I didn't know that Sarevok was someone's player character in a D&D game. That is the great thing about the lore in D&D though. Most of the major lore figures were player characters at one time. Mordenkainen was Gary Gygax's player character, and his whole party The Circle of Eight are lore characters now. Most of the spells with a name attached are one of those characters. Bigby, Melf, Tenser, and Otiluke. I think Elminster and Tasha were to but I am not sure about them. Mordenkainen is one of the first characters ever created too. It's just so fun that if you make a big impact on the game be it by creating it, writing books about it, or making video games about it. Your characters can become a cannon lore figure.
@@RyanPick-i9nunfortunately in "minsc and boo journal of villainy" published on 05OCT2021 by wizards of the coast, saarevok becomes a priest of bhaal and irennicus lives.
I love BG3. But BG2 was the seminal video game of my life, and I can literally recite the opening monologue, AND the dreams, AND the monologue to Ellieseme. There's no beating Jon Irenicus. The glimpses of good that are twisted by eras of soullessness, the coldly pragmatic acts of horrific brutality, literally just the line "No. You'll get no villain's exposition from me." An absolutely brilliant villain.
Thank you Ghostcharm! I’m excited to see what new video you come up with, you are quickly becoming one of the many voices I have look forward to everytime something is uploaded.
Love the video! Also for Gortash, you can read about him in some books found in the cellar of the Zhentarim hideout in Waukeen's rest. The books explain he's an upstart illegal arms dealer, but you don't have any idea who it is yet. Great stuff!
I hope you do more videos like this the production value is top notch! Amazing job Id love to see some more stuff about forgotten realms characters and such!!
Just a wee missed detail about Raphael and Yurgir. Raphael actually taught the final justiciar the spell to make himself into "many" in order to try and force Yurgir into servitude (there was a clause in the contract that put him into Raphael's service if he quit out before completing his contract).
there's a lot more to a villain than just the one who does the bad stuff and serves the role of 'antagonist', its the good person in the room with the daring ideas or the bad person in the room that you somehow let finish a sentence despite what a monster they are, or could be. A villain's got your focus, your motivation, and sometimes, your purpose. 💀✨
In my head cannon, the sarevok we meet in bg3 is just the fragment of bhaals essence that died, and that his physical form is still out there living his life.
as a transformers fan sarevok's voice is so cool to me. he voices bulkhead in transformers prime (which is considered one of the best transformers cartoons plotwise) and it's so cool hearing what basically sounds like bulkhead but Evil saying these hardcore things like threatening dudes and sacrificing people
The writing in early Bioware games was impeccable. One of the main things why those games were and still are so addictive. Jon Irenicus is just the Ultimate Villain. P.S. in polish localisation of BG2 Irenicus is even more amazing.
I feel people really underrate the iron throne side quest. Saving everyone in that prison isn't easy and it takes genuine planning and thinking if you intend to save everyone down there. In my opinion its the most genuinely heroic quest in the entire game. Your goal isn't killing bandits, or monsters, or such things. Your goal is to somehow save an enumerable amount of people with very little precious time. And if you manage to save everyone from the prison, its genuinely an accomplishment cause of how tedious and difficult it can be. Doing that quest I felt like a true hero faced with impossible odds to rescue people directly, and my own limitations would be to blame if even one of them died.
The Zhents (now the Zhenterim) are a mercantile group that had it's origin in Zhentil Keep, a city/quasi-empire that followed Bane zealously. I wouldn't be surprised if Goretash found Bane through his dealings with the black market, from some old-guard Zhent who was unhappy with it's new, rather unfaithful iteration.
Sarevok and Irenicus are interesting contrasting villains. Sarevok, despite all the heinous things he does, isn't a fundamentally innately evil person (as exemplified by the fact that you can, y'know, redeem him) and is mostly just a product of the situation in which he was raised. Like the vision you have in the pocket plane says, if he'd been the one taken by Gorion and had the stable, healthy upbringing you had, he'd most likely have turned out a perfectly decent person. Irenicus, on the other hand, had the polar opposite of Sarevok's upbringing - he had literally EVERYTHING - and he went "y'know what? I deserve even more, I think". A victim of circumstance who - at least at first - started seeking power to get more control over his own life, versus someone who sought power for no reason other than he felt he deserved even more than the immense power he already had.
@3:52:00 that’s why I like Orin tbh. Almost every other character can be reasoned with in one way or another, but you simply have to make her catch these hands nothing more nothing less lmao
Can we get more Fallout Villains well? Maybe the robot A.I from Tactics? Or the Fallout 4 Institute people er... robots. Maybe Diablo series big bads next?
Genuine question as I have not finished BG1 or BG2 but is Sarevok's turn to a less evil and malicous life the canon ending of the game or just one of many ways that game can end. Larian worked with Wizards of the Coast on the lore and world building. Not that that means everything they did or touched was necessarily a great decision.
One of the worst parts of BG3 is its over reliance on the first two games for fan service. The other is basically just the fandom shitting on anything that doesn't meet their headcannon.
you guys asked for it so here it is, sleep well my children💙
Villain lore but a hero upload
Thanks ghost

Bhaals deep into BG Lore
Underrated comment 😂
I hate this, but I respect that you had the Bhaals to make it.
What you did there... I saw it.

I love this joke
The mad lad did it. Dropped a 5 hour lore video while I work overtime and need something to listen to.

Elminster was in fact Ed Greenwoods alter ego in The Realms, I don't know if he ever played him in a campaign.
Sarevok Going back to Bhaal's cult after the whole redemption arc is giving Jamie Lannister going back to Cersei in season 8.
They ruined him in BG3, such a diservice to him
Thanks, i will sleep to this Baldurs Gate lore multiple times until I can no longer tell what is real and what is fantasy.
Kudos! You rock. Have fun!
I just woke up, but i guess its time for bed now.
No lies here

BG3 was a slap in the face to Sarevok.
FR
I haven’t even played the other games but the way his was portrayed in bg3 destroyed his character development from bg1 to bg2
Wizards decided to have him come back to evil in the misc and bo book, so larian had their hands tied i belive

Omg yes thank you I already use your video to fall asleep (after having watching them awake obviously) you have such a soothing voice !!

You sold me when you said Baldurs gate is on Switch. Think I'll grab it this weekend. Obrigado!
My head canon of what we see of Sarevok in BG3 is the energy released from his death remade as a tool of Bhaal.

Love the new brief opening words and how they welcome each villain. It makes each video feel tied together. 👌
Thank you, this is what I needed for work today
My man, what a masterful video. I agree on every point with as much passion as you expressed.
Earned subscription. Thank you for the lore, Lore Master Ghostcharm hallowed be thy name. *kneels*

Not sure how much of this I’m going to get through but I’m definitely going to thank you in advance

I cannot wait to listen to this as I start to lock in on my classes.
Finding out that David effing Warner voices Irenicus is enough to convince me to try it.
Love the Human WC3 music out of nowhere in Jon's section XD
