Just found you, new sub- just read your description: 100% support you, TH-cam & instagram as bad as each other - forcing you to post constantly and to get engagement otherwise you just don’t get seen. Really killing the casual poster. So I’m with you, good for you- do what works for you and feck the system 😄 great content and look forward to seeing how you get on. I’m thinking to sell my Sony gear as it’s too big and too expensive so interested in M43, low light and speed/autofocus is my concern coming from full frame . Anyway….. look forward to your next video - whenever it is 😄
Glad you agree with me but lots don't but I don't give a flying lol. M43 has gone forwards in leeps and bounds in the last few years and in my opinion at the front when it comes to camera tech. 7.5 stops ibis 50 and 80mp raw high res images lots lots more , it was a big step for me to sell up but after this weekend on dartmoor , I know I made the right decision . What fun that camera is. Thank you for watching.
I am 72 years old, and I recently gave all of my heavy Canon equipment to my granddaughter. I bought a Canon PowerShot ELPH 360 HS Digital Pocket Camera. I just shoot wide angle shots now. Good luck with your new camera equipment. I really enjoy your TH-cam channel and will continue to watch it. Take Care!
Thank you, Dan.. I had a small sony point and shoot ,I gave it to my wife to use because I got the Panasonic lx100 for me , now I've sold the lx100 , I'm going to take the sony back 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Good to hear you are sticking around.. Thank you for watching
Good decision to make a clean break. I have both (FF & MFT), and it is my MFT I grab going out the door. I then feel guilty for not using the FF stuff enough, but my back thanks me.
I went out yesterday to try the om-5 for wildlife photography, I went to my usual place and it was a joy walking round with such a light system ( om-5 / 100-400mm) I could get to places I otherwise could not go because of the kit I was carrying.
Just found your channel. I’m some years older than you and yes, I only use Olympus/OMS/Lumix camera gear now, though still have my Nikon D7500. The OM5 is light, and a beautiful camera to carry. Just watch the shutter in a year or two. Mine is a replacement for my EM5iii, which had known shutter sticking problems, and the thumb cover on the back right hand side, can come off. I believe these have followed into the OM5. Like you, I find the OM1 a little heavy and doesn’t suit my smaller hand. The OM5 is an improvement over the EM5iii, complete with ND filters (manual and shutter modes only), starry sky and the things you mentioned. Enjoy!🇦🇺
Good to hear those points you mentioned , I did extensive research ( literature, not youtube), and the sticky shutter was mentioned, but could not put a definitive answer to it being addressed . I've a long way to go with this om-5, and learning of a new camera is such fun..
Great to see you out Joe. Yes, keep going in light mode. I'm off 1o years opioid type meds which caused restless leg, constipation and low mood, now use paracetamol and ocassionally a wad of anti inflammatory jell, and rest, great result largely pain free mobility at last. Thinking of downing olive oil at dawn? Good luck with your pain control and new methods. Take care. Harry
Thank you Harry, good news, you are getting more mobility without pain , I largely do have a lot of good days , I take two glucosamine , one turmeric and a multi vitamin tablet a day which in itself keeps on top of things , I do have prescribed pain killers but I o ly take them when I'm literally on my knees lol. This new lightweight camera system will ensure I can do photography without issues for years to come.. Thank you for watching.
The OM-5 with the 12-45 f/4 is one of my favorite combos. The 40-150 f/4 and the 20mm f/1.4 also pair nicely ... small and light weight. And everything weather sealed.
Really enjoyed using the 12-45 on this two day hike , but I might look out for a small wide-angle prime for the next trip down here. At least then it will fit in my pocket . I have not tried my 100-400 yet for wildlife , I'm going out today, 18th Sept, to a couple of nature reserve to try that out.
Morning joe nice to see you back i know what you mean about your arthritis i got the same problem looking forward to your next video when at all possible 😊
It doesn't bother me in pain most of the time because I keep on top of it ( please read my comment to flying haggis films) . But we all have off days. Thank you for watching.
I made almost the same decision. The E-M1 III feels better in my hand. What should not be underestimated is the weather resistance of the OMs. I don't have to tell a Brit anything about the weather. I only use the D500 in the city, with the Tamron 10-24mm. Greetings from the Black Forest.
Ha ha 😂. I know what you mean . I brought a pair of boots 2 weeks ago, and what made me buy them was their selling point, which was.. British weatherproof. 🤣🤣🤣. I had the tamron 10-24 it's a superb lens..
Thanks Joe for sharing...yes I am 81 yrs old and know what you mean...I have arthritis as well so I am now restricted in my walking so I had to change my thinking..I still have my D500 Nikon camera but only carry one lens ... interesting comments on your camera change ... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Cheers to many more years of getting out there and enjoying the journey. I just bought an OM-5 as well. 62 yrs old and lots of ear and tear on the old body. Very happy that the quality is top tier yet does not weigh me down. Pun intended lol. Thanks for sharing your journey 🙌
Light is always right as far as I'm concerned. I still use my Nikon D7500 with some heavy lens but only at home for photographing the knives, just a bit too heavy and bulky when travelling on foot or by bike. New camera looks fab :)
Thank you for sharing your decision. I am looking forward to hearing how you like the IQ, colours and DR. My main lens on the em10m2 is the PA12-60 lens.
Good decision, congratulations. Could you do something about the strap fittings to the camera? It will destroy the camera body over time. I use a similar clip-on system and placed a piece of leather in between to protect the camera... Best Siegfried
I don't, as a rule, use a strap that much. The only reason I did on this trip was i thought i packed my lopro pouch that fixes to my rucksack strap . Well, I didn't pack it, and this strap was in the boot of the car .
I have an Oly M10 mk 1 and have been thinking about upgrading. I like the sound of taking the faff out of using physical ND & grad ND filters with the virtual ones...
I didn't use ND filters, only a neutral CPL filter, four stops in reality is enough for me because I rarely used them but for most 4 stops probably wouldn't be enough. In video the shot of the waterfall was done at 1.30 in the afternoon with overhead sun using the inbuilt ND's.
CONGRATULATIONS! When I decided to getbback into photography, size & weight wer my two biggest concerns. I originally chose a bridge camera, and bought more than one, well used, to see if I liked them. I did, but the sensor size bothered me, so I went with M43. It's very nice, and I'm not selling photos, so this is all just for me. When I started back, I watched some YT videos & consulted my oldest son, who's an enthusiastic amateur. My camera was an old Pentax K10D, which, as I'm sure you know, is a big heavy camera. He recommendded full frame, but after I looked at what photographers had to carry, I decided as you did. After all, this supposed to be FUN. Anyway, new subscriber & glad to make your acquaintance. I hope you like M43 as much as I do.
Hello Steven, welcome aboard. You are right wholeheartedly. Photography is fun, and I think a lot of people get caught up in the snobbery of it and bragging rights on there kit , I've one small sentence for that lot , but I won't say it here . Needless to say, when I go out to do photography, whether it's woodland, landscape, or wildlife, I go out and have fun . Thank you for watching.
I’m a new subscriber. I have the EM5 mkiii which I am taking on an overseas trip. At the moment I’ve decided to include the 12-32 kit lens from Panasonic to make the gear lighter and the plastic fantastic 40-150 Olympus. I’m also tucking in the bag a back up body EPL9. Advantage is they take the same battery. Still contemplating whether to swap the 12-32 with my 12-45 pro lens ( which tho ‘lightweight’ is considerably heavier than the Panasonic lens). Oh I forgot I’m also taking the Panasonic Lumix 20 mm 1.7. I’m a total amateur but find the Olympus / Panasonic gear to suit my needs. Good luck with your OM5 gear I may well sell my other camera equipment and upgrade to that model next year but for now the EM5 mkiii is fine for me.
Hello and welcome. Being new to M43 I am looking for a non lung and liver plus left bollock selling wide angle prime for when I venture out on the moors again , although the 12-45 f4 was a blast to use and so light , I feel a small wide angle prime would be better suited , not just for better portability but it will go in my pocket . Win win. Any suggestions 🤔.
@@WessexphotographyI have the Oly 17 mm 1.8 which is great but I also have the 17mm 2.8 which is inexpensive and lighter. I am told the 14 mm lumix 2.7 is a good lens but I don’t have it.
Hello Patrica . You never know what's around the corner for me . With my Nikon gear, I was primarily a wildlife photographer, which I will still do, I am going to a couple of nature reserves in the cotswolds today ( I live near them) to try out the om-5 for wildlife with the 100-400mm olympus lens , should prove interesting. But I was looking at the em-1 mkiii . I still might , just for wildlife. Thank you for watching
New subscriber. I have Nikon but wrestle with the weight. I am considering the OM system, but have not cut the cord yet. I'm anxious to see how you like it.
Welcome to M43! I converted from Canon full frame in 2020 after I saw the beautiful small Olympus cameras in a camera store in Vienna, Austria although it took me a lot of on-line researching, looking at images posted, and renting one for a week. After a week of vacation in the US State of Utah and looking at the images on my computer after returning home (even thought they were all jpgs!!!) I sold all of my Canon gear and got the EM5 ii (with 12-40 2.8 and 35-100 2.8). It is still my go to camera 95 percent of the time. I only take my EM1ii on once in a lifetime vacations due to the 2 card slots. Best wishes!
That's a good insight into your journey to M43, as mine is just beginning. I plan on keeping it simple with 4 lenses 12-45 f4 , 100-400 , 45mm F1.8 but I'm torn between 60mm macro or 17mm 1.8 as my last purchase , deciding which is a nightmare, I previously had the sigma 150mm macro and really enjoyed using it, but the 17mm will replace the 12-45 on my multiday hikes. Oh the pain of deciding.
@@Wessexphotography lol....I try to keep it real simple too. If I have too many choices I may bring everything and that would defeat the weight savings that started me on this journey! 😄 I did add the 75-300 for times I know I will need more reach. That lens is wonderful for it's price especially if you keep it under 250mm. I just added the 7Artisan 8mm for tight spots in cities--that lens is featherweight!!! I am actually going to Scotland next Weds for 3 weeks and am taking the EM1ii, 24-40, 35-100 and 8mm. I know from history that I will rarely use the 35-100 but I have castle shots on beaches and in Edinburgh in mind that will not work with the 12-40. I am positive that you will love the OM5 the more you use it! A year after buying my 5mkii I was still discovering useful features!!!! I have also considered the 17mm for the same reason as you.
Have a grandchild or a friend join you and carry the gear. I have a Nikon Z9 and believe it's the best camera ever made. I hope your arthritis improves and you feel better. Glad you are still shooting. I have taken up shooting birds. So much fun and the Nikon 400 mm 4.5 is the lightest long prime that I have ever tried so far. How do you like the new cat do you miss your Nikon gear?
Hello to you. To answer your question, do I miss my Nikon gear. No, not really, but I do miss the fast focus and the 3 AF- on buttons i had of my D500. Grandkids is a problem , I have 8, and choosing one would start World War 3 with them plus the wife would shout " favouritism". It really not worth ruining the quiet life I have made for myself. 🤣🤣🤣
I really did my research on this , in what would be good for me physically and not following the crowd. You are, of course, right in what you say that m43 has come a long way and, in my opinion, at the front as regards to tech in cameras .. this om-5 is a blast to use and is ideal for what I do. Thank you for watching.
I shoot mostly on a Lumix G9 now with a 12-35 f2.8 lens mostly and no tripod because of ibis However I use my Nikon D800 ( a heavy camera ) for some Landscapes and Astro, on a tripod I never take it on holidays where I have to fly I'm 65 now and have Arthritic issues since my early 20''s 🤣 Ps good luck with MF3, you won't regret it 📷👍
I am sure I will not regret it . Buying into the M43 system will ensure I can carry on doing what I love doing for years to come without the restriction of weight hindering my progress . Putting less pressure on my arthritic knees , this is something I am really looking forward to.
@@Wessexphotography Enjoy. I am enjoying my compact Sony cameras, a6700/A7CR. Tired of the weight, going light. But damn Sigma makes nice zooms that get bigger and heavier. Looks like I have to look again at Tamron for light weight lenses. Even Sony is making a lot of lenses lighter than before. The composite material seems tough. For weight, the Nikon F2 with motor drive plus 10 AA batteries is enough to break your neck. I love it, but it is parked in a drawer.
I gave a like, and I'll leave a comment to help out with the algorithms. I've shot M43 for years (started with the Pen E-PL1), right now I have an EM5M3. I've always liked the size and weight of the system. Unfortunately, I've discovered I like Night Urban photography, which is the systems weak spot. So a year or so ago I picked up a Nikon DSLR. I really like the night results, and oddly enough I like how easy it is to get some lovely bokeh. Now you can get bokeh on M43 but you have to work at it. That said, like you - the thing is a beast, and carrying it around is a pain. So I'm going to be like Goldilocks and try the Fuji X-T5. I just picked it up, and with the 16-50 kit, I am unable to tell the difference between it and my Em5 with the Lumix/Leica 12-60 lens weight wise. Too soon to say how the photographs compare. So far I'd say you'd really have to print big to tell the difference - at least for daylight landscape shots. Good luck with your M43, I've always thought they crammed the most features for the buck of any system.
Hello Jeffrey. I do hope you enjoy your visit to Scotland, you will not be disappointed. I did look at the fuji system and many others , but what sold me on the om-5 was that I could take 50 and 80mp raw images in a camera that weighs 414 grams. I took over 200 images on my resent 2 day hike of the dartmoor national park. Obviously, had a ton of throw aways, but that's down to learning how the camera works and fiddling with the menu . All the images I shot there were done using the 50mp high res mode and my goodness was it fun. Thank you for watching.

Hi! Interesting to see that you moved to micro4thirds camera, I´m thing the same and I´m now using a Nikon D500 with tamron 150-600 and my point is to get something that´s small and easy to take out and use. So I´m thinking about buying a OM-1 mark 1 maybe, but I have to sell my Nikon gear first.
I get it, I really do. I could of got the om1, but I really wanted small and light that could do everything I wanted and shoot the genres I shoot. The OM_5 was the logical choice for me, after all what cameras out there weigh 414grams that shoot 30fps and can shoot 50 and 80mp raw images with 7.5 stops ibis..
I can remember lugging my old Canon 6D and gear about , so I understand fully why you have gone for a lighter system Joe. I hope it makes life more fun out on your trips and regarding TH-cam which only seems to promote the clickbait shite which seems to flood our homepages 😂 Happy snapping atb Dave
Hello Dave. Hope you are well. It was an absolute blast using this system, so lightweight and the tech inside is mind blowing. I wo t give up on TH-cam I will continue to upload on this channel once in a while ,but know where near as often.. I'm going to concentrate more on my other channel which has mire success.. Thank you for watching Dave.. stay well.
I don't blame you for downsizing! I used to haul loads of lenses around. Through much experience I have settled for a 28mm, 50mm and 90-230mm zoom and my old Pentax K110D. They do everything I need. No stabilization or tripod. Use your body or your surroundings to steady your shots. Travel light❤
OM Systems are fantastic as are Nikon and canon and Sony and any other company but they are all not suited for everyone that’s why we have so many manufacturers so when people attack others for what they use i generally think they have very little going on in their sad little lives ,so keep doing what you do and just enjoy the time God has given you and keep up the fun videos .
Thank you. Nikon was good for me at the time ,but no longer now I have had to take a life choice . People are quick to judge . You are right about that, and quite honestly, it's getting boring, so now I'm not bothering with replying to comments . Except this one, this comment was uplifting and non judgemental. Thank you for watching.
Well said. I like my sedan and my friend likes his 4X4 pickup with 5 seats. He hauls things, I don't. I would like his if I did haul things but since I don't I like my 35 mpg.
I’m 67. I try too keep my mileage under 10 if possible. 10 litre Fjällräven waist pack holds everything I need including my Ricoh GR111. That’s it. Your camera strap is twice as heavy as it needs too be !
I use a gopro 9 for video with the media mod and a wireless microphone. But when I'm hiking its kept simple with the gopro 8 and a couple of rycot windjammer on the mics.
As you get older (I am 73) it's not so much the weight of the equipment, but where you want to go. I manage with my Nikon Z mount lenses. If you're going on footpaths use a trolley.
@@Wessexphotography Hey fella, have you always been this aggressive? He isn't judging you. He doesn't care about your choices, nobody on TH-cam does. He is giving you suggestions, admittedly, after you have already made your choices.
As always Joe, just do it for yourself and go and enjoy the wildlife, and if you are kind enough to share it then please do. I agree, some of your videos have not shown up on my YT feed even though I have been subscribed for a few years. Bloody YT :(
@@haakon_b my view on the weight of the gear is get the right backpack that fits properly. I recently invested in the German made backpack yeah that really expensive one and now I understand why it's expensive because you can put a heap of gear in it and it's fine I'm 54 and relatively fit, but oh my gosh that backpack fits really well....campagnon
Don't care really . I used internal mics , like I'm going to lug a microphone around the Moors, plenty of other channels out there that use external microphones for your delicate ears. So move on there's a good chap.
Yes, I know it was . Some people expect studio quality audio. I do use a wireless audio system, but when I'm hiking, I use a gopro Hero 8 and use the internal mics with a couple of rycot windjammers on the mics . And leave it at that. If they don't like it, leave a thumbs down if it makes them feel a rebel and move on , I seriously don't give a shit.

But I was looking at the em-1 mkiii . I still might , just for wildlife.
Thank you for watching
Just found you today. Subbed, thumbs up, and I'll try to comment when I see your videos.
Hello, Jeffrey. Thank you for taking the time . All subs are welcome , and thank you for commenting.
Had a Lumix G81 for Hiking years ago. Still regret selling it, especially the Leica 12mm lens.
MFT is a great system for outdoors.
I'm enjoying it so far .
New subscriber. I have Nikon but wrestle with the weight. I am considering the OM system, but have not cut the cord yet. I'm anxious to see how you like it.
So far things are looking good . Shooting 50 and 80mp raw images with 6.5 stops ibis whats not to like.
Congratulations ! Thanks for telling me.
Eerrr. Your welcome, I think 🤔
That's what I did after years with Canon / Nikon / Sony. The weight eventually gets to you, and it's just not worth it. M43 is REALLY good these days.
I really did my research on this , in what would be good for me physically and not following the crowd. You are, of course, right in what you say that m43 has come a long way and, in my opinion, at the front as regards to tech in cameras .. this om-5 is a blast to use and is ideal for what I do.
Thank you for watching.
I shoot mostly on a Lumix G9 now with a 12-35 f2.8 lens mostly and no tripod because of ibis
However I use my Nikon D800 ( a heavy camera ) for some Landscapes and Astro, on a tripod
I never take it on holidays where I have to fly
I'm 65 now and have Arthritic issues since my early 20''s 🤣
Ps good luck with MF3, you won't regret it 📷👍
I am sure I will not regret it . Buying into the M43 system will ensure I can carry on doing what I love doing for years to come without the restriction of weight hindering my progress . Putting less pressure on my arthritic knees , this is something I am really looking forward to.
Moved to M43 7 years great cameras and great lenses OM1 and 150 -400 stella combo
Olympus / om-system is the way to go lightweight
Totally agree 👍
Thank you for watching Dave.. stay well.
Past 6D owner myself. A beautiful camera with beautiful images but I like the "power to weight" ratio of the M43.
Understand completely. Bad knees and multiple spinal surgeries. No more 10-mile hikes.
❤I have all Olympuses and Cannon fullføres, but I have bought Leica MA filmkamera so I'm back whete I started in 69❤
Going full circle is always good .
I've gone from a big pack to one camera one lens that weighs less than 1/2 a bag of sugar. But as for milage, one tends to get carried away..
I have that camera, but have not given up on Nikon yet. I use both systems to take advantage of each systems strengths.
Good for you.
You can walk 15 miles with arthritis? I'm 63 and I've got osteoarthritis - I can barely walk twenty yards!
Yes i can thank you, I'm not one for letting an ailment dictate how my life is run.. if I do i will go bat shit crazy.
I have just done the same though for a Leica M10
Nice choice sir.. 👌
I use Nikon D500, Fujifilm XH1 and then Xpro1 and X-E1. Then for video Gopro9.
I use a gopro 9 for video with the media mod and a wireless microphone.
But when I'm hiking its kept simple with the gopro 8 and a couple of rycot windjammer on the mics.
As you get older (I am 73) it's not so much the weight of the equipment, but where you
want to go. I manage with my Nikon Z mount lenses. If you're going on footpaths use a trolley.
Don't care how old you or what you use . People are quick to judge .

Bloody YT :(
Thank you, Matt. TH-cam just doesn't like the small upload once in a while creator.
Fuji XT5?? Fuju X100Vi
What about them .
Just as heavy as the rest. MFT is another league of light.

Welcome to the dark side.
Dark side light there is.
Next time wear the mic on your shirt. Nearly impossible to follow you with the wind noise and I cut out at 5:19 unable to take it any longer.
Don't care really . I used internal mics , like I'm going to lug a microphone around the Moors, plenty of other channels out there that use external microphones for your delicate ears. So move on there's a good chap.
Sound ok for me.
Ok me also
What! Noooooooo😮
What! Yeeeeeeessssss
Will your pictures now be better and justify any cost?
What a complete tool. Go away.
Just another chatty British TH-cam photography guy ...
Yep. And you didn't have to watch and leave a shit comment for the sake of it. Now piss off.
