For those who didn't know what strip he was pointing at it was the slightly transparent black strip that is slightly loose, I cleaned mine with a piece of kleenex after watching this vid and now my printer is finally working again! THANKS your a LEGEND
Works on Canon MG4250. As per the others on this thread, spent a long time trying to fix this. Nothing on the official canon help pages solved this problem. Always just telling you to use menu options, none of which of course would clean this strip!!! 3 years after posting this video it is still helping people and canon still not helping!! Thank you.

Seriously thought I might ruin it to try this but I just spent over 60 $ on ink and was desperate so I tried it after hours of manually and automatically aligning and wasting ink following manufacturers instructions to no avail . AND THIS TIP WORKED!!! Thanks sooo much!
Man you are great! I had a printer problem. My EPSON XP201 suddenly started printing everything misaligned (I would like to say blurred but it was worse than that, it looked ...double!). I tried following the head cleaning procedures of the EPSON software and spent a lot of time, effort, paper and ink to no avail! Then I came across your video and followed your instructions about cleaning the thin transparent plastic film running behind the printer head. In my case there was a slight shadow formed by ink spilled on it. This thin film is, as I later found out after searching, a linear encoder read by photo-sensors to direct the head. After I cleaned this subtle shadow of ink the printer worked fine. You saved me from a lot of time, effort and money since I was prepared to take it for maintenance tomorrow. Thank you very much!

Thank you very much! I almost gave up on our printer after it sat unused and I replaced the ink in it. I guess somewhere between three ink replacement and cleaning dust out, I must've bumped the alignment strip and contacted the head rail. This video just saved me money!
Thanks ! This worked for Canon E560. I used an alcohol swab and tweezers to wipe the plastic strip. It had quite a few blotches of ink residue. After cleaning, I'm getting superior quality on a 3 year old printer. Thumbs Up to the poster.

I've tried the maintainance route on the printer, cleaning the head and the rollers, automatic line alignment etc. Nothing worked. I even saw that video you talked about with the guy about the spring. Like you, wasn't an issue in my case. Tried your simple trick and hey presto, issue resolved. Can't thank you enough as was thinking that I had to buy a new printer.

Dude! This worked. I had some smudges on that thin strip. Cleaned it with a q tip and viola, it prints perfectly! Was just about to order another one on Amazon, but now there's no need!

Thank you so much for doing this video! I have an Canon mx410 and noticed some splotches of ink on the film and heavy ink accumulation on the railing. After cleaning it up with some alcohol and swabs, the print alignment was fixed. Cheers! :)
Hi, just wanted to say, a big THANK YOU! to you. Like you, I did everything the software asked but still couldn't solve the problem (the mess of colourful test print papers in your room is similar to the mess in mine), then I tried your solution.. and it worked! :D *Note: Even though my model is also E510 I did not see any orange 'film' strip inside when I opened up the printer. Instead, I saw a grey, long and thinner strip inside which had some grease marks so I cleaned that instead. Thanks again ! :D

I was going crazy trying to figure out why my printer was printing everything blurry and messed up. Spent hours following canon instructions which never worked. Them I followed these instructions and it work like a charm. My printer is working fine now. I have mg3520.
this works, thanks to JLO. though he offers no instructions on how to actually do it, I've found a little lens cleaner on a qtip, wedge the door sensor open with another qtip, and wipe the thin, transparent ribbon with the wet qtip, both front and back. mine still had some liquid residue after wiping, so I ran over it with the dry side, and the ribbon was almost compleetely smudge free. printed another test page and voila...nice and sharp with no alignment issues. fascinating canon doesnt note how to do this on their support site.

This video did not help in any way. First, it's not clear and I needed to read lots of comments until I found a nice description (thanks!) just to see that my ribbon was perfectly clean. I finally solved the issue by simply refilling all the cartridges. It looks like alignment gets affected when some are empty.
