  • Part 2 of 2. This is the process I use to remove a V6 3.0 engine from a early Mazda Tribute / Ford Escape. I have done this at home without a hoist and a good set of basic mechanics tools.

    I have to remove a gearbox on my tribute, do you think dropping the box and motor together is easier than splitting the two in situ? I have a hoist in my garage also.

    • @killawattgarage
      @killawattgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To split the engine and transmission you will need to remove the transfer box to gain access to all the bolts. This means that the both drive shafts will need to come out and the exhaust manifold flanges, which can be a pain. But if you have a hoist and a transmission jack/stand then just the transmission would be my choice (the transmission is quite heavy). Let me know how it goes and thanks for the comment.

Will a later model (2005 +) engine with a VIN of "1" fit in a 2003? The only difference I've see from researching the internet is that the 2008-2011 engines got a horsepower boost from 200 to 246. • @killawattgarage
      @killawattgarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I broke an exhaust stud during filming this video and have done it plenty of other times too. Make sure you use a 6 point socket and if needed a breaker bar. If you access to a blow torch, heat it up as well. If the link pin nuts won't came off and you use can't use the torx fitting in the head of the stud to lock it in place then unbolt the strut from within the engine bay and remove them as well. Haven't ever had issue with the driveshaft, but you could try undoing it at the other end and removing the complete shaft with the engine and transmission.

    What a pity its called "Early". We need mental telepathy to know what years this refers to. Across TH-cam, these engine swap vidos all seem to omit years. Then there is no shot or video of the front of the car, nor is there a link to that "first video" which is difficult to find on youtube. This might be clear and consise to those who already know what years it refers to, of course it makes you feel like an idiot
    that you don't know what is taken for granted you know here.
    So no, its not clear and consise , it a great video if you already know this vehicle and probably need to see this video either.
    This video misses all the basics that or course, you are meant to be a bloody mind reader.
    Just how high off the ground do you need to get the car?
    What is the height of the engine sitting on the ground.
    Just how much does it weigh?
    Lots of missing essential info for this job.
