I bought me an MP1 thanks to your reviews, and a Peavey Rockmaster, too. Both have accumulated some tech issues 😀Nevertheless, they are capable of great tones and you're an Aussie legend for reintroducing them to the masses! Meanwhile I've moved my practice tones into Reaxis
Left all my stompboxes back in the early 80s for the MP1, Microcab and Alesis verbs back in the day - and I STILL have and use them. Such a great piece of equipment. Thanks for sharing this video. :)
Leon turned me onto the Ada MP1, it is my main piece of guitar equipment right now. Love it love it love it. Worked beautiful on the squared album i released earlier this year with Arthys Soldano 88 rack!
Yep LOVED the MP-1 and it was the heart of my rack system, that I am damn glad I am not hauling around anymore:) LOL... But the chorus is better than what is on my BOSS GTK:)
@@LeonTodd it sure is. I use different settings than you, but my aim was a kind of Roland JC120 ish sound and something like the G.K. sound Alex Lifeson had 86-93. Then it evolved into more my own thing as it usually does over time.
Trying to catch up on vids. Been helping family. That strat sounds good no matter what you play it thru. Everything you play with that Strat sounds great brother. Those pickups just rock! That and your excellent Playing my friend ! 🤘 Anyway. Saw this title and couldn't click fast enough. Very very very cool . My fav preamp. This thing was so ahead of it's time along with so many other 80s products and rack effects. 🤘♥️🤘 Hope you're well my down under friend. ♥️🤘 I'm doing great. Just really busy lately, but things are finally slowing down and getting caught up. ♥️🤘♥️
One of the only pieces of gear I regret selling. Used this all through the late 80's and early 90's. At some point I'm going to have to look for another one.
"the most overlooked part...". Too bad, because back in its hay day, it was well known and used a lot. Such a versatile piece of gear that was definitely a valuable tool in any session player's belt back in the day. It definitely does scratch that itch. Funny, I was about to ask for more MP-1 content, and you beat me to it! 😃
It does remind me of the Rockman, although it seems quieter (less white noise) and the chorus doesn’t seem quite as dimensional. It certainly has that brightness and attack, an in-your-face kind of feel with the direct in and compression. Not my favorite clean by any stretch but I think it has its place.
Very nice!!! I see these for sale, in good condition, every once in a while and get very tempted to buy one...but I think I’ll just enjoy good videos of them for now lol!!!
i rewired my RG550 so the middle position uses the inner coils of the two humbuckers like the old JPM models did - that setting with the chorus and clean channel on the MP-1 is just pristine 80s cleans. i thought i was sorted, but thanks to this vid i now know i really want something in the rack that does the detune and verb..
Very nice with the chorus, especially with the detune in post. Maybe a little "spiky" for my taste with the Strat bridge PU. But the funk thing was wonderful.
I have an MP-1 already that I bought few months ago thanks to one of your previous videos of this unit Leon... and love it! But now I'm thinking to buy also an MP-2 to see how it can complements the MP-1. Have you ever tryed it? Thoughts?
I just got the Nembrini ADA-MP1 plugin after watching your videos and I'm loving it so far! Quick question, how did you do the pitch de-tune in post? Was it a plugin?
Thank you once again... ever so often I see these (and other rack gear) for sale and wonder what they sound like. Back when all this was brand new they were way too expensive and there wasn't TH-cam to hear the unit being run through their tones and patches. I'm actually starting to consider building a rack unit ... I have a Digitech 1101... any thoughts on this unit?
Hi Leon - all the best! I noticed your MP-1 ouput level is always maxed out. I know tone/feel is a personal taste but I get best results keeping output level volume pot at low setting (using the 9100 poweramp, not return loop of an amp). Even vodoo manual recommends same so wondering whats your experience? Thanks!
Hi Leon, have you ever got your hands on an 'ADA MP1 Classic' ? this is the model where they introduced a 'Brown sound' channel, as good as the Brown channel is, it's the distortion channel that really shines on this model, I don't know what exactly they did, it still retains the signature MP1 sound but with the addition of a noticable Vox like chime, it's glorious
@@LeonTodd after watching this I pulled out my MP1 and dusted it off, turned it on and miraculously it still works. I used an H3000 for pitch shift and a Korg sdd3000 for delay. What a fun time I had getting those old 80s sounds. Thanks for inspiring me.
Hi Leon ! Thanks as usual for all your awsome video! I own an axe fx III too, but recently i bought a ada mp1, and it's a real pleasure to play with ! I just buy a intellifex ltd, i hope it help me to kill the ada mp1 big hum, using the hush . My question is : should i plug the intellifex in the loop of the mp1, or after ? Thanks for your answer! ❤❤
Hey can you cover a song? It's because the guitarist of this band used this preamp for clean sounds and it sounds really great, you should really take a listen to them, try the song "Entre dos Tierras"
I played this for years in the 90s. The cleans are pretty artificial and squishy and the chorus is not something I’d get this entire unit just to attain, the crunch is somewhat woolly or boomy and not very natural either - BUT the lead channel is pretty awesome when dialed in right.
Hey, Hairston here from the 'Depot, thanks for the video Leon! I'd also like to post a quick shoutout to all my old ADA Depot peeps. Love you guys!
What's up! The depot was one of the sweetest places on the internet, an absolute model of a great online community. Learned so much from there.
Ahhhhh. Just here for my 80s clean fix. Carry on..
Miss the MP1 me and my brother had a brand new one in 88 or 89 the good ole days.😳
Huge props to ADA Depot!
Absolute legends!
I had one here just a few years ago. I gave it to a great friend.

I've still got one in my rack. It never gets old... well, you know what I mean!
Fine wines ;P

This is the way!
What cracks me up is the two MP-1s he's not using in the rack to his left. Ah, we do love them don't we.
I have three as well.😎🤷♂️
HOARDERS !!! lol
I soooo need an ADA MP1! 🙌

That is awesome!
30 yrs later , still a great piece of gear.
AMEN!
Very very lovely. It's very bright, but not in a disturbing way like most of the new stuff.
Agree completely.
Loved my MP-1, withna SPX and 50/50 Boogie pwr amp :) was a wonderful thing
That would have ROARED
I can hear some Saigon Kick love in your playing😃 Sounds great with this unit
Love both of my MP1s (3TM and standard). Looking forward to see what Leon is going to do with his 3rd MP1.
Greate Device!!!!Thank you for the nice memory!
Bringing the beauts today

I love that tone. Reminds me of Just take my heart by mr big.
Love the S.S. in the MP-1
Hidden gem hey

The MP1 does it again! The chorus sounds pretty good too.

ADA MP1 > Alesis Quadraverb > Marshall EL50/50 > Laney cabs was my main rig back in the day. Gigged with it for years.
ADA/Quadraverb is such a great combo :)
I'm going to go try out both the
ADA MP1 and the Marshall JMP-1 today. I'm looking for that ZZ Top Eliminator and Afterburner sound.
Thanks Leon.

Poul masvidal coincidentally sold his ADA MP1 that he used in Cynic and Death, a strange coincidence
:D

glorious cleans, try whit speaker sim on board
I use my mp2 into a 76 2203-try long plate pre tubes in the Ada 😎
Many decades on and the MP 1 I think will forever be in my top 2 or should I say equal first with my JMP's
Best pre amp
Actually OD1 controls the pre gain and OD2 controls the compression level.
I've been wrong all this time! Thanks for the correction.

Soundtoys Little Microshift plugin

Not really. I think my OG still has the stock tubes :p

Soundtoys Microshift and little Plate
