This is quite possible, though it doesn't look like any psaltery that came up on Google. I think this looks more like a dulcimer, and a Google Lens search also brings up lyra harp. Only Bethesda/Zenimax knows for sure!
The "Whispering Claw" martial art style has also been referred to as the "Whispering Fang" style, specifically by Arnbjorn in the Dark Brotherhood quest "Sanctuary" Here's the quote: "I am not adorable, it was not funny, and he wasn't a merchant. He was a Khajiit monk, a master of the Whispering Fang style. But now he's dead... and I have a new loincloth." It's possible that it has more than one name but I think it's more likely that Arnbjorn was mistaken or he misspoke.
1:18:48 It's called a Psaltery:) it's an instrument similar to a zither except it's held instead of laid on one's lap or a table. Not to be mistaken for a lyre, also a smaller harp like instrument, but it's hard to due to the psaltery being very distinctly shaped lol [Edit] so I got curious where they're from causing me to do some searching and apparently the consensus is no one knows for sure, which is a fairly common story for instruments even slightly less popular, even the most wildly popular instruments can have vague pasts. At best we have a "somewhere in ancient middle eastern areas, maybe Greece more specifically due to the name being greek but Idk man" mostly because the lack of documentation for instruments usually leads to people having to go "uhh well this instrument might be a prototype or evolved form of this instrument, lets put it'd history like this"
@@Saber23why do you want to hurt, or make a person feel wrong about themselves, someone you don't even know, for a comment they made on a video? Your aggressiveness towards an unknown person is completely avoidable.
Great video, really appreciate this compilation of lore. Could just be me, but the volume of the background music competes with your voice at times, particularly when the music swells. Could just be me though.
The instrument might very well be the Qanun, which has styles similar to what is shown, and is also an instrument confirmed by the UESP thats mainly played by Khajiit. But it could be a combination of a lot of things as well, or just a more stylized version of a lyre or other stringed instrument
42:28 the Elvish God of Death is very similar to the Egyptian God Thoth, who's also a associated with Scribes, death, knowledge, and history. Its His role to judge the souls (or Ba) in the afterlife by speaking the truth & tell those who passed away about either their sins or pure attentions in life. Also the Egyptians will erase the names, records, and memories of a love one if they did a sinful or malicious acts against the Gods & the people of Egypt (or Kemet to the Egyptians) while the Pharaohs will become their own Gods in the afterlife after their deaths.
Please stop putting red lines on the bottom of your thumbnail pics. It kind of makes it look like a watched video on mobile and I don’t want to accidentally not watch one of your videos because of it!
They actually do it because must people rewatch old favorites instead of new videos. Remember hearing that on a podcast where a guest complained abt the Volgun SCP guy doing that and another TH-camr explained the idea of tricking is into playing new content to keep the creator relevant.
I believe I have a good idea for another great war speculation video that could be in the background of the next elder scrolls, or better, become the forefront. So, either the Aldmeri get attack by the sea elves or the imperials attacked by the Akaviri. When this happens, what would the other side do, attack and take advantage or defend Tamriel together? Akaviri is more obviously a serious threat but you could speculate the sea elves have a more dangerous agenda, probably influenced by a Daedra. I think this would be cool and if u do to please think about it as a video
This is almost 30 or more years of Elder Scrolls development and lore meaning this universe had time to flesh itself out. Newer franchises have a long time to go while inherited ones had a similar amount of time. In attraction and sex appeal, people who were pudgy was considered sexy until corsets were introduced and now we consider athletically built as sexy.
The funny thing about the "Overconfidence due to the blessings of the gods and their Rose" bit for me is I thought it was a reference to Arena. In Arena you could go to temples to get blessings (from Gods not really mentioned now like Seth). Now the funny thing about that is because Arena used the old school Daggerfall/Morrowind style To Hit Chances, what a blessing did was make you more likely to hit. Sounds nice. And it stacked (so you could get like 50 blessings and have automatic hits all the time for example). But due to a bug or something, Blessings were universal. So while YOU as the player got an increased chance to hit... so did literally everyone else you were in combat with. So I thought it was a subtle callback to that, where Blessings were basically a trap and players experienced that thing. "Ha ha, I'm blessed, I'm going to be OP now!" and finding out that despite their full suits of Ebony Armor and what not, every monster they ran into easily ripped through it as well.
Love your work Zork! Never useless info for us roleplayers. That being said. Have you ever considered doing a video on Tamrielic Fashion? Maybe a real life comparison, or through the ages/games? Thanks so much for your amazing vids.
Man TH-cam sucks sometimes. The timestamp feature has the option to choose the chapters straight from the timeline on most videos, but on some (such as this one) their system doesn’t register it and I have to go find the chapter links in the description. This is a big issue plaguing smaller channels for over 3 years now and youtube hasn’t done squat about it
I would really love to listen to this videos, but your speech is incredibly hard to understand. Try listen to yourself at 0.75 speed. You slur words together, sounding like you are drunk. So unfortunate.
It's kind of a shame that the newer games don't use these holidays outside of ESO, Rose, and Blades. I get why they don't. From what I understand most people really disliked in Daggerfall the fact that you could only summon a Daedric Prince one particular day every year (and you might get trolled by Sheogorath instead). Because then it means things like a Daedric Artifact isn't available on demand but actually requires knowledge and timing (and hoping you avoid like the 10% chance of Sheogorath trolling). So it seems they threw that out, and with it, all the Holidays as well. Which is kind of a shame since they don't do seasons so Holidays could be a way to actually suggest the passing of time and give your journey a little more color, you know? It's like Gary Gygax famously said, "Strict and accurate tracking of time is the most important aspect of D&D". And the Elder Scrolls ever since Arena has always wanted to be D&D like. The use of Time as a factor to things creates some of the best dynamic scenarios. If you find out something like in "Blood on the Ice" in Skyrim the Butcher's Necromantic Rituals takes place every full moon of Masser instead of "soon! Tonight even!" as the quest actually does... it forces you to take notice of things you might not have considered. Like astronomy, or what time of month it actually is. You might miss it because you wanted to go adventuring rather than waiting around, letting more bodies be taken through your negligence. Little things. Having a reason to look up at the sky instead of "I heard a dragon" for instance. Paying attention to what village you're in and the opportunities it might give like discounted weaponry or "All Crimes are Forgiven, no Halt! from the guards" or something. It can provide adventure hooks like if there's this holiday rumored about a Dragon eating kids.. does that mean there was a dragon near that village? Is there a ruin you can find with it? Has it already been looted? Hell can you use your Illusion Magic to create the Dragon's Return to terrorize people? There's a lot of things that open up when you treat the calendar as though it actually exists, instead of every day the same as every other.
I work a boring union job on night shift and these long lectures are the best.
Night crew 🎉 these long videos keep me sane, but these shelves don’t stock themselves.
I work from home, its pretty boring too, I love having these.
Be thankful you have a union job friend
2 hours of pure undilluted Elder Scrolls Lore? Well, I got nothing to do for the rest of the day!
“We don’t have any songs performed by the orcs”
Lurbuk during the dark brotherhood questline: hmm okay.. shadows creep..
The instrument at 1:18:44 is a psaltery, very similar to a modern lap harp
This is quite possible, though it doesn't look like any psaltery that came up on Google. I think this looks more like a dulcimer, and a Google Lens search also brings up lyra harp. Only Bethesda/Zenimax knows for sure!
I believe it's a form of Zither
It looks the most like either a Zither or Qanun. On the UESP, the Qanun is listed as an instrument in Elder Scrolls, mainly used by Khajiit
Watching Imperial Knowledge content - that's how you enjoy a friday evening properly
He has been carrying the elder scrolls community in 2024
These kinds of videos are my solace getting through a dreary solitary night shift; Thank you for your hard work 🙏
you really rose to the occasion for this video!!
My favourite bit was about the roses
As a khajjit main i loved all the attention they got in this lol

it could also be a unique subdiscipline of whispering claw, perhaps a more direct style based off the same original martial art

Started watching this at 7 on the 7th day of week, great stuff.
Been keeping up with your channel for a couple of years now, this video is such a treat! 🥳
Are you planning on writing a book about how to waste your time?

watching your lore vids are like finding a rose growing in a sidewalk!! always a treat to come across!!
In Creation Club the quest for the two-handed Headsman's Cleaver there is a mention of an Orc "Queen", the weapon came from Blades.
Great video, really appreciate this compilation of lore. Could just be me, but the volume of the background music competes with your voice at times, particularly when the music swells. Could just be me though.
The part about roses made me cry!
Fantastic video, thank you for all your work put into it.
'Rose' Great video, dude. Keep up the good work

Why not integrate these festivities into our everyday lives? These holidays are wholesome. I’m thinking of new family traditions!!
Sounds like a great idea! :D
1:18:44 we in Estonia call it a kannel. It's basically a lap steel combined with a lyre.
Great idea for a video! It must have a rose from somewhere deep in your mind!
This might get me back into the elder scrolls
That dragon Holliday at the start could be a cultural holdover of the dragon cult... They might be hiding from the tribute collection process.
thank you for these! please keep these collections coming

I think that square instrument around 1:17:00 is a stylized Lyre?
Rosers are red
Dunmer are blue
For the lore you have read
I sincearly thank you❤

I’ve always wondered why so many channels do that. It makes me feel the same way.
Great advice actually, I skipped this video for the last 3 days cuz I thought it was one I watched already

Amen! It really threw me off.
I almost skipped the video because of this
Hell yeah! Got a holiday on my birthday! Sun’s Rest!
Not sure what will turn more heads, me using the word Rose in this comment or admitting that I watched the whole thing on the treadmill, lol.

Is it customary to take everything that isn't nailed down from your friend's house and sell it to a shop next-door?
Uhhh, asking for a friend...
It is in New York right now.
ROSE Thanks for the lore vid!!!!!!!
Hammer Dulcimer or simply dulcimer, no joke at 1:18
Ur videos bring me so much happiness, thanks for putting so much work in them ❤
Great editing. Made all the video transitions smooth

Do you think it would charm an orc if one gives them a bloody rose?
I hope ES6 is High Rock. I want to see the Breton world and all those grand parties
I love this channel more than I can express Thank you

Top-tier research my dude. Let me guess: someone stole your sweet rose?
Rose, love these long videos
So the lusty argonian maid uses rose perfume?
I left work so I could watch this
You make me proud
I'm watching this at work 🌚
Speaking of roses, always wondered if flowers had any special meaning in the elder scrolls.
I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure that instrument was a zither it's an old Asian version of a peasant harp... But I could be wrong
"What kind of music do khajits listen to?"
Definitely ska
great video
The algorithm requires engagement
LET'S FUCKING GOO, keep them coming ma man, love from Portugal brother!
I bet dragon child eating day goes back to the time when the Nords and the dragons had an uneasy relationship

I listen to this while I built my friends new gaming PC. Not only did I beat my build record but also finished almost the same time you did.

The bit about the roses was definitely a surprise, I did not expect that about argonians.
I know what I'm going to listen to sleep in a few
This video made me feel quite rosey
Listening to Elder Scrolls lore with Witcher music in the background is doing weird things to my brain
And Kingdom Come Deliverance music at the start
For a moment, I thought he said 'Dumber' instead of 'Dunmer.'
LILAC. It was lilac, wasn't it?
