🎃 This knit-along has been quite wild and unlike any other, I've been a part of. I've included a link in my video description that offers suggestions on how to modify the first clue that WestKnits posted before it was taken down. If you happened to miss any of my vlogtober videos, you can still catch up on the first few days 1-5 here: th-cam.com/play/PLZmX-xQjUyRepwm0cGBQ8npgYGB974wSC.html&si=vaOAzM5UrpPbgsKD
I agree that Stephen was great for listening to what the fellow knitters were saying even though it didn't look like that to everyone, I also think that it sucks for a symbol that was used in another culture for good, was eventually tainted by a different group of people.😥
I totally understand and appreciate how Stephan pivoted. I just wish the original design was still available as an option since it would have given me the push to participate this year (despite not having the time lol).
@@yarning4asmile unfortunately not. I'm not on ravelry or other platforms. Just you tube. However, we have exactly the same colours, wow. Good luck, and I like your videos.
I really appreciate your kind words and support. It means a lot to me. And how cool is it that we have the same colors? Thank you for watching my videos! I would love to hear if you are changing the color order in yours? If you ever want to email me a picture you can do too.
Hi, I did three sections of clue one and really liked the process and look. I understand why it was changed and hope everyone else does. I plan on using what I knitted and will adjust my colors . I had the same idea as you about using a one color to high light the row in a different way. This is my first Mkal that I ‘ve participated in ,I bought last years but never casted it on. Looking forward to the process
Happy first official MKAL!! They are a lot of fun and this is really the first time I have ever experienced anything like this. I really hope to get in a lot of knitting today so I will have a lot to show you all tomorrow. Thank you so much for checking out my channel. (Psst... my Twist & Turns is still on the needles. 🙃
Well, I can't take all the credit. I consulted with the amazing Miss Babs, I am so happy I ordered that extra skein. It is really bringing it together.
I got interested in this mkal when I saw the clue 1 first results but then it got changed to the new boring pattern (IMHO…). I understand the reason but I would have preferred a different way to assemble the 4 quarters as I saw elsewhere. But as the original pattern is not available, I lost interest in making it :-(
Yea I completely understand and those feelings are 100% valid. It was a mess, he handled it well but still a mess. I hope it does not affect his willingness to have these in the future.
Oh that makes me both proud of him as a human and sad for the situation as an artist because public opinion dictated his art. To me the original design looks like a Celtic knot 🫥.

@@Lisa-vb3gn I agree with you Lisa. In his statement he was uncomfortable and embarrassed by the design’s resemblance. But I would argue that this embarrassment was created by the public’s opinion of the design. And that’s why I said that the public dictated his art. I hope it didn’t upset you and that you have a good day. I’m sorry this is happening at all. It really is sad considering the resent attack on the Jewish nation.
@@hookthatyarn It’s also uncomfortable with the rise of neo nazis around the world. You didn’t upset me, no worries! I’m glad the knitting community is having thoughtful discussions about this. At the end of the day we will all have learned something, enjoyed some knitting and have a shared project around the world. I’m very excited to see where this pattern is going. I was guessing it might be a circle, like a moon, planet or galaxy. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a rocket shape? Who knows? The guessing and anticipation are half the fun. Have a great day.🌻
I agree, but I have knit a great sweater years ago, the designer updated the version recently and removed the original version, completely changed the lower half! I emailed the designer and they told me , if I want to repeat the original version, use the one I already made as a template. ..any way.
There will be a new video for the new Clue 1 uploaded today. Also the subsequent clues will not change, so if you finished the original Clue 1, you'll be fine. If you finished the original and want to knit the new version, you don't need to frog, you should have enough yarn. I test knit this shawl, and will be knitting a second version with the new Clue 1. Fyi, none of the test knitters saw it.
I totally agree with you, it is sad. Thanks for letting us know that the original clue is gone. I will make sure I have it saved. I also printed it out. I hope I don't lose that video! ❤
i am so sad! i even did the download and it still took the video away! I wish i had just gone in and screen recorded it! i am gonna have to slog thru and figure out the OG pattern ‘on my own’ thankfully i did print the pattern. the ‘new’ version is kinda boring in comparison.
Nice colours!!! I have choosen to make the pinwheel version. As a knitter living in Netherlands, we are very in tune with the pinwheels/windmills. And also the other symbol, because WOII is very prominent in our society. We remember every year. And honestly I do not see the negative symbol in this design at all! The angles are so off for it to be it. Besides that, the symbol is actually a much older positive symbol used in ancient cultures (India, China, Native American). The word by what we know this symbol actually means: conductive to well-being in Sanskrit. It is a symbol with a bad rep, by one man from Austria... I am very curious what the rest of the MKAL will be. Will leave you with the words of my grandmother: if you search for the devil, you will find him. Meaning, that if you look for negative, you will find it.
Yea, I saw the UT video and thought I would buy the pattern as it looked fun. I bought the pattern and got version 3, boohoo. So much for personal choice, we just get his choice. It looks like a Celtic knot to me.
I agree, I think he did what he thought was the best option business-wise and to let people understand he in no way intended that symbol to be part of his joy.
I really do not like the in the round square new design release and was really enjoying the SWest’s pinwheel design. Ugh… I would have thought his testers would have let him know before all this up roar.
I believe that colors play a significant role in perception, which may explain why some individuals did not notice it. Personally, upon first glance, I noticed a Celtic Knot. However, due to my upbringing with a grandmother who constantly quilted, I also recognized it as a pinwheel quilt square.
It seems that some people are still using the original version, but with changes to the colors to make the pinwheel and knot motifs more prominent in the design. Have you looked through the Ravelry thread? You can look at only the photos, it is a lot easier to see the various designs that people have created. This link will show you only photos -⚠ just note spoiler warning :) ⚠
@@yarning4asmileWell ! That changes things I'd hoped to see it during construction ! I can't download anything right now My printer isn't being recognized 😕 My LYS is downloading my pattern for me as soon as I can get there Haven't started as I don't even know what size needles 😂 This was a last minute why not try it as the shop has a group doing it I'm sure it will work out but the results are going to be all over the place Why does politics get into everything ? Some just need to do their homework and get over themselves I have an antique quilt top that's in the windmill variation It's not finished because of public sentiment. I just saw two videos of the original Clue 1 that a couple of people had saved and put them on TH-cam.

The Facebook groups have been horrible. People are being so mean to each other... its just sad. 😕
I don’t knit but I can see the dilemma and applaud the designer for acting on his audiences views ❤

I’m sure the testers, just like thousands of us did NOT see what a select few do see, so that’s why they wouldn’t have said anything.
