid 2000's by people who really cared about making proper games, and by a company that had value in their customers. Again, I know it's petty, but all this hard work was done over a decade ago and the appreciation of it is still felt by gamers, especially lately, since the original company, Blizzard, is now under major fire on multiple legal fronts. Anyways, really glad you guys enjoyed it. Arthas is still one of my favorite characters in the Blizzard universe lore, him and Jim Raynor.
We’d call it passion. Passion for the game. Passion for the lore. Passion for the characters. It’s like when Star Wars original trilogy was remastered and those weird ass scenes were put in. 🙃🤗
Arthas/the lich king is one of the best and most famous characters of warcraft. As his story is really tragic and filled with tragegy. It’s a story of a young prince who just want to save his people cuz he loves them. But eventually he becomes the thing he have fought against and tried to protect his people from. As he is the one who became the destruction of his people.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames cool! I recommend watching Nobbel87, if you want full detail of the story as he goes full on deep into it. As he is probably the most popular lore master of warcraft on youtube. If you want a shorter explained version I recommend hirumaredx's video :)
sitting here watching this with a glass of whisky my self, cheers to you! hope you watch some more of wow expansion cinematics also look into arthas story it's really sad but really good, played Warcraft for over 20 years now big fan.
Sooo much lore characters here. This video came like 25y ago...idk not sure. You guys looks like already know lot of stuff here. But anyway. in short : Warcraft universe start when Possessed Medive open the dark portal and summon orcs who are enslaved by legion. 6:26 Thrall - son of Durotan, first orc born on this world. he reformed horde into a honoured faction. He's kind of pure good character. Very heavy lore here. 8:04 King Terenace - Father of Arthas and High King of Alliance. 9:01 Ghost of Medive - Medive return as a spirit after he was killed and no longer possessed trying to save Humans. 12:05 Prince Arthas - Brainwashed (not mind control) by sword Frostmourne return to bring death soon his kingdom. ( We later found, he's brainwashed to be Agent of dead) too much lore here too. Lot to talk about. 13:16 Archimond - one of 2 acting leaders of Legion. He's there causing destruction on Dalaran city before he start invasion. 15:53 Thrall with his Legendary Doomhammer. 16:20 Monoroth - Demon pitlord of legion. Drinking his blood made orcs green and make them slave to legion. 16:53 Grommash Hellscreem - he's the first to drink demon blood. Father of Garrosh Hellscreem. He kills Monoroth and free orcs from curse. 19:03 Malfurion Stormrage - Archdruid, brother of Illidian. Husband to leader of nightelves. Most powerful druid ever. 19:38 Archimond trying to destroy world tree Nordassil. And Malfurion summon army of whisps to war. 21:59 Illidian Stormrage - Hero and Antihero do everything to save world from legion. Very heavy lore here. Lot to talk about. 23:23 Nagas, once nightelves caught in Tsunami accept old god offer to live in water. Answering Illidian's call to fight against Lichking. 25:19 Illidian Vs Arthas - Illidian and Kaelthas invade frozen throne but meet Arthas in mid way. Anything mortal touches by sword Frostmourne will get their soul stolen. Illidian survive cause he's part demon. 28:50 Arthas merge with Nerzul. Zoval's Helm and Sword called Domination gear. Helm corrupt the Soul of Nerzul and made him Lichking, Sword corrupt the Soul of Arthas. And this is where they merge into The Lichking you saw on wraith of Lichking.
the thing of warcraft is that for arthas to become the lich king, he first needed to try desesperatedly to save his people from a plague that will kill you or make you a zombie, when you find a city big enough to be infected, and the fact of if they turn, they will overrun the kingdom, see your mentor and the big bulk of your army leave you behind and then have to chase the demon responsible for the plague to the northpole, just to find a cursed blade that became the final nail in his corruption coffin... tells a little bit of why he's the villan, and the reassons of him killing his father: *YOU PLAY 2/3 OF WARCRAFT 3 AS ARTHAS*
Hi! If anywhere on your list there's World of Warcraft cinematic called Old Soldier I suggest to watch it together with other from same series in following order: 1. Old Soldier 2. Lost Honor 3. Safe Haven 4. Reckoning As alternative Blizzard has released them as single video called "Battle for Azeroth: Varok Saurfang’s Mak’gora "
Fun fact, if you go to the in-game location called Undercity, also known as Capital City where Arthas killed his father you can hear the cutscene from Warcraft 3.
Fun fact: in World of Warcraft, if you enter the throne room of Capitol City, the blood smear left by King Terenas' crown is still on the floor, and if you turn up the volume, in the background ambient music, you can hear the dialogue between Arthas and his father in that scene where he killed him.
Hey! If anyone is wondering about what the demon Archimonde says in the cinematic at 13:00 , here are the subtitles from Eredun (the language of his race )
The video ends with surprisingly beautiful music.. Arthas became the Lich king and sat on the ice throne .. And how beautifully Blizzard made the sequel .. The beginning of the cinema is The Wrath of the Lich King, the same music .. The Lich King awakens on the ice throne and begins a masterpiece that hardly anyone will ever surpass.. The 2008 trailer still remains one of the best and will compete with modern game trailers.. And he will always be at the top of genius, brutality and style.
😎🤟 one of the first WoW expansions we reacted to. Made us go back to this to get even a little bit more and we will have to cover the full story at some point th-cam.com/video/x4eE5npT0u0/w-d-xo.html
12:59 The demon here is Archimonde the Defiler, leader of the Legion's invasion in Warcraft 3. He is speaking Eredun, and the translation is: "Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world. From this seal shall arise the doom of men, who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own. Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit. Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control. Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
a little late to this but here is a quick break down: North part of the nation suffer from a plague that turns living people into undead ghouls. Young prince went up to investigate and eventually had to make decision to kill a whole city of the infected living people while they sleep before they turn. Burden by guilt, he pursue the culprit of the plague to the iceland and picked up cursed Frostmoune for more power, sacrificing more loyal friends and followers along the way. Frostmourne transfer whisper commands of Lich King in his head, so prince killed his father and damned the nation to the undead. It was Lich King's plan all along to corrupt and lure the prince to wear the helmet to become the next Lich King. Arthas's character arc from hopeful righteous paladin to the commander of the undead is one of the best story arcs.
Thanks! They were all frosty and made the drink even more delicious. Whiskey Warbringer is Blue Moon or Shock Top beer, a shot of bourbon and a shot of lemonade. Lightly stir it all together 😎🤟🍺
Btw, and interesting fact I've learned recently, tho I think it's still widely debated - when Arthas put on the Crown of the Lich King, that's when he truly died and became Undead.
In Warcraft tradition the snake dudes and horned guy (Illidan) are not actual bad guys either. The snake people were originally night elves (blue tall elves) whom were cursed to become fish people by the old god N'zoth whos kinda like a Cthulhu type creature. They now fight for Illidan whos also a night elf, but he has consumed massive amounts of demonic power which has made him grow horns and wings. He's very much a "fight fire with fire" type of character whos willing to sacrifice alot to ultimately save the world. Thats why he comes off as a bad guy.
Why do people consistently ignore that Illidan enslaved the denizens of Outland and killed anyone who tried to fight back. Illidan and his naga actively made life worst on Outland than it already was. That's why we ended up killing him in the Burning Crusade.
@@LuckySmurf Don't think we should get too hung up on the story of the expansion Blizzard themselves admitted to not giving a shit about the story in. All that was just written from the perspective of the Draenei to make sure we can kill Illidan as a boss, so it's more of an excuse for gameplay than anything. So sure I guess, but that clearly hasn't been blizzard intentions for the character in any of the stories they're actually written for him.
@@vergil8833 Blizzard's intentions have always been to make Illidan an extremist. But people have a habit of downplaying how far Illidan actually was willing to go to achieve his goals.
Hello to you guys ! Again an amazing reaction thanks to you two :D ! I thought maybe you could do a FF XIV cinematics reaction ? These cinematics are awesome and gorgeous ! Thanks again for the work :)
12:55 In case someone hasnt translated Archimonde's spell yet, he speaks in eredun: "Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world... From this seal shall arise the doom of men... who, in their arrogance sought to wield our fire as their own... Blindly they built their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit... Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control..." "Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
😈 that’s kinda bad ass not gonna lie. Know he’s like a demon wizard or something else equally as evil but those words were cool. Thanks for translating 😎🤟
10 Year old me got so enchanted by this game all these years ago... The feeling never left me. Not even after all the atrocities Blizzard has commited to the lore of this universe
if blizzard would have started with Arthas in the movies it would have been huge success epic movie , but they went with horde vs ally and became a epic fail
@@junito1957 they were trying to do the entire first war in one movie which in turn pretty much was a summary but then for whatever reason they started changing details if they had planned out a trilogy or animated series where everything wasn't so condensed it would have been a huge hit but yeah arthas on the big screen would have rivaled lotr
I’ve been watching your videos for a few days now and they are so entertaining! So today you’ve earned a new subscriber. But if you happen to do requests, I’d love “Friday the 13th the game all kills” reaction! Would be hilarious to see!
Welcome to the community 🥳🥳 Glad you’ve been enjoying the vids 😃 We love taking requests (but that creates a long list to get through 😂) but you’ll be happy to know that Friday the 13th kills are on that list 😁 People love watching us squirm apparently 😂🤗
The demon that Arthas fought just before ascending the frozen throne, is called Illidan. I don't much about the lore... But if I had to hazard a guess, I would say that he was trying to stop Arthas from becoming the Lich King. What say you?? Also... You guys should really watch Neltharion's cinematic after this one. I think you will enjoy finding out why they call him 'Deathwing'. And then the first Elden Ring cinematic trailer and the gameplay trailer. Or maybe just do the entire Souls Series either all at once or in separate videos, that would be awesome to see.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Nice... But you should do all the Dark Souls trailers along with it, to get a better understanding of the Series as a whole
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Indeed ! Forgot about that, haven't played for a while ahah ! But the lore is incredible and the story of Arthas is quite a tragic one if you played the game/seen all the content and in game cinematic, I recommend them
The one that worn the crown was actually start out good. He was a holy paladin that was the king son as you saw. He got caught in the war and slowly and got corrupted. That sword you see him wield actually had a sentience of its own and got him corrupted. The one that was in the ice had used that blade to corrupt him and at the end get him free. The other one with the horn was also a great warrior, but he started to use extreme method to try to take out his enemies which caused him to be impassioned. He managed to escape but was banished. He was actually wanting to do good, but use extreme methods to get his methods. So in the end battle, it was the two ideals that started off as good ended up fighting each other. Its more complicated than that but that was the arc of the two characters you see in the last few cinematics. The game has a lot of in game cinematics that bring in a lot of the missing pieces and the cinematics only show key moments.
Arthas wasn't totally a good dude at the start. He was quick to anger and even quicker to resort to violence, to the point that Uther had to remind him that vengeance wasn't a part of being a paladin. It wouldn't take much to turn him full heel.
If you wanna see more cinematics that envolves Arthas maybe you would like "Shadowlands Bastion" cinematic. In that cinematic you will see the beggining of Arthas when eh becames Definetly evil and search his mentor called Uther (that in the past try to make Arthas a good person and king).
On our list to check out. We actually were given a pretty comprehensive WoW list to get through and we’ll have to do it in chunks but seems like it would be a blast to get through 😃
this makes me want to play the game again. now despite this being an old video, don't think the naga Illidan woke up in his scene are as primitive and beastly as they seem. they're essentially elves that'd been mutated by one of the infamous Old Gods when their kingdom fell, adapting them to survive and thrive in the ocean. and because they once ruled one of the most advanced civilizations on Azeroth back when they were elves, I'm certain they retained their powerful magic. they were actually unsettlingly close to taking the elemental plane of water, the Abyssal Maw, from Neptulon and thus would've gained immense power as a faction since then I think they'd basically have control over the plane's elemental denizens and more. I'm just guessing exactly what they'd have because it's been years since I've played. basically the point is the naga are more powerful than they initially appear to be.
The crazy part about all these cutscenes is that, the only characters who come even close to being what we might consider "regular" people are the two orcs that face off against the demon lord. They're both quite powerful in their own rights but are, essentially, just soldiers. Grommosh only manages to defeat the demon lord because of a trick. When he attacks he can make it look like he's in one place when he's really in another. Well them and, King Terenas but, he's just there for Arthas to solidify his villaindom. :P
Nice reaction!!!! Gonna try to make a short summary to help with the lore in the next cinematics 😊 1. The prophet (Medivh) foresaw a demon invasion coming to the world and try to bring Orc and Human leaders to put away their conflicts and join with him. 2. The human king did not listen. And turns out the plague from the north as his advisor said is a big deal.......story....... as a result his son become a death knight and killed him. 3 His son Arthas opened a Portal to bring a Demon Lord which brings the destruction of Human Kingdom. A few of Orcs led by Thrall(Orc with Hammer) and humans led by Archmage Jaina (Major charactor in coming cinematics) fled the land with the Prophet. 4. (The orcs except the Chief --- Hammar Orc were cursed with Demon Blood before) The blood brother of the Orc Chief sacrificed himself to save the orcs from Demon's Slavery and killed that HUGE DEMON. 5. The remaining Orcs and Humans team up with nightelves( Led by Hornblowing guy - Furion Stormrage) to defeat the demon lord summoned by Arthas but betrayed them later to die. 6. (The brother of the leader of Nightelves) Illidan Stormrage who is half elf and half demon made a deal with Demons for his own purpose. His task ---- kill the lich king who betrayed the demons in No.5 7. When Illidan is at the base of Frozen Throne. Arthas is waiting for him. He was defeated. PS ( All demons...even half demons are immortal so they will come back later) 8. Arthas ascend the Frozen Throne and become the next Lich King. Starts World of Warcraft.... Ok... it was pretty long sorry :P
King Terenas was actually a pretty good king and did nothing to deserve death, Arthas lost his soul when he touched his sword and was basically just another slave to the helm he put on later on. He was simply just following orders to his new master to take out his father.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames He was mostly lost I'd say but putting on the helm solidified it even more. What truly solidified 1000% that he was lost though was when he destroyed his own heart in wrath of the lich king so the players couldn't retrieve it to try to redeem Arthas' soul.
Loved your reaction and I love how excited and open-minded you are when starting with a new medium! Are you planning to do multiple cinematics in one video like this or do you think you'll do one at a time? :)
We got a comprehensive list from someone down in the comments with basically a complete history that includes 90+ vids. Some are super short like less than a minute so we are probably going to do compilations for WoW with multiple cinematics and trailers 😁🥳
Medivh (Pronounced Med-eve) Aka Raven Boi, was the last guardian of tirisfal, a line of guardians whose sole purpose is to defend the world from the Burning Legions, The guardian before Medivh, Aegwynn (Pronounced Age-win also his Momma) through another very long story ended up with the spirit of Sargares in her (Sargaras being the head honcho of the burning legion), while she was pregnant with Medivh. Rather than letting the council of the Kirin Tor (Basically magical congress) decide who the next guardian would be, she gave the power to Medivh, with the power came Sargares, who possessed Medivh and opened the Dark Portal from the side on Azeroth while a powerful warlock Gul'Dan opened it on his side prompting the first Orcish invasion of Azeroth, in the end his apprentice kills him but also the spirit of Sargares and he ends up resurrecting but due to the damage he's caused he chooses to keep his face hidden since yknow, Orcish Invasion, thousands dead, demonic plot, kinda bad for a mans reputation.
When I studied game design they used Arthas as the ultimate example of an anti hero. He's one of the most well written character in all of arts.
Many have agreed with you 😎
and then shaowlands happen
@@furydeath thats what happens when people who don't care about the legacy are put in charge of writing old lore characters :(
Bolvar was very mutch weaken as Lich King than Arthas in lore so vs Sylvanas without Frostmourne aligned to the crown the Lich King was almost a status to lead undead this is in wow.
Love it when games add those little details 😊
I love Undercity - always visited this spot

Thanks for putting this all together! Could you provide all the links now? 😜😂 Totally kidding. We really appreciate you doing this list for us 😃🥳🍾🙌
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames As long as it means that I can enjoy more reactions from you, I gladly put some time and work in :)
And yeah, that list is loooong. No need to watch all of it, just wanted to put it all in a chronological order, so that you don't get lost... nerd out!
29:20 That music with Arthas on top of Icecrown is so chilling, this is what a perfect character should be.
😎🤟
Arthas bing chilling king
13:04 Translation: " Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world. From this seal shall arise the doom of men who in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own. Blindly they built their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit. Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control. Let the echoes of doom resound across the wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair. "
As said by Archimonde, the Defiler, one of the fallen Triumvirate of the Eredar and now a Lord of the Burning Legion.
😎🤟😈
We’ve heard so much about how epic Arthas story is. Not one person was ever like, yeah it was okay 😂 One day we will see it all for ourselves 😊
Great times, when you had to play the game to understand videos, shortcuts and novels, instead of reading novels and watching shortcuts to understand the game.
@@santiagomeneses7049 - 100% this
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames - Good thing to point out - it's a great piece of story in a rather old strategy game.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames there is a book called "THe Rise of The Lich king"
Thats the entire canon story, from start to finish of Arthas.
Arthas is the best character in Warcraft no Matter how many heroes comes and goes He will be my Hero 🤩
😎🤟👊🍻
Arthas may be the best character, but Illidan will always be the greatest hero.
darkterror against all.
Arthas was right from the beggining. To bad no one was willing to hear him. It would have saved a lot of life.
Same , I grew up with wc3 and with Arthas’s story and downfall , I too think that is the best character they ever created
King Terenas was actually a great king on the overall. The Lich King just fcks EVERYTHING up.
Fair enough 🙌🙃
Little tip: These aren't 'trailers'. They are the ingame cutscenes.
Thanks so much! We’ve made the adjustments 😊🙏
@@Cainite They're also 4k in reforged, instead of the 360p or something of the original WC3
@@Cainite they got changed, for example the intro cinematic, the infernal uses the WoW infernal design rather than original Wc3 one
Makes sense. It gives us a decent base of knowledge to work with at least and a reference point for some characters 🙂
I have such a deep connection with this game. High school care-free gaming days were the best!
the scene with the demon and the dust, especially without context, undersells that that city was basically the largest gathering of power, knowledge and resistance to the legion left on that continent (which due to the way azeroth's landmass is distributed means the hemisphere), and archimonde, once summoned, literally wiped it off the map like a sandcastle.
Guy with Horns, Blindfold and Wings is Illidan
Illidan originaly a Night Elf was a gifted mage, Night Elfs drew their power from a mystic well known as the Well of Eternety which made them very potent Arcane (Magic) users and one could say they even abused the Arcane so much that it caught the attention of the Burning Legion a demonic force that seeks to exterminate all life (for a spoilery reason). But Illidan creates a new Well of Eternety and for this crime and his betrayal in the war he is imprisoned for 10 000 years
Later when Arthas manages to summon the Demon overlord Archimonde (big demon that played with the sand) the demons send forces to kill the Night Elfs a priestess and leader of the Night elfs releases Illidan as his Demon Hunting capabilities are boon in the war. Illidan manages to stop the attacking demons but in the process gains even more demonic powers and for this he is exiled and hated by his brother.
Illidan pretends to join the Legion again and they sent him to destroy the Lich King as he has outlived his usefullness and has also betrayed the Legion, Illidan prepares a massive spell that will shatter the Northrend and destroy the Lich King but Arthas comes and stops the spell and both of them battle Arthas is victorius
Illidan survives heavily wounded retreats to another world were he fortifies his position and prepeares to face the wrath of his demon overlords for his failure but also prepares to destroy the Legion
Illidan is later killed by us the players and his body is taken to a special prison by the Night Elfs so he cant be revived (Demons have a nack for always coming back and Iliidan is a demon)
tl:dr Illidan is a gray-ish character prepared to do anything even if thats evil to stop the Legion as only he and his followers realize how much of a threat the Legion actually are
So Illidan is kind of good if he’s trying to stop the Lich King. Or I guess it’s all about perspective. Battle for power. 🤔
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Well the writers call him an anti-hero a person who has a just cause but uses unjust means to achieve it but by the end of his story he ends up doing something very heroic
If you end up watching all of the WoW cinematics you will learn the rest of his story
small correction, when Illidan was preparing a spell to destroy Icecrow Glacier it wasn't Arthas that stopped him but the combined forces of Night-elves led by Malfurion (Illidan's twin brother) and Maiev Shadowsong (Illidan's jailer for 10.000 years) and the blood elves lead by Prince Kael'thas (later subordinate to Illidan and a great character that writers wasted among others)
@@KwstasTsiropoulos oooh right I remember now thanks mate
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I am so sorry but please don't listen to him, Illidan ( the winged dude with the horns) is one of the most complex and well designed characters of all time, so if u are interested please look up the actual lore for him in lore videos, because 30% of the the things that dear @Weelah said are wrong and not accurate. For example Illidan was never killed, he was just imprisoned in Vault of Wardens. or Night Elves didn't draw Burning Legion.
To explain the Lich King situation with enough details to have it make sense but not so much that you end up being more confused than you started out:
So in the very first trailer you saw the big rock creature drop from the sky, those are the Legion (demons) that have come to take over Azeroth (the name of the world).
It was very well constructed so we could follow it and get a better understanding. Thanks! 😃🙏
Was a pretty good summary. Going any further into detail would take hours. Some videos exist that summarize pre-wow lore, and they usually last about an hour (with very fast narration).
watching this I'm kind of reliving part of the original emotions I had when watching these some 17 years ago.. thanks for the video!
Our pleasure ☺️
Here is a brief explanation of these cutscenes from me to make them better understood:
1:47 - Basic intro of the game that appeared at the time of game launch.
His mission, however, is recognized by his brother and Tyrnade the leader of the elves as crimes against nature and he is banished, here we have the continuation of his story, how he tried to gain more power, I do not reveal why
.
Nice! Thanks so much for breaking this all down for us in a succinct way 😃🙏
This was epic back in the day and showed the amazing talent the animators at Blizz had to offer.
☺️
In retrospect, Arthas was really lucky managing to find a helmet that fit his transmog (in-game option to change the appearance of your armor) so well ;)
🙃
I know its old but I can recommend everyone to read the books about the first crusade when the elven realm got destroyed (which ultimately caused the split of the elven races) and the tragic story about Illidan.
the war of the ancients! is so cool! too bad a lot of it has been retcon in the canon
I think the frozen throne ending cinematic so sad since you know who Arthas was and seeing him "lost" like that is like losing a honorable hero to darkness, which in fact is.
😢
Also that Arthas said "is it finally over?" Which means he suffered at the hands of the lich's power.
For a little more context on these:
The first video isn't really story relevant.
Its so enjoyable watching your reactions! Thanks for the hard work, looking forward whatever else you guys watch :D
Thanks very much for the kind words. We appreciate it. 🥰
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames im glad that you are enjoying these older though remastered cgi's. I hope the starcraft IP is as engaging for you.
Guy in cloak turning in to raven is Medivh
He was a human, one of the most powerful mages in world , a Guardian(a special mage tasked with protecting the world from the Legion) but corrupted by the leader of the Burnig Legion Sergaras
The Orcs (green guys) and their home world were already conqured by the Legion and made their puppets the Legion decided to use the Orcs as means to soften up Azeroth and prepare it for their arraival. This is the failure he was talking about with the King and mistake he wanted to fix
The Orcs were eventually defeated and put in to Holocaust like camps while the humans were deciding what to do with them.
Thanks again for the background info 😁🥂
*Sargeras XD
Okay, I’m going to avoid a massive Lore dump but just add “explain to me like I’m 5” pieces of information that is very important to understand later cinematics and help clarify both your Favorite character so far that you’ve seen. Here we go:
- There is a Titan Pantheon essentially godhood level in WoW and one of them - Sargeras the Destroyer goes bad.
This was super helpful. We enjoy the explaining like we are 5 technique. Great job condensing a massive story into pieces we could understand 😃🥳😎🤟
One quick correction; Thrall was born in War 1, so he only contributed in War 2 and War 3.
@@DigimonFan814 Correct.
I guess we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover 🙃
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Well they did make him look that, so your judgment was natural. His own brother was the one who banished him in the first place.
You've so got to react to World of Warcraft: Legion cinematics to see how Illidan Stormrage is! :D Also the lizardy swimming creatures are Naga former Night Elves whose city sank beneath the seas at the Sundering along with their queen Azshara. :)
We plan to do a deep dive in WoW and then probably come back to do Arthas full story ☺️
Nice info! We appreciate a good demon allegiance 😈😂🤟
What a joy it is to watch you guys react to this. The tragedy of Arthas is in my eyes a masterpiece. Looking forward to more! :)
Glad you enjoyed it. Loving the Warcraft stuff on our end. Fascinating world and characters 😃
Hey ! Just discovered your channel through these reactions and I love it ! I'll clearly wont miss the next ones :)
Just a little bit of context for Arthas / The lich king on these videos :
On the first cinematic we see Medivh (the crow guy) reaching out to Thrall (Yes orc, Ogres are rly different on azeroth !) and telling him to rally the horde and to sail West, to Kalimdor.
Arthas was the one who led the investigation and realized that this "scourge" was in fact turning living people to undead people under the control of a dreadlord named "Mal'Ganis"
After this discover, Arthas just started to go mad and was ready to do absolutely anything to save his people and his kingdom.
(Illidan)
He returned, and found Illidan at the bottom of the IceCrown Citadel who was there to destroy the Lich King.
I wish I could discover it all over again !

lovely i love you guys you make me happy when i watch your videos
Happy to hear that! 😃😃
Oh yeah we will have to go back for full story but this was a nice little glimpse 🙂
Cool deal. Yeah we plan to watch Warlords of Draenor so will keep in mind when we see it ☺️
It's a very long time commitment (but shorter than playing the two games) but there's afew video's on TH-cam called Warcraft 3: The Movie, that includes all the in game dialog, and in game cinematics that explain the story in full.
Also Warcraft 3 Reforged was the recent remaster of Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos & Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne.
Yeah we might never end up playing this one but checking out the full story is definitely on the table 😊
"You never want your clothes to talk too you" That is a great line:D
Ah this brings back memories, thank you!
Our pleasure 😊
Need all cinematics Total War Warhammer 1,2,3 and Astartes and Thanks you two amazing
Thank you! 🥰🥳
Wow, you bring so much positive from the very first minute.
We love doing these reactions and interacting with people so it’s easy to have fun and be positive 😃🥳
Please realize, that all these cinematics are at least 20!!! years old!
this was blizzard animation standard, pre 2000...
especially the arthas one was an absolute milestone of the times.
Thrall's vision to this day is my favorite cinematic ever!
warcraft lore is so rich...this is pure nostalgia
😊🥳🤟
You: "You never want your clothes to talk to you! It's never a good sign!"
Me: "Yeah, it's even worse when there's the corrupted spirit of an orc shaman talking to you from inside a frozen helmet."
Yup. That would definitely be worse 😂
Man I always forget ner’zul was an orc shaman lol
Been waiting for this :)
Keep it up !
😃🤟🥳
Classic warcraft is the best! the Tides of War, I really love that one! my childhood ~
☺️🥳
Almost any fantasy that exist today in any form, has its roots on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings universe.
Truth 🙌🙃
We plan to check out a bunch of WoW stuff. Have a comprehensive list compiled form comments 😃
The in-game cutscenes are definitely worth a watch as well (RoC first, then FT). WC3 had a surprisingly amazing story
We’ve heard Arthas story is one of the best all time in fantasy genre. 🤩
Archimonde the big demon overlord tha played in the sand
Archimonde was summoned by Arthas in to Azeroth.
Sad story. Sacrificing for the greater good though 🥲
@@HexJK Oh okay. I don't play these games for the multiplayer anyways.
Can't get better than Warcraft 2. That was the ultimate game.
Will have to take your word on that 😎🙃
Call me petty, but I hate that these are all branded with the failure that was "Warcraft 3: Reforged."
These cinematics and game were made back in the mid 2000's by people who really cared about making proper games, and by a company that had value in their customers.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames that's a great and accurate comparison. Can't really say it any better than that haha.
A story we hope to get to and watch in its entirety. For now just little bits and pieces but later much more 😃
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames cool!
Cheers! 🥂 We definitely plan on doing more WoW and getting into more lore. Looking forward to it 😁
Funny that they think illidan (the dark demon guy) is one of the wholy evil ones, as he is the most morally grey character in the lore.
Yeah we totally judge a book by its cover 😂 But we have since been wanting to know more about him and his antihero journey 😃
Sooo much lore characters here. This video came like 25y ago...idk not sure.
You guys looks like already know lot of stuff here. But anyway.
in short :
Warcraft universe start when Possessed Medive open the dark portal and summon orcs who are enslaved by legion.
Thanks for all the time stamps helping explain a bit more on the characters 😃 We really appreciate it 😊🙏
the thing of warcraft is that for arthas to become the lich king, he first needed to try desesperatedly to save his people from a plague that will kill you or make you a zombie, when you find a city big enough to be infected, and the fact of if they turn, they will overrun the kingdom, see your mentor and the big bulk of your army leave you behind and then have to chase the demon responsible for the plague to the northpole, just to find a cursed blade that became the final nail in his corruption coffin... tells a little bit of why he's the villan, and the reassons of him killing his father: *YOU PLAY 2/3 OF WARCRAFT 3 AS ARTHAS*
Thanks for the extra info on the game and Arthas story 😃
Hi! If anywhere on your list there's World of Warcraft cinematic called Old Soldier I suggest to watch it together with other from same series in following order:
1. Old Soldier
2. Lost Honor
3. Safe Haven
4. Reckoning
As alternative Blizzard has released them as single video called "Battle for Azeroth: Varok Saurfang’s Mak’gora
"
Thanks! We plan to start doing some deeper dives into WoW with some more compilations similar to these but with a few more comprehensive parts 😁
Fun fact, if you go to the in-game location called Undercity, also known as Capital City where Arthas killed his father you can hear the cutscene from Warcraft 3.

these arent trailers they are teasers of how good the game can look but it looks like toon town when you actually play it
29:04 icecrown the monument of our suffering. The vale between life and death. Where the usurper sits on the frozen throne. But no king rules forever.

Hey! If anyone is wondering about what the demon Archimonde says in the cinematic at 13:00 , here are the subtitles from Eredun (the language of his race )
Thank you! 😃
Hitman E3 2015 Cinematic Trailer Pls
Gonna make 30k before next weeks reactions! Congrats!
🤯 crazy sauce. 🥳🍾
12:59 The demon here is Archimonde the Defiler, leader of the Legion's invasion in Warcraft 3.
He is speaking Eredun, and the translation is:
"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world.
From this seal shall arise the doom of men, who, in their arrogance, sought to wield our fire as their own.
Blindly they build their kingdoms upon stolen knowledge and conceit.
Now they shall be consumed by the very flame they sought to control.
Let the echoes of doom resound across this wretched world, that all who live may hear them and despair."
a little late to this but here is a quick break down:
North part of the nation suffer from a plague that turns living people into undead ghouls.
Thanks for sharing that info! Arthas story is going to be a separate journey for us and it deserves that much 😎🎉🥳
warcraft 3 its one of the so rarely game who have a VERY bad ending, and that still a master piece

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames thanks I'll be trying that
Btw, and interesting fact I've learned recently, tho I think it's still widely debated - when Arthas put on the Crown of the Lich King, that's when he truly died and became Undead.
😯
You missed the culling of Stratholme which is what set Arthas down the wrong path, and when he got Frostmourne which is what sealed his fate.
We have to go back and do a comprehensive story watch for Arthas 🤩
This game never get old
😎🥳🥂
@@LuckySmurf Thats usually how "the ends justify the means" characters go. Certainly not wholly evil in any way.

We plan to. Won’t be next week but hopefully coming up in next month or so. No promises but it is on our radar. 🙂

"Let this scar signify the first blow against the mortal world...

The game has a lot of in game cinematics that bring in a lot of the missing pieces and the cinematics only show key moments.
many crucial informations missing. good try.
Thanks so much for the info 🙂
Arthas wasn't totally a good dude at the start. He was quick to anger and even quicker to resort to violence, to the point that Uther had to remind him that vengeance wasn't a part of being a paladin.
It wouldn't take much to turn him full heel.
Can't wait to see the battlefield V " the last tiger" reaction from you

Arthas full story is something we plan on checking out eventually 😃
Little fun fact: Ingame you can still the blood where his crown dropped^^
😯 cool little detail 😊
if wanting to dive deeper into the story, definitely worth watching the in game cut-scenes
Nice reaction!!!! Gonna try to make a short summary to help with the lore in the next cinematics 😊
His task ---- kill the lich king who betrayed the demons in No.5
7. When Illidan is at the base of Frozen Throne. Arthas is waiting for him.
He was defeated.
PS ( All demons...even half demons are immortal so they will come back later)
8. Arthas ascend the Frozen Throne and become the next Lich King.
Starts World of Warcraft....
Ok... it was pretty long sorry :P
Actually that was pretty succinct! Thanks! We understood most of it 😂 Looking forward to diving into more stuff from WoW 🥳
King Terenas was actually a pretty good king and did nothing to deserve death, Arthas lost his soul when he touched his sword and was basically just another slave to the helm he put on later on. He was simply just following orders to his new master to take out his father.
Was Arthas lost at this point or on his way to destruction? 🤔
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames He was mostly lost I'd say but putting on the helm solidified it even more. What truly solidified 1000% that he was lost though was when he destroyed his own heart in wrath of the lich king so the players couldn't retrieve it to try to redeem Arthas' soul.
the fall from grace story of Arthas was really good
Loved your reaction and I love how excited and open-minded you are when starting with a new medium!
“Kinda bad for a mans reputation” 😂 was not expecting that at the end. Thanks for explaining more of the lore to us 😃
