This bowl is lovely due to the milliput being exposed on both the outside and inside of the sides. Also I like your camerra work and thenk you for not wasting time by showing all of the sanding. All together a very nice video. Thanks
Am 68 years old "young lady" and came upon your channel after trying to find how to use Milliput for a totally different application. I wish i were 40 years younger and could pursue woodworking as a career as am so inspired by your beautiful bowl Good luck
Mike you are always tossing up new ideas. You have a very fertile Imagination. Very impressive. Terry downuder.I hope your house move is not too stressful.God bless
I think its a nice piece of work.I think I understand what youweant by the wood looking dirty. I think this little bowl has a lot of character and would find a good place in most houses. Well done Mike. Cheers
Hi Mike. Just taken delivery of a pack of brass swarf. Going to try to emulate your bowl over the next few weeks. Please wish me luck, and keep up the inspirational videos
Excellent and the very best of luck to you, Make sure the wood you use it on is very dry, you don't want it warping after you make it. Please let me know how you get on 😃
That rim turned out so attractive, I like how the aluminium showed up as squiggles in the dark Milliput. I see what you mean about the sycamore looking slightly dirty. From what I can see on the screen, it also is fairly plain, not much character of its own. I haven't seen a thumbnail indicating if you have done more of this type of rim, I hope you do revisit it!
Hi Susana, I have no plans to revisit it yest but I'm sure I will at some point, I have a list of ideas so long I may seen to start trying to do two per week 😀
Thanks Dick, hopefully I can keep improving with the editing. With regards to the bowl I'm happy with that as well. What are your thoughts on sycamore?
The bowl looks really good. Just before the still pictures when you were showing the bowl, I could see the grain on the inside looking "dirty" as you mentioned. I love using sycamore. Happy to report my pieces have so far had nice clean grain. I have worked with a lot of aluminium on the metal lathe. The metal may be soft, but the swarf can be sharp and a lot harder than my skin. LOL I have had more than my share of slivers of metal including aluminium, needing to be removed with tweezers or sharp pointed objects. Well done. Dave.
Thanks Dave, the few sycamore blanks I have had have all been from the same source so it could have just been the batch. I'll get some more from another provider and see how it goes. All the best, Mike
That looks really great! I have seen this done once before but the bowl was larger and the rim popped off as the wood moved. Jim Overton, I'm sure you follow him but he used to do loads with Milliput, suggests using 5 min epoxy as an additional bonder. I think making a deeper key slot.might also work on larger pieces. Either way, great work!
Thanks! Yes I know Jim, I've swapped a few emails with him and he follows the channel. Thanks for the tips, I'll keep them.in mind when I do this again 😁
@@MikeHolton Actually Mike, I'm going to correct myself as I just found the video I was thinking of. Channel is Twisted Crafts UK, video title - Woodturning - A Maple and Milliput Epoxy Bowl. The channel is dormant but what he tried to do was have Milliput inlay visible from both side but still have a wooden rim, it was the wooden rim that distorted and popped off and the finished article was more like your bowl. Sorry for the confusion, Best, Dave
Looks fantastic!!! Did you consider putting the just the Milliput on the rim itself first, and then pressing in the aluminum pieces once that was done? Just a thought for the future. Nice work!
Thanks Barb, I wanted to make sure the aluminium was all the way through and even, I thought this would be the best way 😄. Of course I could be wrong 😉
I'm curious about the Lilliput (spelling?) That kneading looks like a good workout! Since I'm an old lady 😅 I would probably use a rolling pin and roll, fold, roll, fold, etc.
I'm a new subscriber and am enjoying your channel. Question, I notice many of the blanks you start with are lovely round "perfect" blanks. Do you buy those blanks or is that how you process your green wood?
Beautiful work, i'm getting into wood turning and i have few questions: - is there a risk that one of the metal shaving would splinter during the turning? that would hurt.. - that bowl feels quite thick to me. is it because if it was thinner it would break, or for esthetic reasons? Thanks a lot :)
Hi Gregoire, yes the shavings can splinter off when you start cutting back and yes it can hurt, if you are worried about it you can put a glove on. The bowl is thick but they is to make sure it does not break, all the best, Mike 😀
Hello again! What is CA glue? I am new & don't know any terminology or products used in wood turning. Is wood turning all one word? Anyway, hope you don't mind me asking, you never learn anything if you don't. I am nearly 65 and am thinking of taking it up. Cheerio for now. Janet.
CA glue is also called SUPER GLUE / CYANOACRYLATE glue. It can be sprayed with an activator to set quickly. In the trade we use woodturning as one word but no-one would ever worry about it being used as two. Please feel free to ask any questions you like however at the moment I'm out the country on holiday so response time will be slower 😃 all the best, Mike

Thank you very much Jim, this is an old video and I have improved my camera skills a lot more since then 😀
Love the way the aluminium can still be seen in the milyput
Thanks Ashley, would have loved to try and get more in there but mixing was getting hard.
That bowl is beautiful. The black rim compliments the "dirtiness" of the sycamore. Good work!
Thanks Tara, I must make another one of these soon 😀
I appreciate you explaining the projects. And you use safety equipment.
Thanks Earl, I do my best, Mike 😃
Really like this one, Mike.
Well done, and thanks as always for sharing.
Have a great evening 🙂

Thankyou so much for taking the time to contact me. I really appreciate your comments. What are you looking to do with Miliput? I may be able to help.
Very unique bowl. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Thank you very much Vernon and thanks for your support 😀

I'd call that a success. Milliput should be very happy with this result.
Thanks Scott, I need to do more Milliput, not done one in ages.
Another amazing bowl you're amazing sir just awesome 😄
Thanks so much Troy but Mike is fine 😀
That turned out stellar good sir!🤝😎 congrats!
Thanks Mel 😊
I've no idea where you get the ideas from but, please keep them coming. Excellent finish Mike
Haha thanks, I have a very active imagination 😂
I have just subscribed as I love you imagination and skill. This bowl is is so novel.
Thanks Paul, this comment has just made my day 😃
Great job Mike.
Just found this, colour combination works well
Thanks Greg, one of my older videos but I still remember making this one so well.
how delightful !!
Thanks 🙏
Boa noite AMEI seu LINDO trabalho COM muiSUCESSO
Muito obrigado por sua devoção ao seu canal do TH-cam
The whole time you were mixing the putty, I was thinking "that will never work." But you made it come out beautifully!
Thanks! Must admit to having a few reservations at the same time 🤣
Wow
Thanks! 😀
Really good looking piece, gets the creative juices flowing.
Thanks! Glad you like it 🙂

You should be ‘chuffed with the way that’s come out’! Looks very smart indeed and your video editing skill are massively improved ❤️
Thanks Dick, hopefully I can keep improving with the editing. With regards to the bowl I'm happy with that as well. What are your thoughts on sycamore?
@@MikeHolton sycamore is a lovely wood to work, but it’s just another English light wood. I like me some exotics and colour 😁👍
Me too 😊
Very nice
Thanks Jim 😃
Thanks
Wow! This is my first ever thanks!!!! THANK YOU 😀
As an ex chef I might have used a rolling pin to mix the putty a bit like making puff pastry. Matt
Hi Matt, I never even considered a rolling pin 😀
Very NICE! Has an understated elegance. Dumb question, can Milliput be tinted?
Thanks Carl, yes it can be tinted but it's best to do it with powder colours 😀

Great piece, a question about the voids. Did the CA glue actually fill the voids and that was the only solution needed?
Hi Robin, yes they filled them in just fine 🙂
I'm curious about the Lilliput (spelling?) That kneading looks like a good workout! Since I'm an old lady 😅 I would probably use a rolling pin and roll, fold, roll, fold, etc.
Haha, it's not puff pastry 😂. Lilliput I believe is a fictional island, this is called Milliput 😀
@MikeHolton spell check changed it from my original milliput and I hadn't noticed. And, yes, I'm a fairly good pastry maker, too!

I get mine from eBay but I hear you can get it for free on key cutting shops 😀
