  • Hi, Steve here. Thank you for joining me on the Panoramic Travels TH-cam channel.
This video documents our Viking European River Cruise - Amsterdam to Antwerp - in April and May 2022 while the tulips were in full bloom! This was our second Viking river cruise. Janet and I traveled with Don and Kim, friends that we met on the Viking Grand European River Cruise in November 2019 (just before Covid).
The 10 day cruise included the Netherlands cities of Amsterdam, Hoorn, Dordrecht, Rotterdam, Gouda, Kinderdijk, Nijmegen and Maastricht. There was one stop in Germany in the city of Wesel (this was the least interesting stop on the entire cruise).
Then, we headed to Belgium where we visited Antwerp and added the post ship Ghent and Bruges extension, which I would highly recommend! This extension added so much to the trip!
During the ten day cruise, we went on twelve guided tours, five of which were optional (the video will state which ones were optional). All five optional tours were excellent, but I cannot recommend strongly enough the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial Tour in Maastricht on Day 7. It was definitely the most moving event during the entire cruise!
Once we left the Viking Kvasir we boarded a bus for a day trip in the historic city of Ghent. Then, we continued to the city of Bruges where we stayed at the beautiful Hotel Dukes’ Palace which was within walking distance of the town square. Then, we boarded a bus for Ypres, Belgium where we visited Flanders Field, the Menin Gate and the 60 Hill Battleground for some World War I history lessons.
A special thanks to all the people we met on this cruise: Elisa and Pam, George and Chris, Sherry and Sandy, Dick and Paula, Dave and Judy, Ed and Kathy, Jim and Nadine, Jennifer, Jerry and Cindy, John and Ann, Curtis and Pat, Fred and Nancy, Wayne and Barbara, Marty and Kathy, Ted and JoAnn, Richard and Karen, Gary and Gretchen, Jim and Toni, Bonnie and Wanda, Ian and Evelyn, Eric and Debra, John and Tina, Richard and Jacqueline, Mike and Debbie and Jeff and Marlena. You all definitely added a lot to the cruise! And, I thank you for your patience since I told some of you this video would be up on TH-cam in July!
Please leave comments about your river cruise travels or any questions you might have.
    Thank you for watching!

Thanks, Joyce, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! It seems like when I'm not traveling, I'm working on videos from the last trip! Right now I'm working on three videos from our most recent trip; our first Viking OCEAN Cruise - South America and the Chilean Fjords. You can find the first video on my Panoramic Travels TH-cam channel. The other two should be available in the next month or so.

Thank you! We have three more scheduled for 2024: the Capitols of Eastern Europe, The 80th Anniversary of Normandy and Lyon to Provence. Subscribe and click on the notification bell (if you're not already subscribed), so you will know when the videos are up.
If you only do one Viking river cruise in Europe I would recommend the Gran European river cruise. I did a video on that one. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/Iex2xYEJX78/w-d-xo.html

Very nice travelogue! You captured some beautiful locations and interesting facts! Loved the closing footage of the “man in the clock” at the Amsterdam airport :)

I recorded that clock for a few minutes, not knowing how/if it would make it into the video. I worked perfectly for the credits!

Could you tell me if you had any problems with service/booking/ flights from Viking? I wanted to travel Amsterdam to Budapest about October this year but I've read some horrendous reviews about Viking. "The same meals being served night after night , the upper deck closed off the entire cruise, limited alcohol as supplies were low. Looks like you had a nice trip.
    Cheers.

We didn't have any problems with service/booking/flights. We did pay for Viking air and told them what flights we wanted on Delta. As for "same meals being served night after night" ... the left side of the menu is always the same. The right side of the menu is always different. We're not big drinkers; I'm not aware of any alcohol shortages. The upper deck was closed for part of the trip as a safety measure, due to high water levels (therefore, low bridges).
