Great video. Sends me back to early 80`s when I helped a neighbor who bought a brand new 4840. I was the first person to do fall tillage as our neighbor was behind on combining. So dad helped with our combine and I drove his 4840 with a chisel plow. We had a Versatile 935 but I liked driving the Massy... probably because it was new.
Brings back memories of a man in my area that used Massey tractors like this.

Thank you for watching. I am always looking for Massey Ferguson’s. They are harder to find. I filmed this one 50 miles from my house on the 4th of July and was late to a family cook out to get it filmed on the last field of the year. I hope to get a Massey 1805 filmed this year. My top priority on my filming wish list is to find a 2775 and 2805 to feature.

That machine is still in very nice shape, and one thing I noticed about it that we don't often see on older tractors for a variety of reasons........The rubber all matches. 🙂👍

I did not know MF built some of there tractors in Detroit Mi. Learn something new every day. Boe
They built the high horse power tractors there through 1982. Other big tractors included the 2805, 2775, 2405 etc…. The 4wds moved to Canada and a new range was released from the Massey factory in France for 1983.
There used to be a few of the 4wd Massey's in the area of North MS that my step father and his family farm, from the older 1800s up to the 4900. He's the only one left running Massey Ferguson tractors now, an 1100 that gets run almost every day and an 1130 that has become the backup loader tractor. I take the 1130 to some local tractor shows and plow days in the spring and fall when I can.
We had a MF 1155. V8 no cab. I can't remember the engine specs, but I loved operating that tractor
The 1155 is a tough tractor. Very nice.
Restored my 4880, new paint, new interior, upgraded front diff, and outback auto steer also all led lighting
Reminds me of the previous generation Massey 1805 I operated in the late 70's. That had the 3208 V-8 Caterpillar. Love the sound of that machine but these 903 and 855 Cummins have a great sound too.

We have a massey Ferguson 285 on our farm solid old tractor and it pulls a lot. Would like to have an 1105 Massey one day.

Still running an 1805 MF, 1976 vintage, with 3208 Cat, 210 hp. Use it for digging primarily, 30 foot cultivator. This is on a small farm, Red River Valley. It isn't pretty, just basic... but it gets the job done. Check out JT's Barn & Grill.... he is still running an 1805 also. Nice looking tractor!
Love it! My intro to the big MF 4wd was the ertl models in the 80s which I thought they got wrong until the internet years later revealed they didn't. Yep, they do have huge cabs. Much handier to give the wife, kids, or a tech a ride along. Probably won't see one in real so Thanks for the info vid!
I like running the Massy Fergersons but all the dealers went out of business around here had to switch to John Deere. Great video keep them coming . Get as Manny Massey's as you can they might stay around.

When i was a kid back in SW Scotland i remember being in awe when our silage contractor showed up with his first MF articulated chopper tractor, think it was a 1200, seemed huge to me, then i think he traded up into the 2400 range, but by then he was running a Claas Jaguar pull type chopper with the engine on the drawbar. Never saw a 4000 series till i came to Canada
The 1200 is a neat tractor. Especially as a chopper tractor. Unfortunately it was never offered in the US or Canada. I would like to film one some day.

All of our tractors are Massey Ferguson. We do use a 4880 to pull the krone big pack baler. Should be able to find a video or two on TH-cam

I believe the Cooke family is the only ones around here with these old masseys. Glad to see you made it out for more footage of these tractors.

Never seen one of those in person. Doesn't seem many farmers in Mississippi wanted a Massey over 110 horsepower. All you see down here is John Deere, Case IH, International, a few Steigers, and Kubota.
I grew up in Western New York. Massey 4wds we’re a real contender there. The number one Massey 4wd dealer is Kuhn Equipment in Arthur, IL. They sold a bunch.

I’ve never seen a pivot, or articulated Massey Ferguson tractor but have seen a V-8 Massey Ferguson tractor, a 1155. One of my cousins had one. Don’t know what happened with it.
Too bad they don’t build stuff as good as they did in the 70s and 80s. Never been in a Massey 4wd. Versatiles, Steiger, and john Deere were more common in my part of the world.

Overkill tractor for a 30ft seeder. 100hp tractor would do the job. Nice video and great tractor!
A 30 foot no-till great plains drill like the one we have, the one in this video, weighs 22,000 pounds... empty. And we have a lot of hill ground too, I doubt any 100 horsepower tractor can pull it, our 200 horsepower 8950 Valtra can only handle it on fairly good level ground. A large 4wd articulated tractor is just right for this drill.

I do not know how many were produced. I would guess 800 to 1,000 units.
I do not understand why the PTO horsepower would be different than the engine horsepower.
There is power loss through the drivetrain. Just like the the advertised horsepower number your personal vehicle has is it’s engine horsepower, the number it would make at the wheels is significantly less. A lot of higher horsepower FWA’s and 4wd’s are electronically limited to a certain horsepower because often what the tractor is capable of making at the pto is not necessarily needed.

That tractor needs more lights.
Tractors oddly did not come with many lights until the 1990’s and more so in the 2000’s. Head lights were fairly new in the lates 70’s. Most tractors previously just had fender lights.
We added two big light bars on the front and rear of the cab up top, works out pretty good.
Is it a V engine in the tractor?
Yes. Vt903 Cummins. It does nothing better than turn raw fuel into pure noise. Has to run 2000 and 2400 rpms
Yes it is a Cummins 903 V8 from the factory. Good running tractor.
I always heard that they were McConnell tractors, with Massey Ferguson paint.

I’ve always heard the 903’s were junk?
We never had to many problems. Just got underpowered for us towards the mid 2000s. Miss that tractor!
I have never heard about complaints with the 903 in the Massey. I own tow Steigers with 903s a 1974 Turbo Tiger I and a 1975 Turbo Tiger II. Both tractors run great as they approach 50 years old.

Change the coolant filter regularly and they'll go forever.
The vt-903 as a truck engine wasn't very good. They had them at 500+ hp. In farm tractors around the mid 300 horse range they seem fantastic. I've heard of them going 20,000 hours.
