Ben 'bizde okul yemeği yok' dediği yerde şok geçirdim. Ortaokulu ve liseyi bırak ben ilkokulda bile beslenme çantası götürmüyordum. Okulda yiyorduk her zaman yemeği. Her gün farklı yemekler veriliyor bizim okulda.

As a Turkish person I have never heard that lunch box thing in Turkey. Both normal and private schools serve 1 meal for lunch and some of the primary/middle schools serve breakfast and evening snacks beside the lunch. Also almost all the schools have cafeteria in it which has plenty of types of toasts, pizzas, sandwiches and regular snacks. Turkish people minds are literally based up on foods, so I couldn’t relate the reality with this video. 😅😅

As a Turkish high school student I should confirm that we are not allowed to get out of the school just to eat. You can't just get out of school without permission since there are guards outside, you should get a paper signed by the vice principals for them to let you out. For the food, you can eat at the cafeteria (not for free ofcourse), buy stuff at canteen or bring your own food.

⚠️ FOREIGNERS PLEASE NOTE THIS COMMENT⚠️ My mother is South Korean and my father is Turkish. Glad to see both countries at this table. After studying primary school in Korea, I went to secondary and high school in Turkey. I am currently a high school senior. I would like to say that there are many schools in Turkey that, like the others, serve various and delicious meals on a big platter. They also give dessert on the side. Toast, sandwich, doner, wrap, hamburger, etc. can be served in the canteens of schools where food is not served on trays. is served. Many kinds of food are served. There are also juicy dishes such as soup. Students can take whatever they want from the canteen and sit at the tables and eat. Those who think that the food in the canteen is unhealthy or tasteless can bring it from home. In addition, the lunch break at each school is 30-40 minutes. This order has been like this for years. I don't think Turkey is represented correctly in this video. Many Turks think like me. Please foreigners take note of this comment. We don't want you to be misinformed. Thank you for reading... 🤍

Well, majority of the schools don't have a catering at school in Turkey. For the schools which have caterings are paid privitaly, which is quite expensive to afford for most of the families. That is the fact!
The only food can be bought from canteen was toast, biscuits, chocolates, simit, Ayran and some other soft drinks.
Unfortunately, in the last years some students loose conscious due to malnutrition. That is another sad fact!
Arkadaşlar nerde her okulda yemekhane, siz nerede yaşıyorsunuz!

@@duyguyurdakul6776 Yes, you are right, unfortunately the country's economy has been getting worse for its citizens lately because of the president. And you are right, not every school has a cafeteria, but if I remember correctly, I did not say "every school has a cafeteria". "There are schools that have cafeterias, and schools that do not have cafeterias definitely have a canteen," I said. Also, there are various foods in the canteen, but I didn't say "everyone buys them" anyway. I have already informed you that "Those who are well off buy it, those who are not well off buy simpler things or bring them from home." Although there are not many people who can pay for the cafeteria, there are still some. The only thing I regret is that in the video the girl says this never happened. After all, they make a video and show school food from different countries. He should have represented Turkey in the best possible way. He should have chosen the best school meals in Turkey and instead of giving misinformation by saying "there are no cafeterias", he could have said "there are some". I just said that I really wanted him to tell the truth. I hope I was able to explain it (sorry, I'm writing the comment in English in case foreigners read it)

As a student from Turkey this is definitely not a lunch menu. Public schools require extra payment. Those who don't want to pay for food eat out or bring it from home. The lunch menu includes soup, meat or vegetable dish, salad, yogurt, rice or pasta, sometimes fruit or dessert. For those studying at private schools, breakfast (I don't know about other private schools, but my school does), lunch is usually available as hamburgers, pizza, doner kebabs because students complain, and these are served 3 days a week. Vegetables and legumes are served on the remaining two days, as well as rice varieties every day. or pasta. and afternoon snack (This is only for kindergarten, primary and secondary school students, not high school.) Of course, these are not free, they are added to the tuition fee.

In Brazil school goes from 7am to 12am, the morning classes. But you can choose to study in the afternoon (1pm to 6pm) or in the night (I don't know the amount of hours, but is mainly adults that study at this time).
When school ends you have the rest of the day to go home and to play with friends. As schools are always close to squares, you can see the kids playing there after school. 😊
Public schools are obligated to provide meals to the students, since some kids just have this to eat. So the government always have to create plans that guarantee those kids will have a good food, as this will influence their educational performance.

How come we don't have school meals in Turkiye? And how can someone misinform people about their own country? In elementary school, yes, we usually pack lunch boxes and eat in the classroom together. Still, there is also a cafeteria (in many schools) and DEFINITELY a canteen from which most students buy food. In middle school, it is rare to pack lunch since almost everyone buys from the canteen (toast, small pizzas, sandwiches) and there is a cafeteria in many schools. The most shocking one was the high school one. Once you get into the school, you cannot just walk out. Our schools are surrounded by fences and there is security at the door. So, there is no such thing as 'eating out'. There is a canteen and probably a cafeteria. Our lunch breaks last 40-45 minutes but never less than 30 minutes. Even our regular breaks last 10 minutes. And I have never seen a single household in which rice and pasta were consumed together or successively. I guess we didn't live in the same Turkiye because I'm sure these are just basic common facts.

Two of the three bread, rice and pasta combination often consumed together in Turkish households, especially in middle-low income houses, that is the majority of the country. If you are unaware of this you should consider yourself lucky since you belong much more privledged socio-economical class. School lunch concept does not exist in Turkey untill university (except some private schools), canteens are just places where you buy food like outside which does not fit in the "school lunch" concept in this video.

Schools usually have lunch, which is paid for non-boarding students. Those who do not want to pay can buy from outside or bring from home. lunch breaks vary between 45 minutes or 1 hour. And again, I would like to point out that meals in schools are never like that. Every day, a kind of soup, a juicy dish or a meat dish with vegetables, accompanied by rice or bulgur pilaf is served. next to the meals, one of the fruits, yogurt or pickles. In general, attention is paid to the use of nutritious and domestic products. I was really shocked to see the biscuits in the girl's box😬

The Italian school system is varied and changes according to the region or even the city.
For example in southern Italy children rarely eat at school because they are closed in the afternoon, but are also open on Saturdays. In northern Italy, on the other hand, it is very common for children to eat at school because they close between 4 and 4.30 in the afternoon, but they are closed on Saturdays. Furthermore, nursery schools in high earthquake risk areas are not open in the afternoon because children cannot sleep after lunch since in the event of an earthquake they could not be evacuated quickly.
Middle schools rarely have canteens because the schools are only open in the morning until 13.30-2pm maximum, the exceptions are schools with optional extra courses such as music or foreign languages.
Some high schools close at 2-2.30 pm, others are open until 6 pm, this is because they are of many types, there are scientific, musical, classical, linguistic, artistic high schools, hotel, technical, health, commercial high schools, etc. And given that the school timetable is modulated according to the needs of the school, the cafeteria may be a necessity or not be there at all.
The school menu doesn't look like the one in the video (p.s. that pasta is awful) because we structure meals differently.
First there is a first course (pasta or rice or soup or dumplings, etc.) and then a second course which is served after and which contains meat or fish or cheese or omelette, etc. always accompanied by seasonal vegetables. Sometimes at the end of the second course a piece of fruit is also given and occasionally a sweet.
School menus are strictly regulated, by law every city must hire a dietician who prepares healthy menus that vary as much as possible every day and which must contain lots of vegetables. And the dietician must also prepare alternative menus for pupils with food allergies or other health problems and also for pupils who for religious or personal reasons cannot eat certain things, such as vegetarians or Muslims.

@@YannTube Depending on the school timetable there may be one or two 10/15 minute breaks where you can go to the bathroom and eat something. Usually in schools there are vending machines where you can buy various types of snacks and hot and cold drinks and you can bring snacks, sandwiches or pizza, focaccia, etc. from home. They are not real lunches because theoretically you have to have lunch at your house after school. Some high schools have a cafeteria and also distribute meals, but usually they have a large number of students and are also open in the afternoon. In the city where I live and work, all the nursery and primary schools have canteens, but only a couple of high schools have a cafeteria in their school buildings, and practically all schools have vending machines (except mine, because our principal is a b*tch and had everything removed in January to "protect our health", not even if she were our mother, we are all adults and children cannot use vending machines)!

I can say it's very clear that the "Turkish" girl have never seen a real school in Turkiye. She probably went to private schools. Yes, in elemantery school kids usually have lunch boxes they pack at home but not after that. In middle school you usually eat from canteen (because kids may bully or taunt if you still eat from your lunch box) or you eat from school cafeteria (if your school has one). When it comes to highschools in reality, you can't just "go out and eat there" because you are not allowed to leave the school until 3 pm or 4 pm (doesn't matter if you are in elemantery school or highschool). They have like 3 meeter long walls with fences and barbwires and (depending on your school you may even have police officers) guards. Also 15-20 minute is false, lunch breaks are 30 - 40 minutes. This video is just misinformation when it comes to Turkiye.

Turkiye? I am truly shocked lol It is not that at all! Yes you can bring from home too but not snacks as meal. If it is hers okay but still she have to show there a common "Turkish school meal" not hers I suppose. Most of Turkish mom wouldn't even let you bring snacks as meal because they only be brought for "breaks" not main meal. Also there is school meals for every grade too. I don't know which school she went but it is not that. Never saw such a meal box in 15+ years of my school life... For me, i would go home to eat from primary to high school because it was like 5 minutes from school to home luckily and it was 1 hour break time. Btw you can't go out of school as you want. Because while you are at school your teachers and school managment responsible of you. Your parents must speak with them and say "I allow my child to go out for lunch break and request you to allow too" and then they give you a permit card to show it to security before leave. So you can go eat outside or go home if possible...

I can easily say she described Türkiye differently because taking food from home happens in primary school and it is very rare in middle school, we usually buy what we call fast food from the canteen such as toast, hamburgers, pizza, pizza toast, kumru. And going out in high school? I've never heard of such a thing in my life. Yes, it is possible to eat out if you skip school. I spoke by generalizing about what I wrote, my economic situation is not above average and never has been. And there are courses called "dyk" in schools, and if you want to stay, it is up to you. And I have never heard of pasta and rice being eaten together. Not everyone, but my grandmother eats bread and rice together and this is a matter of preference, otherwise we don't have such a custom. And in the my middle school, lessons started at 8.30 a.m. and I would leave around 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Our lunch breaks were at least 30 minutes, in some schools more, in my school it was more like 40 minutes.

I wonder where the Turkish girl studied. Yes, in elementary and middle school, you pack your lunches yourself, but there's a canteen. In high school, however, you usually eat in the school cafeteria or in the dormitory cafeteria if you have one. We had a canteen, a cafeteria, and a café for drinks all together. Some schools allow you to go outside, yes, but some don't. In high school, we had a monthly schedule for the meals that everyone could see. On Fridays, it was mostly chicken and rice, and the other days it was always a soup, a meal with vegetables, a fruit or dessert, and the main dish. The main dish usually had meat in it or something like fries. It was definitely not what the Turkish girl showed.

An interesting adendo to Brazil is that the "school food" notion is for full-time and public schools.
Private non full time schools and public non full time schools (and I mean up until 18 years old) have two sessions: one from 7am to 12pm and the second session from 1pm to 6pm (usually) and the students that are not full time only study in one of the sessions. You either only have classes in the morning or afternoon, so there is no actual meal made at school apart from the 15 minutes break in the middle of the sessions to eat snacks at the cafeteira or brought from home.
Our understanding of meal is like very specific and breakfast, lunch and dinner are the meals we eat like what its in the video. Snacks during breaks can be fruits, chips, a sanduiche, other brazilian snacks like pão de queijo, empada, etc. Its not a meal per say.

Italian food doesn’t look like that and basically we just don’t have school canteen, we start at 8 and most of schools end at 14 p.m. so we come back in our house to have lunch

In my Italy primary school starts at 8:30 am and ends at 4:30 pm. while the middle school starts at 8:10 am and ends at 4:10 am except for two days that you leave at 2:10 pm. while for high school you start at 8:00 am and you finish at 2:00 pm. I go to a public school and to eat I go home. I think it depends on the school of your city/ country.
    btw I love these videos

In Brazil we also have public and private schools. The public schools give food for free, the private ones usually don't

As a Turk, I must say that we do not prefer to prepare packed lunches in high school. We usually buy food such as toast, sandwiches and doner kebab from the canteen, or some students buy their meals from the cafeteria. I have never seen anyone eat the kind of food prepared by the Turk in the video. In cafeterias, we usually eat foods such as manti, pastry, soup, rice, cacik and always have a side salad. Desserts are also served after the meal, such as baklava. As a high school student, I did not see many students bringing meals from home to school, but what I saw was never similar to the one in the video. I saw that they usually brought easy-to-make things such as sandwiches and toast from home. Also, our schools usually start at 9 in the morning and end at 4 in the evening. But some schools have a different system, for example, in my school, classes start at 7 in the morning and end at 1 in the afternoon. Usually lunch break is 40 minutes in Turkiye. Our schools are surrounded by fences and there is security at the door, so we cannot go outside the school and eat during the school time.

That girl haven’t been in Turkey for even a single day. We don’t eat pasta like this. NEVER at schools. And idk about the others. Our schools have a 40 minutes of eating break, and for lunch every school has their own catering firm to feed the school. You pay for it unless you want to prepare your meal at home and bring it to school, otherwise you pay for catering and eat there. Usually chicken or beef, rice, soup and something sweet like baklava.
