It’s most of the Northern European countries. Here in the Netherlands we learn English at a young age (11-12 when I was that age, maybe even earlier nowadays) and the English movies/series are usually with subtitles instead of being dubbed. Plus loads of English music (in language).
@@yvonnewinters9699 I think straight away kids are learning English, since here In NL movies, TV,music and games are in English so they are exposed to it as soon as they are exposed to the dutch language. I have had conversations with dutch/Flemish kids as young as 8 in English.
Greatly enjoyed watching this! I am impressed with Rick's effort in pronouncing Scheveningen. As a first generation Dutch American i was always told by my Dutch family that the way to know if someone was truly Dutch was to ask them to pronounce that town name. Rick's enthusiasm for various cultures is palpable in his videos.
It was in WW2 that the Dutch people could spot the nazi spy by asking them to pronounce the city named Scheveningen, no German ever could. 😉 Warm greetings from the Netherlands. 🌷
I am a flight attendant and this is my top layover destination. We usually stay 48H. Initially, I familiarized myself with Amsterdam and because I frequently fly there, I then ventured into the countryside. Oh boy! What a great and admirable place and wonderful people. ❤
This video is a insult to my people and my country. It represents nothing. I come from haarlem so its not because im angry they skipped my place. This video insults my nation by covering the worst cities of the country, which are also the most popular by tourists. In this country the more popular it is the more f-ed up the city is compared to the values of the rest of the nation.
What an impressive and mesmerising architecture! Their towns and cities seem a part of toyland. I love nature. These charming sights and scenes are awesome , and bewitching.
If you ever visit here, be sure to visit Madurodam, that literally is toyland, there are tons of miniature versions of places you can visit here in the Netherlands.
only 0,01% of our country is tourist heritage stuff. the other 99,99% is just normal modern european residential and commercial buildings. But almost all of it is clean, safe and somewhat nice, I think I can safely say the Netherlands is in the top 5 countries in the world to live in. Just don't think these tourist travel vlogs represent the country
As a European, I really enjoy these videos, they remind us of our heritage, devoid of all the ailments of today's Europe's grim realities. To all the North Americans and other peoples watching this, this is how we view your countries, too... only the beautiful side! This is what traveling is about... going to somewhere unfamiliar enough that we can focus on only the best of it. Now the challenge is to replicate that at home.
It’s a beautiful country. I have been there for one year for graduate study (1994-95). The people are nice and friendly. Thanks The Netherlands from Canada.

This video makes me want to visit. Though my family left The Netherlands for America in 1627 We've maintain some of the cultural traditions, Probably because we've always belong to the Dutch Reformed Church. Through it we still have the catechism and Confession. We also get to meet visiting Dutch people and those who have moved here. When we moved to the South there weren't any so we went to the Presbyterian Church. There are more recently arrived Dutch communities in Michigan. They've been here since the 19th century and came bringing a more traditional denomination with them. Culturally we still resemble the home folks. We are hard workers and thrifty. We're very organized and maintain a standard of cleanliness that's hard to find among other people. Perhaps someday.
hard working and keeping your home clean (both literally and figuratively) are definitely old protestant values we cherish. Love to see it maintained by the people who left for America for better life.
As a dutch person, I can say that though we do have some great things as shown in the vid. Overall at-least as I see it, our country is not paradise. Rich history, great sights and sort of a mixed overall open-minded culture. People remain people, and there are off-course less great things around. Such as the country being dense in terms populated causes the price of houses to rice. Though all houses are made out of some sort of stone and sturdy, you do not get as much land or a huge garden as you would see in the united states, where there is to much land that is unused. The healthcare system is great, but there are some people trying to abuse that. People are nice but like i said people are people, some are open... some are very closed. Its a nice country to live but paradise on earth does not exist :p
I live here, and well, it kinda sucks. There's so little sunlight, so often overcast, or just raining. The landscape is so horribly boring. Only a few places look nice, most of it is just endless flattness, but not perfect flatness, no, flatness interrupted by lines of trees, and buildings scattered around. There's always people nearby. I go to a nice nature place, and, boom, tons of people who did the same thing. Way too crowded here, and most towns are utterly ugly with no character whatsoever.
Landscape isn't boring. You think it's boring because you are used to it. Same counts for the 'ugly' towns. I actually think most towns have their own character. They're all different. But in every country you will find people anywhere, unless you move to Russia, Mongolia, Canada, Australia or Namibia. Also the flatness may be boring to you, but it's actually very unique, since pretty much all other countries aren't flat.
It's really a beautiful and lovely country. And in this video it seems even much beautiful than when I visited it some years ago. It was winter, and horribly cold and windy. It was nice to see the snow, but the sky was always grey and the streets and fields covered with snow and ice. I must visit this country again in summer or spring, when it is colorful and joyful.
Haha well that was a one of a kind winter bevayse we have barely seen any snow in holland since 2012 :). Kom to Amersfoort if you have the time next time. Beautiful and one of the greenest cities in Europe. A very special mixture between old and new styles, with all kinds of festivals and events in the weekends :) yes i'm born and raised there, if you where still wondering ;)
+Afonso Amorim it is actualy very special if a blizzard happens in oure country. most time of the year it is grey, raining etc. don't come here for the sun, cuse you won't find it. but there are many other reasons to visit our country and everyone is welcome!
Mark R. I'll keep that in mind but I have to disagree about New York. NYC feels different from all other American cities with big avenues, everybody driving cars, no pedestrians, clean but empty boxy small downtown with big suburbs. Whereas, NYC is full of small alleys, cobblestone streets, old churches, old buildings, alive with diversity not only in the people, but the buildings and neighborhoods. The buildings are iconic, the street signs are iconic, the subway system is iconic, and each neighborhood is different. You have the artsy neighborhoods of lower Manhattan, and Brooklyn. The posh and classy neighborhoods around the central park. Then you have the real live immigrant neighborhoods with real authentic food and stuff (not tourist traps like the chinatown in london). You really have to be in NYC, experience all the little things to fall in love with it. If you just do the typical daily tour, then Yea that can be boring. I'm born and raised around this city and it is anything but boring.
dont like edam the cheese city go to there its close to amsterdam and hoorn and alkmaar on 1 hour is schiphol Edam is just awesome and iconic to netherlands not only because i live there
Wonderful to visit Holland again through your eyes. I visited in 1950, when Volendam was still an island in the Zuider Zee, and it was being made part of the mainland by the polders. Many years later, I had a friend who had been a child during the Nazi occupation.
We had the pleasure of visiting The Netherland last December, although we didn't get the opportunity of visiting places outside Amsterdam, we were totally awestruck by the beauty of this old Dutch city. We will come back soon!

There's also A LOT of post WW2 buildings and structures that are ugly and drab. The reason Rotterdam looks so new is because of the war: it was bombed then it burnt to the ground.
i get what you say, its easy to maintain old things in a country packed as densely with people as this one
I'm American and my gf is Dutch, and I recently got to go to the Netherlands and visit her family for the first time and I got to say, Dutch people are some of the kindest people I have ever gotten the experience to meet. The country itself is just so beautiful, I can't wait to go back. I guess it's kind of a coincidence my gf is Dutch because I have a lot of Dutch ancestors, so I've always been fascinated by the history and culture of the Netherlands. I was there for 2 months so I got to see a lot but I still have way more to see and experience. I would absolutely love to live there some day. Amazing video!
I visited the Netherlands in 2013. Best thing I've ever done. I fell in love with everything there. I still daydream about how beautiful it all is. I visited the Het Loo Palace, Amsterdam, Haarlem, Rotterdam and Delft. I hope to go back again.

It is amazing to see how most of the people in the netherlands can speak english quiet fluently.
It's the same in Norway , Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Greenland
It’s most of the Northern European countries. Here in the Netherlands we learn English at a young age (11-12 when I was that age, maybe even earlier nowadays) and the English movies/series are usually with subtitles instead of being dubbed. Plus loads of English music (in language).
@@yvonnewinters9699 I think straight away kids are learning English, since here In NL movies, TV,music and games are in English so they are exposed to it as soon as they are exposed to the dutch language. I think it's common in northern European countries since the language is so small that things are not translated and just have subtitles.
I have had conversations with dutch/Flemish kids as young as 8 in English.
Also true of Germans, and of the ScandinVian countries.

Warm greetings from the Netherlands. 🌷
Everyone is so fit and healthy. Everyone is riding bicycles. Its like a nation that I would design for a computer game. Absolutely perfect!

It seems he just showed the fairy tale sites not the grey apartment buildings and industrial estates etc lol.
only 0,01% of our country is tourist heritage stuff. the other 99,99% is just normal modern european residential and commercial buildings.

@@michaelgilbertluis8686 Hi Luis, are you one of this country's engineers?
Hello 👋
I really admire the Dutch for being able to deal with floods and building up their country.
Wonderful video,,, totally mesmerized by the way Dutch peoples lives in the most amazing way. Beautiful country and equally beautiful people. Thanks for uploading.
People, landscape, laws, cheese. Whatever is it. Everything is beautiful in this country. I wanna live there one day !
Its a nice country to live but paradise on earth does not exist :p
haha i already do
levi oldescheper lucky :)
Thank you for showing both modern and traditional of Netherlands life. What a fantastic travel guide you produce. 👍

A very special mixture between old and new styles, with all kinds of festivals and events in the weekends :) yes i'm born and raised there, if you where still wondering ;)
Thanks for the tips. I was there in winter 2010 and I thought that all that snow was usual every year.

Netherlands is so beautiful, hoping to visit one day.
If i can make a suggestion visit the Hague or Haarlem, instead.
Don't like Utrecht?

Yes Leiden is very nice and is the second biggest historical city in Holland.
I prefer the city Deventer because it is more quiet than Leiden but Leiden is more dynamic.
Thank you for posting this extraordinary video. In Tasmania, Australia, we had Dutch neighbours. They came to this country with relatively little, had an extraordinary amount of children, built up their real estate development business and retired multi millionaires. Just by working hard and consistently.
@Captain Brandon Horror Lover I have never been to Holland but I will remedy that shortly. There's much more as you say, to Holland than Dutch cheese and clogs!
@Captain Brandon Horror Lover Duchophile! There's a reason for that. See if you can figure it?
@Captain Brandon Horror Lover I will go all over - as far as my money will take me! Jokingly, I mean Duchophile - we will be the Duke and Duchess of Holland. It's a small place. How hard would it be to take over? lol
@Captain Brandon Horror Lover True!
@Captain Brandon Horror Lover Yes, send your email.
A very well balanced representation of Dutch culture. Very Informative.
Not wanting to be a negative nancy and I agree it was a nice vid, but surely not a very well balanced representation of Dutch culture, just a nice tourist-report of the Holland-part of our nation.
Perfect documentary! It’s a beautiful and inspiring country. Greetings from Brazil.
