@@JCotto739 I imagine the fight was supposed to start with the bird intercepting the ship, the player fights it on the ship for a bit, then Kratos pulls a ratatouille and flys it into the realm room. Though in a way I do prefer the bird just sitting there hauntingly way in the background.

I think it's probably rendered whenever Kratos is near the house like a normal object. If I remember correctly when he gets Atreus from under the floor after the stranger fight you can get a really small glimpse of the red skirt that Kratos used to wear, which contains the blades. They totally are!! During the part of the game where you step into the light of alfheim there’s a part where your in the house and you see Atreus standing over his mothers wrapped body. If you turn on photo mode you can clip through the ground just enough to see that yes the blades wrapped in the leather sheet are there under the house at all times. I thought it was wicked cool to find once I knew they were there (after my first play through obviously)
they are! when kratos comes back for atreus after fighting baldur for the first time, you can see the red cloth sticking out. the camera even focuses on that area for a quick second when kratos closes the hatch before they leave their home.
I remember reading about the big crow at 7:50 and that it was originally planned in a boss fight but it never happened due to time constraints. I imagine that's why there's alot of hidden detail in the model even while it's sat so far away from the player.
It's a shame we had to fight the same troll 7 times... if we focused less on making things look realistic I think we could make much more impressive games. It would've changed God of War from a 10/10 to a 12/10

I've never actually played this game, but there's a ton of detail and a lot of really clever tricks that show me that the devs had a ton of fun making it!
Its fairly common for games to have a lot more detail than necessary, and to not cull some big things. Its typically a mixture of changes in plans and there being no real need to go back and remove/cull stuff if the game isn't hurting for resources.
It's wild to think that a game this gorgeous still has stuff like billboarding to save on resources, but it makes sense, because this one is clearly pushing the PS4. ... y'know, I got this on sale for $10 a few months ago, I REALLY need to play it
You really should, it’s one of the greatest games I’ve ever had the privilege to play. Doesn’t matter if you never played any of the others, it will still be fantastic. Some pieces of the story won’t hit you as hard, but nevertheless great game
The tattoo on Thor is for sure a reference to the "blood eagle", a form of execution where the lungs are basically cut out from the back and left hanging to resemble wings en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_eagle
If you've ever seen one of those optical illusions where someone paints an image on the floor which, when viewed at the right angle, makes it looks like there is a hole in the floor, that is basically how parallax occlusion mapping works. The difference is that in POM, the image is redrawn every frame to match the view angle of the camera.
@Eric Occcams5 It does reveal new things sometimes. It depends of how many idea changes the developers had and whenever they left the pieces lying around or not. Some games have a lot of stuff out of bounds, I recall Shadow of the Colossus has a lot of structures outside the map that are never seen during normal gameplay. That being said, if the developers choose to not show the players, its not canon/relevant to the lore of the finished game. Finding such things is mostly for nerdy curiosity's sake =)

I think thor's tattoo is the asgardian symbol and those two flashes of blue light were probably the flashes from his hammer in the secret scene but someone messed up so they accidentally play in the cutscence before the secret ending scene as well.
Seeing this stuff is so funny because even after all this time and even though modern video games look like movies, they're still essentially ocarina of time on the n64

I suspect what appears to be a weird layered eye socket on that seagull model is actually it's eyelids. It's a very detailed model so perhaps it was designed to be able to blink during a scrapped cutscene or something at some point.

For the bird... We were supposed to fight her as the first boss, but the idea was rejected, and while we're in the ship with hwo we came out of hellheim, we can see the bird from pretty close.
It has a lot of detail in the title screen because the game is fluid and has no camera cuts. So when you start the game the starting area is already loaded instead of going through a loading screen to get there. They do this a lot to achieve a fluid camera.
The GOW start screen makes the PS4 Pro fan kick into high gear. I always wondered why. Thanks to this vid showing the insane amount of info loaded, for something that IMO should be a light load on the system, now I know.

The reason why that huge bird, Hræsvelgr, is very detailed is because SMS was planning him to be a boss battle (I'm assuming during that part where you leave Helheim as the boat goes around him). He'll definitely be a boss in Ragnarok that's for sure.
Turns out I figured it out those 2 blue flashes are from the thor secret theme because when the lightning hits twice it flashes blue near the player so that's what that's for
I think the reason the main menu world is so large is because it's always on standby, so that if you start a new game the scene and level with Kratos and Atreus getting on the boat and going home can play seamlessly. I suspect that it just isn't fully loaded. Because this game is in one camera shot it is not a stretch to think that stuff would also get loaded into the level the further you go into the game
This is oddly one of the most nightmare fuel Boundary Break episodes I've seen. Like looking into the mouth of madness. Maybe AAA photorealistic games aren't meant to be seen this way.

Turns out I figured it out those 2 blue flashes are from the thor secret theme because when the lightning hits twice it flashes blue near the player so that's what that's for
I think the reason the main menu world is so large is because it's always on standby, so that if you start a new game the scene and level with Kratos and Atreus getting on the boat and going home can play seamlessly. I suspect that it just isn't fully loaded. Because this game is in one camera shot it is not a stretch to think that stuff would also get loaded into the level the further you go into the game
