Malthael the Angel of Death was actually the Angel of Wisdom but ended up vanishing at one point for so long that Tyrael and the others didn't know where he was. He took on the Mantle of Death when he decided there was only one way to end the Eternal Conflict Between Heaven and Hell. Which was to use the Black Soulstone to basically absorb all demonic souls/evil in the world.
But the humans of Sanctuary were born from Angel and Demon, so we have both the capacity for good and evil as well as are technically part angel, part demon. So the Black Soulstone would rip the demonic part of our essence out which results in our death, since it is a part of who we are.

Each class is represented in the ending, but since the ending is the same regardless of which class you play they only showed the barbarian to not repeat it too many times. There is also another class which came out after this compilation, the Necromancer whos really cool.
All the classes are the Barbarian, the Demon Hunter, the Witch Doctor, the Wizard, the Monk, the Crusader, and the Necromancer.
They did initially plan to have another DLC after this which would involve you choosing to be good or evil while also adding the Druid class, but they scrapped it so now it'll be interesting to see how they transfer this ending where your player character basically becomes godlike over to diablo 4.
The diablo series has always had some of the previous games player characters in the next installments. In diablo 2 for example, "the wanderer" you follow the footsteps of throughout the game is actually the barbarian class from diavlo 1 whos carrying diablos soul within him.
So one of the player characters from diablo 3 might play a role in diablo 4, maybe as a boss like the Wizard class from diablo 1 was in diablo 2.
Speaking of diablo 2, they did just release the remastered version with all the cinematics completely remade, it's a good watch.

Yeah they showed actually two classes but we cut one since they were the same. Would’ve been cool if they had different endings depending on who you chose. Doesn’t need to be that vastly different. But little differences would’ve been nice. And maybe depending on 2-4 major choices you make in the game it could affect ending as well. Love games like that. But that’s just being nitpicks of course 🤗 And we had heard Diablo 2 had a remastered one but hadn’t realized it would be released so quickly after the game came out 😅

    Incredible video guys!!
If you guys care for some back lore / spoilers:
MALTHAEL: the reason Tyrael was able to become Wisdom, was because Malthael USED to be Wisdom before he essentially went insane. He always wanted to know how the Nephalem could defeat the higher evils, but the angels could not. So eventually, he went to where the Worldstone used to be(the end of diablo 2) and collected all the souls, and became the aspect of death. Wanting to get rid of ALL DEMONS (this included humans because the humans are half angel, half demon) he wanted to eradicate EVERYBODY.
LEAH: Way back when, in diablo 1, Aidan (the warrior) killed diablo, who happened to be his brother corrupted with diablos soul stone, and eventually drove that stone into his own head, becoming the host of diablo. He eventually made love with the witch in town Adria (blood marsh lady) because diablo told them to make a new host he could use later down the road (Leah) and Leah the baby, was left with Gillian and Deckard Cain (Uncle) which is how the evils always knew where they were / how to get behind all the ranks, because they had no clue Leah was the host of Diablo.

Well, if you ask me the Eternal Conflict between Angels and Demons has been a great threat that would soon engulf the world of mortals, but if I was an Angel, I would help Tyrael with his mission to help the mortal world and the Angels fight against the demonic legions and help recreate another version of the world stone for the Angels and give the Angels the power of Creation and the ability to understand the difference between Good and Evil and allow them to enact a new age of unity and protecting the innocent. I would also have a conversation with Imperious the Archangel of Valor and help him understand everything about mortal people and their morality and opportunity to know the difference between Good and Evil and always do what we know is right. And I will choose the Angels of the High Heavens to help find a way to permanently imprison and defeat the Great Evils and their demonic legions once and for all and protect the universe and bring all of creation to an new era of peace and prosperity.
      But that's just my opinion.

    • @BuddyCollins-eu5gx
      @BuddyCollins-eu5gx 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Plus if I was a very powerful person, I would use my power to create an army of my own to fight against demons and protect people and I will never allow myself to be tempted to corruption, because with great power also comes great responsibility for that power. But that is just my opinion.

God, I love Diablo. Never played the original but I played a TON of Diablo 2 and possibly even more Diablo 3. D3 got some flak for going in a different artistic direction with brighter colors and more of an action focus than the somewhat horror-like nature of the first two games, but I absolutely love it. The way the world depicts angels and demons both is just awesome, the stylistic choices of how they're represented are simply amazing. There's an action shot from the cinematic where Imperius fights Diablo at the gates of Heaven that has been my main PC's wallpaper for YEARS.
    Lore dump incoming, lol.
One of the cool things is how both angels and the higher demons all have their own concepts that they're embodiments of. The Angiris Council is the ruling body of the angels, and consists of:
    Auriel - Archangel of Hope
    Imperius - Archangel of Valor
    Tyrael - Archangel of Justice
    Malthael - Archangel of Wisdom
    Itherael - Archangel of Fate
The Lords of Hell are the dark reflection of them, the ruling body of Hell:
    Andariel - Maiden of Anguish
    Duriel - Lord of Pain
    Mephisto - Lord of Hatred
    Diablo - Lord of Terror
    Baal - Lord of Destruction
    Belial - Lord of Lies
    Azmodan - Lord of Sin
There are a lot of cool ways their roles actually change a bit as things happen and events alter the landscape. After some of the events of Diablo 2, Malthael takes off and disappears for a good while...the first he's seen again is when he shows up having abandoned his mantle of Wisdom and assuming the role of Angel of Death. His plan is to finally end the Eternal Conflict between Heaven and Hell by using the Black Soulstone to trap the souls of ALL entities descended from Hell. Unfortunately, that includes all of humanity, as the creation myth of mankind in the Diablo universe revolves around a group of both angels and demons that had grown tired of the Eternal Conflict and came together in secret truce to create Sanctuary (their name for the mortal world) as a neutral middle ground. There, they lived in peace for a while and even had children, the half-angel, half-demon Nephilim that would become the first humans.
As you saw in the cinematic, Tyrael himself decided that since Justice had been served and Malthael no longer stood for Wisdom...that he would himself take on the mantle of Wisdom. I love that they can just assume new roles at will, lol.
The whole concept is just so cool to me. I LOVE stuff that deals with Heaven and Hell, and Diablo is my personal favorite franchise with that theme. Doesn't hurt that the games are really fun, too. :D
I'm SUPER excited about Diablo 4 on the horizon. Hopefully the turmoil at Blizzard doesn't hurt it too much, and also hoping it ends up on PS5 since my PC is zero percent a gaming machine these days lol.

      @ericmartin8870 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Syntherus Fair enough, I'm a big fan of games with stat allocation and skill trees myself. Diablo 2 was pretty great that way, but the problem was I don't think outside of mods there was an innate way to respec your character so if you screwed up you had to just make a new one.
At least D3 has a lot of flexibility with trying out different builds. It's pretty solid about streamlining the leveling process and getting quickly to endgame each season to start farming for the gear to make the sort of build you want and push progression.
I've played new characters in several seasons and appreciated the unique gimmicks and new takes on things. I'm not really a ladder climber, but completing the Seasonal Journey is a lot more fun than most other event-based objectives IMO.
It's just a different type of game than the originals, and I think it's a perfectly good entry in the franchise. And most of the loudest voices I heard back when people were really flaming it in its early years were about two things: the "cartoony" graphics and that godawful Auctionhouse.

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Darksiders is an interesting IP
Its based on Joey Maduira work( he's a famous comics artist)
The setting is that the player character is War, one of the 4 Horsemen of Apocalypse, who is unjustly accused of Breaking the 7th Seal of the Apocalypse and turning earth into a shit show, even tho he did nothing of the sort.
Its up to War to then find the culprits, by wandering a devastated earth, where Angels and Demons fought an All out War, with an unprepared Humanity caught in the crossfire and..not doing good...
The Game is a 3rd person Action Hack'n Slasher, with exploration in a semi open world environement, where you can collect items and power ups that allows you to go back to previously visited zones to unlock new passages forward ala Zelda games.
War is voiced by Liam O'Brian (from Critical Role, who's also Illidan's voice in WoW), the Watcher who's accompanying him is voiced by Mark Hamill( Luke Skywalker and also the Voice of the Joker for years now in animation and video games)
There is 4 games for now, with the 3 first games been more or less the same type (open world Action/adventure) and the 4th game been a Yoip down view Action/RPG ala Diablo.
The first 3 games have you focus and control one of the Horsemens: War in the 1st game, Death in the 2nd and Fury in the 3rd game.
Strife the 4th member appears alongside War in the 4th Game, and the story of the game Happens like thousands of years before the 1st game.

Thank you for helping me realize how much story is given during the gameplay of Diablo 3. The whole story does get fairly jumbled and lost without the little bits of lore and conversation picked up throughout the crawl.

"We were meant for more than this! To protect the innocent! But if your precious laws bind you all to inaction. Then I will no longer stand as your brother!" THIS line is part of speech is so true...when the other Angels chose to stand by and do nothing it was the Angel of Justice calling them out. As the saying goes, "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." Tyrael is right on point.

I love the lore for Diablo. What made it interesting for me was not there was just one great big evil in the world but that there is multiple evils and they are competing against each other. This would be the three prime evils and then the devil underneath them. It is interesting how the angels in this world has no face and only when Tyrael becomes human does he shows his face. What is fascinating is showing how flawed they are and that it was the human ( player) character that could become the biggest hero and defeat both the demons with Diablo and his ilk and then the angels with the angel of death and his ilk. It a s great lore piece. My friends and I play dungeon and dragon and one of our friends is actually going to be running a D and D game between Diablo 2 and 3 as our setting.
If you like diablo and their setting, you should check out the full trailer for Baulder Gates 3 full cinematic. It has many great references to D and D and the scene is just so beautiful and it could have that feel of spookiness to it that you looking for in these game videos. by the canon of the diablo series, Diablo's form is heavily influensed by whom's the host, in diablo 1 you face him in the body of the "skeleton's king's" son, so diablo in the body of a child is barely taller than the characters, in diablo 2 he's wearing the body of one of the diablo 1 characters, while useing the body of a trained warrior/knight, he's far taller and bulkier, that's why in diablo 3, he's a "female diablo" as the host is Leah

This instance is a little different however, since diablo has absorbed the other evils within the black soulstone, hes an amalgamation of the various evils (one being female) its why hes got a whole bunch of things going on, its also why, despite having a tiny woman for a host, he towers over everything else around him!

In the order you watched it was Demon Hunter, Barbarian, Wizard, Witch Doctor, Monk, Crusader, and there’s another class that was added in a later expansion called the Necromancer. This is a great game with a great story and if you two play games then I’d definitely recommend picking up Diablo 3 and playing through the co-op campaign. I think you’d enjoy it. Some little tidbits if no one else posted any:
Adria is a witch from the first Diablo. And if i recall correctly, she slept with the Warrior (i forget his name, but canonically, the Warrior class from Diablo 1 is the main character, despite there being 3 characters to play as). She slept with the warrior after he defeated Diablo and basically got possessed by him. I am not super clear on the reason why exactly if someone wants to go into more detail on that. Leah is the Daughter of said warrior and adria, thus she has the essense of diablo in her. Adria knew this, and was using Leah, hence her inevitable betrayal.
Diablo tends to take a form dependent on whomever he is possessing. That is why he actually kind of had a more feminine design, because he was possessing Leah, a woman.
there are 7 Evils in the lore of Diablo. 4 Lesser Evils and 3 Prime Evils:
    Lesser:
    Andariel, Maiden of Anguish
    Duriel, Lord of Pain
    Azmodan, Lord of Sin
    Belial, Lord of Lies
    Prime:
    Mephisto, Lord of Hatred
    Baal, Lord of Destruction
    Diablo, Lord of Terror
Dont let the term "lesser evils" fool you though, the lesser evils, despite being beneath the Prime Evils, were ever so powerful in their own right and not to be taken lightly.
The black soul stone contained the essences of all 7 Evils and were absorbed by Leah. While Leah did turn into Diablo, technically that was actually an incarnation of Tathamet, The Prime Evil.
"A seven-headed dragon composed of all darkness and vileness that Anu cast off itself before the universe was created. It is known that he was the only reason that the Burning Hells came into existence. Tathamet battled Anu, and when the two beings died the seven heads of Tathamet became the seven Great Evils. The three most prominent heads became Diablo, Mephisto and Baal, and the four lesser heads Azmodan, Belial, Andariel and Duriel. Tathamet's body meanwhile became the foundation for the Burning Hells"
thats all i got, glad you enjoyed it!
anyone else feel free to add more or correct me if i got something wrong

12:50 This is by far the best cinematic that Blizzard has ever done and they have done some damn good once. I would say that 90% of there cinematics are near legendary status but this 1 definatly tops them all.
1 important thing that isent shown unless u play the game is that while Malthael (angel of death) is viewed as the "bad guy" as he is killing or stealing souls he is actully doing it with good intent behind why he is doing it. Humanity was created by 1 demon Lilith "Diablo 4 ;)" and 1 angel Inarius and they both just wanted to get away from the battle betwinn heaven and hell so they created the world of men so humanity have both angelic and demonic essence and the power potential of both of them combined. Inarius saw this power potential a very long time ago and weakened humanity to what they are today. Malthael´s goal is to remove any demonic influance from humanity so that humanity can no longer be currupted by hell. But as u might imagen that would result in the death of alot of ppl as the demonic essence is ripped from there soul. So while he´s intentions are good. From the perspective of the ppl it looks like an extinction attempt. Humanity is pretty mutch just an innocent bystander caught in betwinn a war that have raged on sense the beginning of time with no end in sight.
What is abit wierd in the angel society is that an Archangels title is more then just a title and they are the literal defeniton of the word. Tyrael is the Archangel of Justice (or was, now Wisdom) and so no1 can judge him for anything. For aslong as he holds that title no1 can over rule him in matters conserning justice. The other angles can argue and debate but in the end he´s word is final in anything regarding justice. This goes for any of the 5 archangels with a title (Valor, Justice, Hope, Fate, Wisdom). In the game we have to rescue the Archangel Auriel, The aspect of hope as she is captured when hell invades heaven and while that angel may not even fight she is hope and so aslong as she is captured any angel have just lost the hope of winning. or hope for anything really.

My favorite story element from Diablo 3 is actually the in-game side-stories of your hero's followers: Kormac the Templar, Lyndon the Scoundrel and Eirena the Enchantress.
I especially love the character interactions between them. With Lyndon constantly flirting with Eirena only to be shot down every time, Kormac obviously completely head over heals for Eirena but denying it because of his Templar vows, Lyndon and Kormac being an Odd Couple constantly arguing with each other but clearly respecting and caring for each other (especially Lyndon trying to get Kormac to loosen up and, have fun and most importantly tell Eirena how he feels about her), and Eirena just being a general badass who is also subtly but obviously very much digging Kormac. Their individual story quests are done amazingly as well, making them actually characters.

(First lets name all the Angels)
    -Auriel (Archangel of HOPE)
-Iperius (Archangel of VALOR) The one you see in cinematic the HOT HEADED.
    -Ltherael (Archangel of FATE)
-Malthael (Archangel of WISDOM) > Became the Angel of DEATH!) Reaper basically
-Tyrael (Archangel of JUSTICE) > Now Mortal Aspect of WISDOM
    >As you can see Tyrael took Malthael spot when Mal step down to become on Angel of Death , reason behind it , is that , HE DID NOT like Imperious ways , and the way the Angels were doing things , so he left and tried taking this in to his own hands and defeating EVIL.
-The moment when Mal picks up Tyrael and pushes him away , is that he tasted his SOUL , and Tyraels soul is PURE! So he left him live!.
-Humans on the other hand are HALF Demons Half Angels , since they sin! (So he killing them all off) and that's why Tyrael on the mission to stop him before he kills EVERY DEMON and impurity (Humans)

How did I miss this?! I love Diablo 2 and 3! I played 2 ages ago when I was still in school and it blew my mind. Then years later I got 3 and once again I loved it! It's a good old hero's journey adventure. Granted, Diablo's story is quite linear, I mean, there are no different outcomes or important decisions that tip the balance to one side or the other. You just choose your favorite class and embark in an epic tale to save the world.
In Diablo 2 I used to play with a female Assassin and that class was renamed on 3 as Demon Hunter but it's basically the same. I just love that class. You get to play with twin daggers, crossbows and other forms of hand blades and combined with martial arts and setting traps on the field, you can make a lot of damage to foes. In any case, every class has its strong and weak points. And about classes, with the Reaper of Souls DLC (act V) there was a new class called Necromancer which sadly you didn't get to see in these cinematics. It's basically the power of spirits and raising the dead to fight for you or at your side (at times, the Necromancer's skills seem even a bit vampiric in nature. I mean, they can suck foes' blood to replenish energy and stuff like that😵) Very, very cool class!
And then there is the soundtrack! Whereas the main story's OST is epic and powerful, the DLC's one is... conflicting. The music leaves you wondering whether you actually did the right thing by killing Malthael. That combined with the cold color pallet of the DLC, specially in contrast with the bright warm colors of the main game, I find myself liking Reaper of Souls even more than the main story.

Very happy Necromancer will be back in Diablo 4 cuz it sounds super fun. Who doesn’t love dark magic with a little bit of vampire mixed in 😈😛

@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames Totally! As much as I'd like to hype about Diablo 4, Blizzard has been a complete mess lately shooting themselves on the foot with scandals and questionable decisions so I'll first see reviews when the game comes out and then decide whether it's a good idea to get it😅

There is a ton of context missing because of the fact it's only bonafide cutscenes, I can totally recommend playing the game to get the full picture. It's a fun game overall, with tons of replayability.

You should read the Sin War Trilogy if you haven't already. It provides background information regarding the Eternal Conflict, Lilith, Inarus, the Nephalem, and how humanity came to be.

I find the comment about imperius’ spear being like thors hammer kinda funny, since imperius did forge his spear in the heart of a dying star, much like mjolnir!

With the new remade cinematics of Diablo II and Diablo II Lord of Destruction... hopefully the story will make more sense. I also recommend watching Diablo 1 cutscenes...even though they are very 90's retro cutscenes lol

So, something neat about the Crusaders in Diablo.
They formed originally in the lore, as one among them realized a corruption that began to form in his faith. So he went against his entire order, found a new sect after looking for those with unparalleled strength and who burned with the brightest inner light, and set them forth with just the orders of "cleanse the Zakarum faith." Each Crusader passes on their armor and name to their apprentice, and they pass that on to theirs and so forth.
They all eventually realized that their journey was very much a fool's errand in a way, understanding that none of them may ever truly achieve their goal. Hell, they didn't even truly know what that goal was in the end. How would they cleanse their faith of corruption?
They swiftly began to understand/view their mission differently. That it was a journey where the destination was not important, but the journey itself. The deeds of each singular Crusader. Thus they began to wander the world, seeking corruption and evil with even more fervor. Protecting and preserving good, and wading through insurmountable odds time and time again.
To them it no longer is about their "faith", they each have their own view of what it means to be a crusader. They legitimately found no proof, no clues, nothing that would point towards any kind of redemption or hope for their corrupt faith. They simply use the journey as a moral compass to protect those weaker than them. Hell, they don't even force their faith onto others, as the crusade is indeed all about the journey and the good they can perform on that journey.

For background, Malthael was the archangel of wisdom and the leader of the angels. The division that had been created was due to Inarius’s actions when he and Lillith, the niece of Diablo’s, created humanity and the Nephalim. Imperius wanted to destroy all of humanity, and the other archangels, including Malthael, were impartial but went along with it, except for Tyrael, who voted to save humanity. And since they needed a unified effort, they couldn’t go through with it. The division between Tyrael and Imperius caused Malthael to go to Sanctuary (home of the humans) and study it. Malthael and some of his followers ultimately deemed that humanity having the choice to be good or evil was too dangerous because many chose overwhelmingly evil. And humans had the potential to be Nephalim, beings with both angel and demon in them, making them extremely powerful. So yeah, that’s some background on Malthael.

In the ending when Tyreal says that the Nephalem( the player character) is powerfull enough to face Hell and Heaven and if he will be our Doom or not.
Its kinda a reference for Diablo 1 ending.
In Diablo one the player character faces off Diablo and kills him, dropping the Black Soulstone, see Diablo as survived all this time by linking his Essence and Soul into the Stone, and the Stone is virtually indestructible.
The stone will whisper and tempts anyone that holds it to use its powers, wich in the end results in the unlucky soul to Jam the Stone in their forehead and become Diablo's new vessel.
And at the end of the first game, thats what our Character do...
Malthael, the Angel of Death, was before that the Angel of Wisdom, but he vanished for a very long time, before coming back for the Reaper of Souls Xpac.
See Humans are the result of an Angel and Demon, been fed up with the eternal conflict, and they eloped togheter and created using a powerfull artifact: the world of Men: Sanctuary.
Their Childrens where the Nephalems, Half Demon, Half Angel beings, who where judged too powerfull by both Hell and Heavens, and where more or less destroyed, the Angel who eloped was punished and the Demon was banished( she returns in Diablo 4, she is Lillith, the Mother of the Nephalems and Mankind)
The Nephalems that survived and hide then had their own childrens wich with each generations grew weaker, and Became, Mankind.
When Malthael resurface after Diablo's ransacking of Heavens, he wants to use the Soulstone powers to Kill all Demons, and from his point of view, since Humans are kinda part Demons, for him that includes Humanity, and thus it would End the eternal conflict for good once Demons and Humans have been erased from existance.

You forgot they tinkered with the "Worldstone" which Lilith and her Angel paramore used to create Sanctuary to weaken the Nephilim and turn them into Humanity, but it was corrupted/shattered in Diablo 2 which is what allowed the Nephillim to rise.
