If I were to guess, I'd say including the whole body would have been an artifact of RE VII which was in full VR, and it certainly helps with things like motion captured animation. It's also possible that at some point you were able to move your viewpoint around with the right stick or something during cutscenes, where you would see your body if you looked downwards.
@WindTheBrave that's a giant stretch, dev cubes are used for triggers or to hold information for animations or cutscenes. the dev cube under the fire was probably just for the cutscene, that character definitely died. Character models often have default animations that always play like breathing or blinking, it means nothing.
Dude that last bit with Ethan walking down the road watching his daughter... do you think that's like.... an easter egg or in some way canon? cause that's trippy as fuck. The fact that they took the effort to have him face track his daughter seems like such an unnecessary detail for what it is.
I've said it before to peeps but I think they're keeping it open to interpretation. it's either symbolic of him passing the torch over to his daughter, literal in that he is alive or Alternatively he's alive to Rose, in her memories like the mould allegedly does (which I think is most likely)
@@alphapunks144 Well, we already see Eveline still exists in Ethan's mind... somehow. I guess it is unclear if mold can survive after the Megamutamycete is destroyed at the end of the game.
It's possible they just used his model and it's not really him, but the player wouldn't know it's Ethan's model since it's far away. Who knows, we'll find out probably in the DLC or next game.
Idk if NPCs in this game face track normally since I haven't played it, but it's possible it's just default NPC behavior to track the face of other NPCs that are nearby.
The reason why Ethan’s full body is rendered is primarily for casting shadows, but also because you can look down at his body at any time. The upper half of his body is rendered above everything to ensure the viewmodel doesn’t clip into walls. Also, just a guess, the reason why Ethan’s legs are twisted during the Salvatore cutscene could be because they animate Ethan’s body turning around, but leave the IK target positions for each leg in place. This would cause the IK system to reposition the bones from the feet, hips and lower spine to try to get his feet to stay in the same position from before his body rotated.
4:48 i discovered that by accident when i was playing. I got a glitch where the cutscene was off sync and late. so the reflection cutscene went off in sync, but the game was late. Meaning that the audio and voice lines are synced and tied to the pre-rendered mirror cutscene. Not the actual animation happening in front of you.
OH MY GOD WAIT There's a "deleted" scene in the game files, a flashback with Ethan and Mia in the bedroom talking. I've heard that it was supposed to be included between the Eveline vision and Ethan waking up in the Duke's carriage, so it makes full sense for a render of the bedroom to be under the foggy place where Ethan sees Eveline. That's so freaking cool. Thank you for sharing!
Quick thought since you mentioned it in the video, but Lady D's AI gets messed up any time the camera is displaced from Ethan's position. So it's possible that's why she gets hung up on door frames. Another reason could be that a door needs to load in before she can play her door opening animation, so she's basically just waiting for an object that is currently not active. Another odd finding is that Chris Redfield can be found way out of bounds for some reason in the opening cutscene after the park skybox loads in. He's frozen in place holding an invisible baby.
15:12. That looks like the house which appears in a flashback cutscene when Ethan and Mia had a conservation about their daughter. It happened very early, right after Ethan got knocked out by a squad member.
I think it totally makes sense to have the body. It gives the animation relastic „weight“. Also, if you decide to change the first person camera in a cutscene which would might reveal body parts, it is already there

I wonder about implications of putting Ethan in the ending scene. Like, is it kind of a ghost of Ethan watching over Rose? Or we have a pet semetary situation going on here 🤨
I believe that Ethan showing up in the ending scene is for a “just in case” scenario. Capcom saw that people didn’t really like Ethan because in 7 he was very shallow and one-dimensional. It never occurred to me that that could be Ethan during the final scene. I really accepted that he was dead. In fact, bringing him back dampens the impact of his sacrifice.
My thoughts about the body being there at all times. A: They added a third person camera option eventually. So maybe that was always planned. B: Like someone else said, it could have just been a remnant of RE7's VR mode, and planned RE8 VR mode. C: Maybe Photo Mode was originally gonna let you fly the camera around like a normal photo mode, also leading to why you can easily re-enable Ethan's head.
Yesss!! Since I finished RE8 I was waiting for you to do a Boundary Break of it. Btw at the start you say a lot that you don’t see the body and you actually do in several cutscenes. The only thing I can think of that would be purpose to a full mo-cap body with no head would be an update that's in VR or a VR version to be sold later.
The reason why the whole body is left in is because often in first person when your body gets thrown around or view changes in cutscenes, you CAN actually see your body move in and out of the camera frame, its for the first person immersion, it would be very weird if you never ever saw parts of your body from a FP perspective.
I was convinced the reflection of lady d on the mirror was a cutscene because my game had the strangest bug. The cutscene on the mirror was a second ahead of actual lady so she would yeet the mirror in the reflection before the mirror would actually get thrown lol.

The Kingsington Palace was also in Devil May Cry 5, which I think I was one of the first people to have found that palace when that game came out.
I've been waiting for this since Resident evil village came out. Such an amazing, awesome, wonderful person you are!!
I played this in vr, and I thought i saw ethans body all the time. Def couldnt get away with floating arms or legs
I was wondering the entire time playing through this game if you were gonna cover it because it seemed like a good candidate. Thanks for your hard work it did not disappoint!
I was hoping to see that door Lady D goes to after she picks up the wine. That area always make the enemy nearby music whenever you’re near the door.
Really enjoying your content. I'm honestly baffled by a) how you manage to get a free camera working or b) the reasons for a lot of the stuff you've discovered.
Not to preen but just for context, I've been a C++ developer for about 30+ years and know a lot about 3D graphics and game development. Some of the stuff you have found is just weird.
Thanks for sharing it.

When me and my friends played through this game the prerendered video actually had a delayed start.
The funny part was when she threw the mirror but was still peacefully talking on the phone in the reflection. I wish we could have caught it on video...
Wow, after the reveal that Ethan is the one in the final custcene, Wolfy has got to watch this video now haha
One thing is sure, if the Duke got angry, he'd smash any enemy or boss in minutes. Great video as always
This episode is one of your best, which is no small feat. Hope TH-cam quits screwing you over and gets you back up to full interaction!
I remember sending you a picture of that dev cube under the building that catches fire on twitter all the way back on May 15th. Glad the video turned out so well.

Great video dude!
You should do a Boundary Break on Haunting Ground, the game always intrigued me with how everything works. Since the game has fixed camera angles, there could be some interesting things and tricks that could be hiding.

Who's that Pokemon?! Bulbasaur!
A year later, now we know why Ethan's full body is animated the entire game. 3rd person mode. :)
@Shesez Easier VR version is very likely the reason the entire body is rendered. Easier to look over rhe shoulder if the shoulder is already visible in world
This is always so fascinating. I love these looks behind the curtain of game development.
Sorry to hear TH-cam is being weird with your channel, I absolutely love your content, and it's cool you're diversifying with stuff like Twitch! Streaming is pretty fun lol
That up close look at and pass through of the witch is the scariest part of the whole game.
Thank you so much for another excellent video Shesez! I always wondered about everything you cover in your vids! I had guessed Lady D would have been programmed after Mr. X, thanks for confirming! The Duke's cigar is just a copy of one you already find as a collectable item in Heisenberg's area, again saving on asset creation time. Please keep up the superb work!
its LITERALLY ethan at the end. she might have just discovered the hive mind link with the mold because ethan is reaching out to her. she probably was like OMG STOP but the driver probably doesnt even see ethan
Would love to see boundary break for the various hitman games, I feel there must be some secrets
The only thing I can think of that would be purpose to a full mo-cap body with no head would be an update that's in VR or a VR version to be sold later.
Wonderful video Shesez. That cold open where Ethan flew into the screen was 🤌🤌👌👌
awesome video Shesez! thanks for all the sweet behind-the-scenes content, and sorry the algorithm’s been screwin’ with your channel.
Lady d has her own walk cycle tho, she doesnt change+ theres a spot where if you stand there, she just walks past you
The reason why the whole body is left in is because often in first person when your body gets thrown around or view changes in cutscenes, you CAN actually see your body move in and out of the camera frame, its for the first person immersion, it would be very weird if you never ever saw parts of your body from a FP perspective.
I feel like a boundary break on one of the Lego Batman games would be cool have you done that already?
I feel like this channel need more support.
It’s a good channel.
Good stuff Shesez
The last part was a nice touch. To have ethan himself look at his daughter
The duke often displays items you come across, heisenburgs cigar is an item u can sell to the duke
I was convinced the reflection of lady d on the mirror was a cutscene because my game had the strangest bug. The cutscene on the mirror was a second ahead of actual lady so she would yeet the mirror in the reflection before the mirror would actually get thrown lol.
I’d love to see a follow up about the Doll House, and the final part of the game where you play as Chris
I have patiently waited until I've beaten the game to watch this video, glad to be here now
Wow man I was wondering what happened to u! Glad ur back! Great video bro! 🙏👍
The mo cap probably helps make the camera motions feel real.even if you dont see them, its helps.
RE: the cigar... You actually find the cigar as a trophy and sell it to him. It was Heisenberg's cigar. That's why the house sigil is there.
