  • A hard but fun day trout fishing at Blackdyke. The fish were hard to tempt but enough action to make it fun. If I was after hens I would have had a far easier day!

On the strength of your videos I visited Black Dyke this week. Caught a few, kept one fish but the wind was fairly strong. Great commentary on the videos, though, many thanks.

Nice one Simon. Line did look better after a while. Spot on with the fillet. I always filleted mine but there is a knack to getting all the bones without removing too much flesh. I could never do it with a fillet knife. I always used a carving knife. I will be doing a video some time on picking your eating fish. Good fishing mate and take care. Shaun.

Cheers Shaun, when I got home I soaked it in warm water and gently stretched it, looks so much better now.
I fish the Florida Keys most years (obviously not last year). I invested in a quality filleting knife after my first visit. Makes life very easy. Sounds obvious but need the blade super sharp.
Look forward to your next video mate.
      Hope you're keeping well there.

Forgot to ask Simon, you were talking about cooking the trout fillets, and got as far as the breadcrumbs,, did you shallow fry them??. Kind regards Mike South Norfolk. 🍻

That's my shoddy editing lol. Yes I use olive oil, fairly hot then shallow fry. Nice a crispy outside tender inside. Usually have a bit of tartar sauce on the side. It's yummy.

I’d say the fish where more turn on to the white colour more than it being a shrimp, cats whisker would have been more effective maybe🔥🔫

Who can say? That's what I love about fly fishing, so many methods and flies to try. 👍

Like the way you worked out how to get the last one. Thanks for the video. Was that a 9 foot leader you were using or do you go longer than that.

Hello David I am glad you enjoyed the video, please subscribe to see more and check out my other vids.
I tend to fish a 14 to 15 foot leader with a point fly and two droppers around 5 feet apart. I don't taper it, just 9.5lb flouro straight through. Seems to work pretty well and I was advised not to go too light just in case you hit that monster trout!
