Keezer Build Part 2: The Shell

  • I'm in the process of building a "keezer," or deep freezer kegerator, for work. In this video I show you the process of building the shell that goes around the freezer.
The purpose of the shell is to make the freezer a bit more ornate but also to hide the collar that I built in Part I: • Keezer Build Part 1: ... . I basically built a box out of half-inch plywood on castors that the freezer can be moved into. I then cut multiple pallet slats to the same width and thickness on my table saw and installed them randomly on the faces of the plywood shell. Eventually, I will drill through the collar and the plywood face for four keg shanks.
So far it's turning out pretty awesome. Subscribe and stay tuned for Part III!

Mate you should be proud. That is a pretty fine Keezer build. Cheers.

Been watching with great anticipation! Been building mine along with ya. Mine is a bit different in that there is an upper and lower collar vs all wrapped. Love what you are doing there!

Bob Bruchsaler, thanks a lot! Hope you’re having fun building yours! Part 3 is coming soon. I have another project in the interim, but that should be done tomorrow and then I can focus on the important stuff-beer dispensing.

Why did you not show the final product how it opens etc.

Hows it held up with the shell around it, I've heard they need room to displace heat, or else they won't cool as efficiently and can cause the compressor to burn up

Love this build. I’m doing mine almost the same. How did you fix the vertical batons to the freezer body? Was it just glue?

Ray Khan, I used double sided tape, actually. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Love your table saw enclosure build. You have a video on that?

Chris Boback, kinda. th-cam.com/video/-fn5vG9234s/w-d-xo.html. This video is me describing how I made it, not the build itself. Thanks for the interest!

Awesome keezer! I'm planning to do something similar. What kind of stain) finish did you put on it?

Chris Lawrence, I just used clear Shellack. Nothing fancy. The color is all in the pallet wood. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Can I ask what the string under the collar that you taped down is for? Is this instead of using weather stripping or silicone?

Walt Shaw you nailed it. That’s exactly what it’s for. I had to get a little industrious with that one. I didn’t have enough weather stripping in my tool box so I had to use some rope and some tape to do the job for me. Weather stripping would probably be better, but I just needed something to fill gaps between the two surfaces. It’s been working great so far. Thanks for commenting!

I have a concern with the enclosure. Is not allowing the condenser, that is built into the cabinet,to release it's heat. The compressor will be working overtime to remove the heat from the evaporator .

Michael Holt, at about the 7 minute mark you’ll see that I have the vent grate cut into the side of the shell. I even cut holes for the temperature dial and the drain. It’s been working great so far. Thanks for watching and commenting!

The vent only allows the heat from the compressor to release. I hope the cabinet releases enough heat so that you get a long life from your project. Nice looking unit.

Michael Holt, I never really considered that, however, the whole thing is only 3 sided. The back is completely open and exposed. It has been running like a dream. Maybe I’m just lucky. Thanks!

What is the deal with the wood piece between the lid and the freezer part?

Mountain SilverFox check out Part 1. I explain in the description. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!

It's called a collar. It adds height so you can fit kegs with couplers and lines as well as tall CO2 or Nitrogen/mix tanks. Also allows for a keg and/or air tank to be stored on the compressor shelf. Most importantly, it allows you to drill through said wooden collar and not have to drill through the wall of the freezer resulting in possible damage and voiding of freezer warranty.

About how many pallets did you use?

    • @RegularDudesGarage
      @RegularDudesGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Dexter Combs, tough to say. I didn’t completely tear apart a single pallet. I got planks from multiple dumpsters, construction sights, and neighbors. I only actually pulled about 5 or 6 pieces of wood from a few different pallets. But if I were to guess, I’d say that 3 pallets would probably cover the whole thing. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
