Bruh, no one laid down for a long ass time and did motion capture for this. It’s easily animated. Thamur doesn’t move for 99 percent of the game so mocap is absolutely the most unnecessary thing they could’ve done with this. You could say that same thing about sock puppet motion capture for Jormungandr but obviously no one did it

I never really noticed that Thamur never even gets up. He was always just crawling, but he is so big that it seemed like he was walking. It makes sense, after all it seems that Freya's vines only reached the torso and he was moveless for a long time. It's also more clear why he didn't do much, as Freya didn't want to run the risk of killing neither Kratos nor Baldur there.
Looking at how huge Thamur and his hammer are, it's beyond impressive how Kratos and Atreus were able to move that even more with it being frozen! I hope there's an ariel POV of Kratos flipping the temple.

Faye, Atreus, Angrboða.. the dead ones in Jötunheim... none did that. The only thing that happened was a giant soul inserted on a big snake making it become a giant snake over a short time... Which didn't seemed interested in shrinking at will.. probably because it can't. And Angrboða grabdmother didnt shrunk either.. case in point I don't believe they wouldn't be able to conceive children of different sizes if they weren't able to.
The effect on the camera was designed keeping in mind the camera should never (in game) be that far from the player. Basically they didn’t give the effect a distance because the camera was never supposed to BE that far away.
Even in this perspective, I still can't for the life of me figure out where the heck Freya even was exactly in all of this. I couldn't even spot her once.

I imagine she quite literally posessed the giant corpse while protecting her "unconscious" body with her magic vines. That's why you hear her grunt when Thamur rips the chisel out of his head.
This is pretty sick. There are no crazy teleporting tricks here, the giant as well as the characters all move within their normal physical constraints in the environement. Any chance you can do the same with the Cronos battle in GoW 3?
I don't know if this is true but I think that the giant Thamur is much more enormous than the titan Chronos. I always thought after playing GOW 3 and the 2018 one that the titans are...in a way, a specific race of giants but from the Greece.

That shot of the world serpent taking out the giant is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in any game. Really neat to see how they pulled that off - thanks.
It's genuinely incredible what a bit of skillful camera work can do. This was a masterpiece of a game and you'd never guess that this is actually what you're playing on.
I like Kratos more in the 2018 game, i think they put too much emotion into him in Ragnarok, a lot of people love this type of dept, i like more the silent baddass Kratos who is still somewhat rude to everyone he meets

Interesting how the texture resolution gets lower the closer you get to the giant. Makes me think in the original fight scene at 5:22, the developers intentionally angled the camera upwards so you wouldn’t see the arm as much.

Looking back at the fight, there are a few seconds where the camera moves and you can see the low resolution texture on the arm. But nobody really notices or payed attention to that, because they cover it up by having a great action scene, so the focus is on Kratos & Baldur and not the arm.
Holy crap Kratos holding back the ring is put into new perspective from this angle. He’s holding back the entire giants arm pushing back against him like it’s nothing.
Man... camera man really is the goat. Filming all of this and feeling his guts being torn apart from the punch shockwaves. He kept his composure. 10/10.
This is nuts in the best way. With the fixed camera over Kratos's shoulder, there's no sense of just how huge these things truly are. When I first read the suggestion that Thamur is larger than Cronos, I thought there's no POSSIBLE way that could be true... now I see it. We just had a bad angle. And Jormungandr! I knew he was huge, but in free-camera recordings you realize the game gives you no notion of how freaking FAR AWAY he is when he talks to you. A very giant Giant indeed.

This is a perspective that we would have seen in the previous GOD of War games. I believe Ragnarok Kratos looks better and fits its design choice but I feel like the old God of War did a better job making the giants feel more out of this world.
I would say the snake (the name is hard to write) felt MASIVE, from the slow way he did everything, his body having algae from not moving and seeing parts of his body in the lake really made it fell like an ancient being above everything. I kinda of whised we had gotten more of that in ragnarok

I wish Ragnarök had more massive scale enemies like this. Though ones that you actually fight. This proves that they could do it. But for some reason the only massive enemy was Garm, and he wasn't nearly this big.
The camara angles can do wonders once you realize that in aerial perspective it looks surprisingly different. When you do those scenes you can think in how to use the least amount of resources but still looking epic

Never realized how involved the Gigant realy was in the final Bossfight.
