      I think this is unbelievable but the OnePlus 8 yesterday was priced in a local online store in the UAE for an equivalent of 500 bucks which is even less than the pricings of the Indian market. At that price point this phone is really a win-win situation.

      that's so wrong.. y'all wanted the better camera, the ip rating and the wireless charging but as soon as OnePlus does provide all this, y'all don't wanna pay for it.. OP8 Pro might be the best Android phone at the moment, they didn't settle at all.. but if you wanna spend 400$ more to get the S20 Ultra, here ya go

    • @palody_en-ja
      @palody_en-ja 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @@mays7n the first OnePlus phone wasn't a flagship-level phone though. Even though the slogan says not to settle, they always made compromises to disrupt the existing pricing schemes.
      Like you suggested, there are other flagships out there, so at this price it's difficult for OP to capture mind share, especially with their comparatively weaker distribution channels.
      People are complaining because they wanted a value leader, a best-in-class but not necessarily the best phone. Their timing couldn't have been worse with the pandemic too, so let's see how this year's strategy plays out for them.

    • @whothou

    • @mays7n
      @mays7n 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@palody_en-ja Yeah I understand and partly agree. I just think that OP listened to the reviewers on youtube (as they are very interested in them) and those people always criticized OnePlus for their mediocre cam, no ip rating and no wireless charging.. they wanted to make a flagship and the tech youtubers are happy, I have seen about 20 reviews of the 8 Pro and people see it as the best allround smartphone of 2020.
      I understand they want to have a flagship but for me, this wouldn't be necessary. They should have priced the OP8 cheaper in order to keep these flagship killer qualities. So I am not really happy either with what they did but I think we should also value that the direct opponents of the 8 Pro are still more expensive.
      As you see, I am not that content cause they kinda messed up with the 8 but this guy said they settled which is just wrong cause the 8 Pro is by far the best OnePlus phone ever.

      @Dhanush - Totally with you on that. The OnePlus 3 was 400$ when the iPhone 7 launched at 650$ the same year. The prices go up significantly the more you nitpick on details... wich wasn't the case at the time, they were mostly only trying to slim things down.
      Cheap phones sacrifice screen and camera, that's where the nitpicking is. If Oneplus wants to be a "flagship killer", they can't do that, wich means they inevitably have to bump their prices too.

    Absolutely loved this sort of content, especially as an ex-economics student and now tech fan Im fascinated by what Oneplus are trying to do in terms of Price and region differentiation and how they will align that with their marketing and branding as well. I would love a video on Marketing (are they still a flagship killer?) when the Oneplus Z is announced or released and what that means for its competition both in NA/Western regions as well as Asia.
    Oneplus are honestly an amazing company for still being able to do what they do in the current climate and i expect big things for them even going into what looks to be a global recession and they will be much bigger if they can come out of it.
    Also the way I look at it is Oneplus 8 is meant to be like the Oneplus Pro just for those people who complained about WIreless charging, should've included a headphone jack and a normal notch (or even the pop-up camera) just to please that group of fans as well imo. Then it would've made more sense for product differentiation purposes.

    Honestly, I'm sticking with the OnePlus 7 Pro for one main reason: The all-screen display. But there are other notable reasons as well. Sure, I may lose an IP rating, but the pop-up camera is novel and fun to use, the sleek blue color never gets old, the 90Hz refresh rate is much more noticable over the 60Hz refresh rate than the 120Hz is over 90Hz and I managed to get the maxed out 256GB version with 12GB of RAM, which is now damn near impossible to find anywhere. The trade-in offer from OnePlus for this phone just isn't enough to justify me paying the still-large difference towards the $900 price tag for the newer OnePlus 8 Pro. Not only that, but having owned more than one OnePlus phone over the years, I don't MIND using wired charging for it. The battery life for the OnePlus 7 Pro is phenomenal to the point I can confidently use this thing as hard as I want and always have a comfortable amount of battery left over at the end of the day. Of course seeing as it also has Warp Charging, that's just another reason why I find it pointless to what, in my opinion, amounts to buying the same phone twice.
    And while the OnePlus 8 Pro offers wireless charging, it's just a novelty convenience for me in this case due to not really needing it at all. The IP rating isn't necessary because, having seen teardown videos, the OnePlus 7 Pro DOES have still have water resistance. They say the display on the OnePlus 8 Pro looks better than the previous one; but when it comes down to it, the OnePlus 7 Pro nevertheless has a quad HD display and is still very sharp. It's that quad HD display, 90Hz refresh rate and no notch or hole punch camera for an all-screen display that makes the OnePlus 7 Pro well worth keeping. Simply put, I would NOT recommend upgrading to the OnePlus 8 Pro from this. Otherwise, if you've got a OnePlus 6T or older or getting a OnePlus phone for the first time, THEN I'd say to get the OnePlus 8 (Pro). Bottom line is that I feel like the OnePlus 7 Pro seems to be underappreciated, considering how fast the company moved on to the 7T series and the 8 series without looking back. Suffice it to say, I'm skipping the OnePlus 8 and even the eventual 8T series this year. Maybe it OnePlus finds a way to bring back the all-screen quad HD display with no cutouts, notches or holes in it, then I'll consider upgrading. Otherwise, the Snapdragon 855 is plenty of power still in 2020!
