Suuuure. I've seen so many cases of that happening, including one that was right in front of the sales clerk's face in a gas station/convenience store. Pull on ALL of them, and check for pieces of plastic hanging out, or the numbers not pressing right, because you never know. And definitely don't risk using the ones located outside. I was shocked when I saw that a McDonald's employee had skimmed a drive-thru customer's card and stolen all her money. But the customer came back and told her she knew it was her, and she got her fired. Bahaha!! I only use the McDonald's app or cash, never handing my card to anyone. My cards are also protected in an RFID wallet. It's pathetic we have to live like this, but that's life today.
always have at least 2 checking accounts at the same bank as the account that gets your payroll deposit. you can just do an internal transfer which is instant into the other account as you spend money, if it ever gets compromised it wont touch your payroll where most of your money is gonna be sitting at. there still is the weak point of your login information to get the payroll account info but generally most people with common sense dont end up giving those away.

I saw the unauthorized charges come from a grocery store in my home area that I often go to, but i was not aware of the charges made where they took my last snap benefits. Was it the location itself who skimmed me? Because this store keeps their card swiper close to them so I doubt someone would get away with adding a piece to their device…
This shit just happened to me. Within 5 minutes they withdrew my entire account. Bank says it could take up to 90 days to get my money back. In the meantime my car got towed, then I got a flat tire. My life sucks right now. But at least now I know what to look for.

The businesses should be liable to lawsuits for that. They should have countermeasures against this sort of stuff. Sometimes you’ll find it’s an employee that puts it on there, because they have the most access to the machines. In either case, the company should be held liable. Just like if someone slips on ice in front of a business - which forces the business to take countermeasures to prevent that from happening. There should be companies they can hire to come around checking the equipment every so often to ensure this doesn’t happen. 🤷♂️
