    Great guide. I play hardcore and have some tips.
    Stoneskin totem gives a ton of mitigation, very similar to the amount of mitigation that earthbound kiting does, and it's a bit safer to not run around like that in hardcore. So I prefer just using stoneskin totem.
    Also the damage reduction granted by a shield is huge and will often outweight the damage bonus from using a 2 hand.
    Keep your mana high to be safe. I rarely ever shock or even searing totem. Just keeping up lightning shield while resetting your totems will eat away at your mana enough. If you're also trying to bolt, shock, and searing totem every fight, you will be either wasting time drinking or risking being at low mana when you get in a tough situation and need to heal or earthbind and ghost wolf away.
    Also stoneclaw is your friend when dealing with more than one mob or accidently pull. It doesn't work really if you have any threat, so I recommend combining it with /cancelaura Lightning Shield - otherwise if a mob hits you once and triggers lightning shield, they'll start off with too much threat on you for stoneclaw to work.

    Couple things about your hamstring kiting. you have to factor in all ranged mobs as nullifying the advantage, and add in significant frequency of tight spots where kiting even within a 10 yard radius isnt feasable due to mob density, walls, or water. Though very difficult to give a high confidence estimate on, these are going to push the advantage down quite a lot. A rough guess imo is down to 20% damage mitigation by kiting overall. Also, I know that at least sub level 20 searing totem is more efficient dpm than lightning shield. You get at least 3 fireballs for 10 dmg each and potential to crit for 15 for 25 mana before a mob dies. Searing totem pulls away even more if earthbind kiting.

    • @k1kk0ssbm
      @k1kk0ssbm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can get ranged mobs to engage in melee with you by getting close to them tho

    • @bunnztv9315
      @bunnztv9315 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for posting this comment, it really matched my own experience as well. To add to your point, the Earthbind ticks don't work the same as hamstring application. It's periodic effect rather than static area of effect.
      I also want to mention to anyone reading this that health is its own resource, preventing some health loss at the cost of significant mana loss will not minimize down time between fights. Nor make you safer (I play on Hardcore, not normal).

    • @bunnztv9315
      @bunnztv9315 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Specifically referring to reapplication of shocks or lightning shield when not stopping a massive cast, autos stand for such a huge portion of total damage that making sure you have mana after a fight is more important so you minimize downtime

    Smashed the fuck out of that like button.
    I decided out of the blue to ditch my other two chars and start a Shaman, since I wanted to aim long term (I prefer healing end-game content), and I fell in love with the Shaman; this is the most toolboxy, flexible class I've ever played and I love it. I feel like you have to constantly think about how to maximize your efficiency and you have solutions to a ton of different problems.
    I heard you mention the earthbind kiting in your stream and I've been using rockbiter/2h, and you can feel the efficiency improve drastically - it even gives you time to restore your mana better if you time your lightning shields properly.
    I did roll Resto Shaman based on Melderon's guide, but I'm probably going to respec into the 2h Enhancement build to kite Solo content better.
    Keep doing what you do man, your content is epic!~ I hope you make some non-class related guides in the future.

    I'm really digging your series. Some of this stuff is pretty daunting, honestly. I started playing in TBC and never did any of the tricks you've mentioned in your guides, such as the sit macro, front stab/shred, etc. All the APM seems super complex. I'm guessing that unless you're going for the fastest leveling speed possible, such tactics aren't really necessary for success.

    • @milanvans9586

      Don't worry that won't work on Classic. That is for private servers only. If it would work on Blizz servers they would patch it straight away since it's way too OP.

    • @Gunbudder
      @Gunbudder 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      i don't think the kiting is as imperative as he says. having said that, the trick REQUIRES a swing timer (or perfect timing in your head). You want to do a circle around your earthbind. while strafing, you want to swing once, then strafe away to be out of range of the mob. when you see your swing timer coming up for the next swing, you dip in for another hit. If you do it right, you should NEVER see the "out of range" red text, and the mob should hit you right when you hit it, and not any other time. Its kind of a pain in the ass for grinding to be honest, and you will probably get sick of it and start face tanking.

    Wow i learned a lot, ive been using dagger + shield with rockbitter, because i thought that windfury adds 20% 3x crit chance + normal crit which equals (1 + ( 0.4 * wf attacks) (1 + crit chance) which should be around 1.6x normal dmg with chance to overkill mob, vs rockbitter which almost double normal attack power with strength totem and I thought that would be more consistent ~2x normal dmg.
    After getting lvl 40 and storm strike i decided to lookup a guide because i thought two hander must be faster with stormstrike, so i ended up here :)
    Really nice tutorial.

    Your videos on the topic is awesome.
    I'm getting closer to my decision..
    What I would like to see is.. perhaps too much work..
    But here it goes;
    A video where you lay out the questing for 1-60 for each class, but focus more on the rewards and gear part.
    Where do I go for weapons, what quest chains do I start, what dungeons do I do and at what level should I consider it?
    What about armor pieces?
    Make it class specific..
    What dungeons are relevant for a shamans gear? What zones can I skip?
    A bonus; what is the best mobs to farm for gold/mounts as each class?
    What about farming for the rare legendary world drops?

    If you're using a 2H-weapon, why would you put any points into Shield Specialization? Even if you think the mana increase from the other talent is very small, it still seems more economically rational to put points there. With Shield Specialization they seem to be totally wasted (unless I'm missing something).

    Some thoughts on 2h progression:
    Illusionary Rod
    => SM Library, you might upset some caster group mates, but it is a significant upgrade if you were unlucky with corpsemaker, I couldn't get one with 4 kraul runs, and if you build a group were you heal, no one should have an issue with it either, plus there's no guarantee you'll get your hands on Ravager or MM in armory/cath
    The Pacifier
    Drops from a rare in alterac mountains. Might not be soloable before ~ lvl35 even though it has lvl32 req, can be found on the ah though. 4.00 speed is insane as well as the stats
    The nicker drops in lbrs, not in dm
    I struggled with my shaman at late 20s/early 30s due to poor luck as far as weapon drops were concerned (corpsemaker :( ) , so yeah, maybe buy a decent green if cm doesn't work out for you.

    One thing I feel many shaman guides hate on is spirit for leveling. In my opinion it is a very strong stat, and it's worth picking up such items in situations where it's normally avoided. Your shocks in particular while leveling will always do more damage than stormstrike, even when stacking strength and agil gear. Also it cuts down on your mob killing time as you are allowed to use more of your spells, which are the real meat and potatoes of your damage. Stamina is only useful for world pvp, you will rarely be in a situation where stacking stam will change the outcome in a pve encounter.

    Love the earth bind kiting strat, I'll be honest though I think the reason why people don't use it so much is because it can be tedious to do it over long periods of time, when just staying out of the 5 sec rule and then healing when appropriate gets the job done the vast majority of the time. Still this strat is great for elites or dealing with lots of mobs at once.

    Shammy guide, halfway through, damn let me find that Unbreakable video on TH-cam. Checking the video being hit hard with nostalgia. I'll roll an Orc Shammy in Classic. I've played Alliance during Vanilla. (Dwarf Paladin) So Horde during classic only seems fitting. And Unbreakable has been the Shaman during Vanilla days. So let me see if I'll enjoy it. I do remember fighting Shammy's in PvP in the vanilla days. And they have always been a massive pain in the ass.

  • @Ezzekiel73
    @Ezzekiel73 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    My only complaint is a personal one. I highly, highly, HIGHLY prefer to dip into Resto early to get Nature's Guidance. I make sure to get Imp Ghost Wolf by 20, then filter in as many talent points to get Nature's Guidance since +hit% is incomparable in value to anything in early Vanilla (i.e. leveling up, just hitting 60 and gearing up, etc.)
    I cannot count how many times I've died to both players and mobs because too many spells/hits didn't land and that even 1 would have changed the tide of the battle. Besides, having early healing spells makes it a bit easier to heal dungeons
    Finally, this entire guide is rather good, but it's under the assumption you're going to speed level and endlessly grind and never do anything else. A good guide for a PvE server/low pop realm with little focus on PvP. I usually encourage people who are leveling on a PvP server that has a decent population to consider choosing more PvP oriented talents (Elemental Warding, Eye of the Storm, Guardian Totems, Healing Focus, etc.) so you stand a better chance against the inevitable.
    Me personally, I PvP a lot, so they're always talents I highly consider to help give me the edge. To me, PvPing while leveling is some of the most enjoyable PvP there is. Every level feels different as you feel yourself get stronger and other players have or don't have certain spells that change the game.

    33:27 Imp Lightning Shield over Anticipation... every time. Making your most efficient spell that much stronger is a no brainer over 2-3% dodge.

    • @Rave.-
      @Rave.- 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      "slightly more damage": 15% damage increase on a skill is one of the larger talent damage buffs. 5% per point is nothing to scoff at. This is vanilla we're talking about. This is going to stack multiplicatively with Stormstrike as well.

    • @Rave.-
      @Rave.- 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And just to beat the dead horse of "what if" here, as a Shammy tank, that's 15% more threat from LS. So no, not even taking dodge over that either.

    • @donskiver
      @donskiver 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@evoknz no dual wielding in vanilla. But you just needed the biggest slowest 2h you could get your hands on with windfury and stacking crit. Using stormstrike you could triple crit on windfury and then toss an earthshock and melt faces. The unstoppable force is a good weapon for that.
      In PvE, it can also work but you need a good tank because your damage is so spikey you can easily pull hate. A lot of times I'd accidentally pull hate and would just spam lesser healing wave on myself until the tank could pull hate back. It was fun. 😁

    • @donskiver
      @donskiver 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@evoknz evoknz in all honesty, most raids want resto shaman for mana tide totem. When I raided, I was lucky to be in a guild that had more than enough geared healers that I didn't need to respec resto every week. I did however, need to have healing gear with lots of int so that I was at least competent when spamming lesser healing wave. I wasn't that worried about tier loot for my shaman since t1 and t2 stuff was geared towards resto and I was more into PvP with my shaman. (My main was a warlock that I got burnt out raiding with).
      As for PvP, my damage was hot and cold. Since I depended on windfury procs and those procs critting, I could sometimes top the chart or other times be near the bottom. It was all about how lucky I was. I imagine if I had better gear with enough crit stacked, my dps would have been more consistent but as it was it was very bursty.
      But that suited me just fine since it was like gambling for me and it was a big rush when I had a hot streak seeing all those big numbers fly lol.
