I’d have definitely put one above the door too. To only would it look better but provide even more storage. Great job. It looks fantastic
Yes! Actually I wish we’d done that as well. Maybe one day 🙈 thank you so much 🫶🏼
@@KatjaNordkvist still looks amazing! And the added storage space is a great bonus. It was done very well
Another cabinet floating above the door would be an amazing built is cove look with a deep cased opening. Could be useful storage for winter items!
Probably one of my favorite how to videos. After all I’ve watched I don’t think I’ve seen many be so specific and it’s my first time hearing about the need to include the depth of the doors in the side paneling which makes so much sense but is something I definitely would have overlooked.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for taking your time to write this 🙏🏼 so glad you like it!
very helpful especially for the floor platform thanks
Absolutely brilliant job. Your attention to detail and planning resulted in a high grade, professional job
They are so beautiful and gorgeous closet! I love your molding and wall color. Excellent job!!
Aaaw, thank you so much!
Thank you for all the explanation and videos showing how you guys did everything. It looks great 🎉
You’re welcome! I’m so glad you like it, thank you 🙏🏼🤍
@@KatjaNordkvist would you be able to provide the link for the brass cabinet knobs? Thanks. They look great
I have a similar project coming up in my daughter's bedroom so this video has been very useful. Thank you 😊
Wonderful! So happy to hear that 😄
Very thorough explanation. Thanks a lot !
You’re welcome! And thank you 🙏🏼
Waoo I'm so glad to find your video
Thank you for telling me, that’s great to hear 🙏🏼
Awesome job
Thank you!
thats not a hack thats a full scale carpenter work
Sorry 🙈 well yes, hack kinda implies that it’s fast and easy. It’s definitely not and it takes a lot of work, time and consideration 😅 but it’s worth it in the end!
Hi Katja, big fan of your projects, thank you for the guidance! Is there any link to all the screws, paint etc you used for the project?
Very nice video and I like the "old school" tools Jonathan used. You all must be based in Europe; I detect a slight Scandinavian accent and the metric measurements roll off your tongue very easily! :)
Thank you so much! Yes, we’re from Denmark 😄
Can I ask what the platform is for? We’re looking at something similar but didn’t know a platform is needed.
Thanks, very helpful ❤
That’s so good to hear, thank you 🙏🏼🤍

Thanks Katja for this super informative and easy to follow instructional video! You mention you painted the door fronts months before, was it quite easy to paint the Sannidal doors? Did you only use a primer or did you need to sand them first? Thanks so much!
Thanks a lot for this video, very helpfull for my closet project. I have a question about the platform, how is it fixed on the floor ? Thanks :)
So good to hear! It’s not actually, it’s fixed to the wall 😊
Lovely👍🏻🇦🇺
Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Best video on ikea hack I’ve seen! Looks incredible, if I may ask, can you please send a link of where you got the crown molding, is it dentil crown molding made out of foam? Link or name please. Thank you! ❤
Thank you so much!! What a nice comment! This is the exact one that we got: www.d-cor.dk/produkter/stuklister/taklist-z104?gad=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvKHG087ygAMVlFORBR0ncAhvEAQYAiABEgL-i_D_BwE
It is made of polyurethan which has a hard surface 😊
thank you! I've watched your video several times. Love it! @@KatjaNordkvist
Hi
Can you please share how you painted the cabinets and doors? And what products you used? Thanks!
I sanded all of it before painting and then I used a regular square brush to prime all of it with a primer called Jotun heftegrunning. Then I used Jotun Supreme finish paint (medium glossy) and painted all of it twice. That’s it 😄
Barrell fasteners work better when attaching units.
Yes! But that’s also the ones we used 😅
Where are those doorknobs from? Love them.
Where is the moulding from?
Can I borrow your husband for a weekend please 😂
Haha, unfortunately not, I need him for more projects 😂😂

Hi! Thanks for all the cool inspiration! I'm making a project similar to yours and have a few questions. First, around 12:40, you say that for the doors to be in the right position when closed you need to put in a shelve on the other side. What do you mean by that? Another question: in the video you say that the base is 140x55cm, but since it's sticking out, it must be a little more than that? like 56,6 deep? (cabinet + door) and how thick is the MDF you used? somewhere in the video you say it's 16 mm but it looks thinner. Hope you can help me! :)
Hi! You’re welcome, thanks for watching 🙏🏼
1) If you don’t put in the shelf, the doors will kind of lean inwards a little bit, and not be aligned with the other doors. They need the “support” of the shelf.
2) It is 140 x 55 cm but we put a piece of MDF on the outside which is 16 mm but you can also just build a base/platform completely out of MDF that measures 140 x 56,6 cm. That’s probably easier in many ways 😄 We just had some extra wood and decided to use that for the platform and put the 16 mm MDF piece on the outside afterwards.
3) the piece on the bottom is 16 mm thick, the pieces on the sides are thinner - 12 mm if I remember correctly!
@@KatjaNordkvist thanks so much!
What is your rough estimate of how much the entire project costed you?
About 1000 EUR 😅 probably a little less since the PLATSA cabinets doesn’t cost that much!
What’s your honest thoughts on this after use for a while now? Are they still steady and in good shape? 😅 ❤
They are, yes! But the PAX drawers are better quality than these PLATSA. No doubt 😅 but nothing has broken (yet) so I’m optimistic 😅🤍
Hej! I also have a Platsa wardrobe and would like to paint the trims/molding I am applying to the doors and shelves.
Any tips on finding the perfect paint that matches the existing Ikea color?
Thanks!
Hej! 😄 Yes, I know of a few TH-camrs who also did this to avoid painting the whole cabinet. There’s something about it in this guide: emmacourtneyhome.com/painting-ikea-pax-and-other-furniture/
What kind of drawers did you choose, I can’t find them on the Germany ikea side
Thank you
This is the drawer: www.ikea.com/de/de/p/hjaelpa-schublade-ohne-front-weiss-60330979/
This is the drawer front: www.ikea.com/de/de/p/sannidal-schublade-weiss-weiss-s39437835/
The width of the drawer that I got is 80 cm. You’re welcome 🫶🏼☺️
@@KatjaNordkvist Thank you very much ❤️
You should know that Platsa design comes with hardware to stack to each other and secure it...and dont need to screw in wirh each other. This is to avoid the cabinet to crack
I know, I saw them in the packages, but we preferred to use some other hardware to do that 😊
In real life platsa cupboards are dog shyte, the quality is incredibly low for something coming from IKEA. In your video, it looks nice. Well done.
Having been to IKEA, I'm never buying platsa stuff, unless and until they improve it.
The quality is lower than their Pax wardrobes, I think so too! Thank you! I think all the extra MDF makes it feel more sturdy, because the platsa cabinets themselves are made of a very light material and thus feel kinda fragile. But I like how the drawers feel when pulling them out!
🥰🥰🥰
Isn’t this super expensive?
Not really, I think we spent about 800 EUR on the whole project. Maybe a little less or a little more. And it’s a lot of storage!
Not buying a saw? All the projects you have? Really?
step one: have that much money
Well yes, of course? No one expects projects like this to be free.

Looks great. ❤ and great video. I’ll be following for more. Where in Denmark do you live?
Thank you so much! I live just about 40 minutes south of Copenhagen 😄
I figured.. ☺️ you'r very good at designing you'r appartement. I've wanted to do something like that in my house for years. I live in vestjylland btw. New to youtube. ✋ It's not as easy as it looks. 😅
Hi i really like your video. But i still didn't understand what kind of doors you've been used in your project? It looks much better than ikea doors.
Hi, thank you 🫶🏼 the doors are also from IKEA (I just painted them) and they’re called SANNIDAL.
Si sad we don’t have platsa in us :(
You don’t? That really sucks! 😬 I hope they’ll introduce PLATSA in the US as well soon!
Well that sucks! I was excited about finally finding something that would work in my basement bedroom under the low ceilings. Pax units are too tall. I didn't want to have to cut them down and figure out how to get the doors to fit but it looks like that's what I'm going to have to do. :(
Yeah, not in the US
This is so helpful !!!
That’s so good to hear!
very stylish
Thank you 🙏🏼🤍
I love this so much - beautiful - quick question - do you do all of the cabinets instead of closets or do you have both?
Thank you so much 🙏🏼 Can you explain further? I’m not sure I understand the question 🤍
