Directly to the North of where you are standing (across the inlet) is the Brigantine Wildlife Refuge. The smell is from the bay and refuge. Mud, salt air, etc
@@TheEastCoastSensation Yup, I think it's now called the John Forsythe Wildlife Refuge. It's a beautiful place to walk, bird watch, hang out, etc but watch out for the green heads they will eat you alive! If you google earth the area you can see the refuge area just north of Brigantine. I don't celebrate Halloween anymore but every once in awhile I like traveling to these haunted dark rides just for the thrill of it. I never went to Brigantine Castle or Haunted Mansion because the commercials themselves convinced me not to. I was too afraid, lol. But now at 55 I go into those places and I don't have the same thrill that I did when I was younger. Thank you for the memories. You rock man!!!
Thank you so much for this fun and informative video. I am from Philadelphia and spent every summer as a child from the age of about 2 to about 8 at Brigantine with my aunt, cousin and grandmother. Although I have lived all over the world, Brigantine remains my most beloved spot on the planet. I have so many happy memories from there: the beautiful ocean, of course, the sand, the sea air, the seabirds, large and small. I remember the pier very well, but I was gone from the area before the Castle was built. We always stayed at Jordan's Motel. Does anyone out there remember Jordan's? It was run by a very nice older man and his wife, and we always took an apt with a kitchenette. So much fun! Mr. Jordan used to show movies on a big screen against the side of his motel on Friday nights, and everyone was welcome. At that time, at the foot of the pier, there was a small amusement park with a ferris wheel and a place that served great ice cream. Maybe it was the same people who owned what became The Pirate's Den? Not sure. There is something so magical about this area of the coast; you are right -- you can smell it in the air. The pitch from the pier ballasts, I think, is what causes that smell. The constant changes in the weather are fascinating and beautiful, and even in the rain, Brigantine is beautiful. The beach is a lot smaller than I remember it, but it is still beautiful. I am glad to see that it has mostly remained low-key, relaxing and unspoiled. Brigantine = Heaven On Earth. Thank you again.
Thank You so much for watching. So happy you enjoyed the video. Brigantine has a special place in my heart. My dad took us many of place but brigantine and that castle gave me so much excitement. It’s my dream To open a haunted attraction. We go to Transworld haunt attraction so every year just to keep it going strong in my heart. (Check out those videos on our channel). spent every summer in Brigantine. I worked at the pier giving change at the arcade at night. I was a lifeguard during the day right next to the pier. I did not know it was gone. I really enjoyed your video. I wish I would have went through it. I am 51 years old . I remember the commercial in the 70's when I was little. It had a girl running out screaming from the castle. My Grandparents used to take me to Wildwood all the time every summer. I loved Castle Dracula. The first time I went through that I was 11 in 1981. I loved the entrance when you first go in and they would jump out of the picture frame. Was Brigantine built before Castle Dracula? I know Brigantine was the Grandfather to all of them. That was the first one that everyone really talked about. I can relate to what you said about the smell. I used to like the smell of Castle Dracula when you first went in. I am glad you had that experience. Would love to hear you talk about the inside of the castle. God Bless!

Used to go to the castle a lot it was a 1 mile away from our grandmother house used to scare my 4 sisters. also used to go to the outside trampoline center it had 12 individual trampolines in a grid format one of the employees would do flips from one to the other. Such a shame the castle burned down. I have actually written a fictional Haunted House inspired by both BC, Castle Dracula in Wildwood, Long Branch Haunted Mansion, and the old Horror Cave at Six Flags Over Georgia.

So awesome that you pinched people's ankles, haha. I knew they weren't real rats even as a kid but it was so dark it was still terrifying!
Directly to the North of where you are standing (across the inlet) is the Brigantine Wildlife Refuge. The smell is from the bay and refuge. Mud, salt air, etc
That smell has been there and only there since I was a kid. 1985 on! Has the wildlife refuge always been there?
@@TheEastCoastSensation Yup, I think it's now called the John Forsythe Wildlife Refuge. It's a beautiful place to walk, bird watch, hang out, etc but watch out for the green heads they will eat you alive! If you google earth the area you can see the refuge area just north of Brigantine. Used to go there a lot when I was a kid. When the tide is super low the smell is stronger bc the bottom of the bay is exposed. I used to live in Brigantine but on the south end (22nd st south)
Lol The smell is from the sewage treatment plant.

I never went to Brigantine Castle or Haunted Mansion because the commercials themselves convinced me not to. I was too afraid, lol. @@TheEastCoastSensation Thank you, I'll be on the lookout.
We visit brigantine every year when we travel to the east coast.
Again, thanks for watching! 😊

spent every summer in Brigantine. I worked at the pier giving change at the arcade at night. I was a lifeguard during the day right next to the pier. I did not know it was gone. I watched it being built and attended the grand opening. This fishing pier at the end was popular. Plus there was a bar. Then there was a fire and they built the castle. Also, arcade right across the street. Many good memories.

God Bless!
