  • Pitsford reservoir BEST DAY EVER! last week! I set out hoping to catch a big Brown trout and wasn't disappointed, I caught a HUGE over wintered fish. The hardest fighting fish I have ever caught on fly gear, I thought I had hooked a submarine. I also managed to catch some great Rainbow trout to make for my best day out on a reservoir to date. A white shrimp with gold beaded head did the trick, long leader fished slow on a floating line.

Nice one Simon, you could not have timed that better. Getting that practice on the reel before that amazing brown. I felt so much more confident that you were on the reel. And watching you using your hand as an extra brake. Its not that all fish have to be on the reel, but getting use to switching when need be. Spot on mate. Well done you. Oh thanks for the shout out. Shaun.

Nice one Simon. I think this is the same with any fisherman mate. Once the big fish is landed the energy and enthusiam double,s regardless if you are tired because you've fished all day. Well done cracking brown 💪

Cracking fish Simon and richly deserved. One of the big differences between small still waters and big reservoirs is there is a greater chance of getting overwintered fish. Ps. I'm with Shaun with playing the fish on the reel where possible. However, where barbless hooks are being used it's important to keep an even pressure to avoid fish slipping the hook. There are many who claim that this is easier when you are not playing them on the reel.

Hi Bob, I fished, all of aw waters, with the exception of Pitsford, how does it compare to Grafham, in terms of depth, fighting fish etc, on a personal note, Iam a small water man. One man's meat and all that. Great vidio, thanks for uploading. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk. 👍

I’ve had many a bad days fishing at Pitsford I’ve drawn a blank at least 5 times at £25 a days fishing and being a pensioner I wouldn’t recommend it.

Don’t see the point in reeling in and back out again all the line while playing fish
