Seriously thought I might ruin it to try this but I just spent over 60 $ on ink and was desperate so I tried it after hours of manually and automatically aligning and wasting ink following manufacturers instructions to no avail . AND THIS TIP WORKED!!! Thanks sooo much!

Thank you so much! My Pixma 922 had grease as well. I cleaned it as best I could - the print is still not perfect, but now readable. I'm about to get another printer as it never has printed perfectly.

LMFAOOOOOO wow this fixed it. Canon MX532X, just wipe the clear strip free of any smudging with lens cleaner + q-tip... instantly fixed.

This video did not help in any way. First, it's not clear and I needed to read lots of comments until I found a nice description (thanks!) just to see that my ribbon was perfectly clean. I finally solved the issue by simply refilling all the cartridges. It looks like alignment gets affected when some are empty.
