I've never had an issue with waiting for the game. I'm willing to wait for great things! And i love supporting a company that actually cares about its people!

The only thing that has ever pissed me off about Hinterland was how Raphael recently closed a thread about the cougar. Someone posted a poll about whether or not Hinterland should pull the cougar or keep it in the game while they make improvements on it, and Raphael closed it with a comment saying that 'it was not open for debate'. I'm sorry, what? Maybe they were getting a lot of unnecessarily harsh feedback from some people, but to start taking it out on other community members is something I find completely childish and unacceptable.
Its beyond me how they decided to start working on a new game when they are far behind on their other projects.
If they don't start working on new games, they will have nothing to release when they decide they are done with TLD.
Given the current climate with video game developers, and while it sucks that Hinterland's initial timeline has fallen so far behind, I'm ok with them chugging along at their own pace.
To me, so long as when the update does hit, it's not full of bugs and issues, it's worth the wait. And I say that because I am so fricking tired of games and updates being rushed tf out, only to fall flat on their faces because it was rushed, wasn't properly tested, and fans are then pissed.
And while it is disappointing that Hinterland isn't as engaging as they once were, I also understand that constant updates about the state of development doesn't help either. Because if they run into an issue or delay, some of the community will be busting out the pitchforks and torches.
Damned if Hinterland talks to the community, damned if they don't.
I'm just here chilling, sipping on my herbal tea and munching on fish waiting for this blizzard to end so I can leave this fishing hut and get back to my garage :D
Even if they take their time and test thoroughly for bugs, some may still slip through the cracks. They won't find them all until after release. It's impossible to find them all.
@@ToastyBits Which is totally fine, Hinterland isn't pushing out crappy half assed updates like other companies are doing.
The amount of bad releases and buggy updates being rushed out by other companies is just sad.
Hinterland has its issues but half assed updates to the game isn't one of them and I'm happy to see it and happier to wait. To me, longer waiting means they're taking the time to let it cook.
Cougar update has not been very well received :(
The new zone is absolutely amazing and a delight, full of detail and obviously a labor of love so i think its unfair to say the update is bad. The cougar is ass 100%
I love this game and I just really want to play all the new stuff. I don't mind waiting for content. I just like to see updates of what's happening to keep my hype-train going. Thanks for the update!

I hope the best for this game ive purchased it on Xbox in 2017 steam for my dad in 2020 and switch in 2024 it's got me thro the darkness days of my life. Plus my tax money helped fund them❤

Waiting for Nintendo has gotten old. I understand Hinterland has it's issues, and Nintendo has this submission process, but the wait has been long.
I'm patiently Waiting and I know Hinterland will deliver a good product. I just want to pay already!
The switch port should be called green hell with snow. It’s been completely unsupported for 2 years (perilous constraint).
They’ve even delayed it again, it was meant to be “second half of June”, now it’s “later this summer”. The switch port is now clearly a cash grab, 2 years of no updates and no support is unacceptable
It was originally going to come out next week. The delay was 1 additional week. A lot of the issues have been on the Nintendo side. They have 2 updates for Switch coming in the next 2 months. All you have to do is be patient and actually understand the circumstances.
@@ToastyBits Here's a counter with a real life example. Why dont Hinterland make the "nintendo problem" their problem and not the owners of the game. They paid the same price as other platforms and should expect the same level of support. If you honestly believe the "nintendo" excuse I am baffled. But ok I'll play along.... so why has there been no update in 2 years? If the only problem was nintendo then we'd be getting updated a month or 2 after the other platforms at the latest.
Here's what is actually happening; the game was an obvious suprise success and Hinterland is a victim of such unexpected success (well the poor management of it). Hinterland have little to no internal resources dedicated to the switch port, if it did we wouldnt be so far behind in content. Hinterland could plan updates to compesate for a delay with nintendo like most other game devs do.
Now an example of how it should be done! BeHaviour (ok they arent perfect), too had an unexpected success with DBD. This game has launched across all platforms as well. After a 3-6 month teething period, this game's content launches across all platforms simultaneously.
Two examples of unexpected success by two different canadian indie devs. But only one has managed it's success well and hasnt suffered from diseconomies of scale.

With a game like this Hinterland has to get better at communicating, they risk losing fans en masse
I think the process is starting. We know the dev diary comes out next week. Hopefully, it also acknowledges the communication problem.
maybe it’s just my old ps4 but my game keeps on crashing when i enter a house or any place that needs a loading screen. i swear its like once an hour if i do a long play session.
I hear some of the console versions are crash heavy. I hope they can fix that.
And still there is no episode 5. Despite they promised it what now...5 years ago.
I don't follow them for a while now. Ever since they established the trend of dragging the hell out of updates. Only one thing comes to my mind why such slow progress and no updates. I think they hit creative blockade. I think they have no clue how to finish a story mode. And, it make sense. The quality of the story drops with each episode. Episode 4 was...in best case mild...in worst case, bland and boring filled with a lot of time wasters and fillers.
The story was episodic in nature. They announced episode 5 was going to be released last year, but they delayed that and the release of the expansion updates. Episode 5 is now expected to release at the end of this year. If you don't follow them and their announcements, you would never know that all of this has been delayed for a year now. Clearly, you didn't actually listen to this video about the nature of delays. They have a lot on their plate, which is why they are slow.
@@ToastyBits LOL. Why every time somebody talks about the delays of Wintermute, do they get the same answer refering to EP 5 of the DLC? It is, sadly, the truth that Wintermute should have come out years ago. That's why many people laughed about Hinterland promising the releasing of a 5 Part DLC in only one year.
If you don't follow them since the beginning, you would never know that The Game was announced as a Story Survival that comes in 5 parts. Years ago they started overworking the first 2 episodes, and then for some reason starting to develop the survival mode (wich originally was more or less a side thing you could do) and for some reason then, going all in on survival mode. Later they raised the price a little bit (as it was announced) even later, they splitted the game in two parts and raised the price again to almost double. So, now you have to buy two parts of the game (Story and Survival Mode) for double the price each and you will get a game wich has not even one of it's game modes finished, has alot of Bugs. And that from a Developer who bans every bad comment on the steam forums about that. Can't hold even one promise and even insulted Commentators (for wich he appologized for, at least sort of, to be fair).
Clearly, you didn't actually listen to the whole story and only referring to "Tales of the long wait". They obviously have a lot of delays and promises on their plate, that's why they are disliked so much. And are the reasons why they ban so much people in their forums and on steam. They had more than double of the comments before they startet banning everybody who puts out a negative comment about heir yearlong delays of promised stuff, people paid for.
I do agree with every single point u made. Thats why it is so funny to me how some people who payed for game since kickstarter are getting mad after 10 years because game is not done yet. TLD is huge game as u said and hinterland is small indie studio working on multiple games. The reason I understand it is because like u ive done game dev and i know how much time goes into it. I love the long dark and I dont mind waiting but thing that i do is lack of communication. All I would like is just more communication and transparency whit community even once a moth would be nice. It dosent have to be a teaser or trailer or anything just a state of development where things are wand where they will be going. Since they announced TFTFT i knew there was no way for them to finish that in one year so I expected delays in advance. They could pull it of in 1 year if they had like 80% it already done. I dont mind delays all m asking for is more communication with community. Just so we know where and how things are.
No doubt HL has the right to deal with unruly or outright abusive community members but tbh I think there should also be a space to complain in peace lol. Low key tired of HL fanboys descending down on us negative nellies even in spaces where the probability of HL employees seeing the complaining is quite low (i.e.tld modding discords). The updates ARE taking forever, unfortunately! Raph HAS been really bitter about the cougar mechanics reception! There IS a very high possibility that my dearest wife safehouse customization will only be back from war in a year or so! 😂

Hinterland (or Lazyland) is lazy. They are developing more and more slowly, they took quite a lot of money for DLC. They were supposed to deliver the goods-game, within a year, 1.5 years passed and they gave 2/3. They don't work with modders, they could hire, a true fan can work for free if their work is in the game, although a good employee deserves to be paid. Fortunately, Project Zomboid is growing and The Indie Stone is an example of how a game studio should work
It doesn't help much either when you see that HL barely updates existing news sources like in the expansion roadmap; where they say each update would roll out every 4-5 weeks while it's certainly not like that.
It was 8-10 weeks originally, but I agree. They really needed to update that. Someone that doesn't see that they backtracked on that could claim false advertising.
