  • In this video we tested IMR 4955 powder for accuracy and low standard deviation data. We paired this powder with Hornady's 147 grain eld-m bullets and Federal's 210 large rifle primers.

I use imr 4955 in both of my 6.5 prcs. 52 grains 4955 with 142 grain accubond long range produces almost exactly the same ballistics as the hornady precision hunter with the 143 grain elk x. Good stuff.

Rough groups. I loolk forward to seeing Retumbo and H1000 tested. From a hunting perspective like to see some of those bullets. Hornadt 143eldx or Berger 140 vld. Thanks for the video and good luck finding your perfect load.

Thank you David. You'll definitely want to subscribe because I'll be doing a series of videos where I test only hunting rounds. The series will include accuracy and gel shooting test.

Sad groups, either clean the rifle or scrap the powder choice. Use H 1000 or 4831 SC and you will have an improvement. The 147's should be about 2950 fps, unless you plan on a 4000 round barrel. The PRC in good condition is a great sub MOA caliber. Very poor results from what should be a decent combination of rifle quality and caliber.

Some groups were painful to watch. I genuinely felt bad for you. Last group gives hope. Have you looked at Retumbo? I really have been pleased & impressed with it in 160s out of my 7mm Rem Mag. Great groups, low ES & SD.

LOL. Thank you. The 2 really bad groups were not accurate because I was adjusting the scope because I was hitting the targets above.
I do have some retumbo powder and will have an upcoming video on it and h1000. Please subscribe to get notifications on those videos. Thank you for the info on your success with the powder. Any other powders that you've had success with that I haven't tried yet?

@@thewashingtonreloader Great on upcoming video. I have had mainly 7 mags & 308s since the mid 80s. And reloaded all that time. So my powder choices may not be compatible to the 6.5 PRC. But I have learned that the same powders for 7mag typically work well in 6.5PRC. My main powders for decades were IMR4831 & IMR4350 in my 7s. Occasionally some H1000.
Didn't do so well with accuracy in H1000. Varget, BLC-2, IMR4064, H4895 for 308 depending on bullet weight. Varget being the best & most versatile. I have recently liked the IMR4451 for 7 Mag. Not as high of velocity but very good es/sd & excellent accuracy... especially near max charges. Thank you. Subscribing.

A bit disappointing to say the least. Your bar is low for that rifle. You are not even shooting for sub-MOA using match ammo. Factory ammo would have done better than almost all of your loads. Try half grain increments with that size cartridge. Sorry but your video is a big disappointment to reloaders that shoot for small groups especially with a 6.5 PRC that usually shoots sub-MOA with many factory loads.
