@@promemesabsolutely true. When I was living with my five kids in a hotel because our landlord sold our rental house with little notice and I couldn’t afford the deposit on a new rental, my business partner and I were building and selling websites. She also had five kids to support. We got scammed by someone from India who bought a site and then claimed to PayPal he never got it. I contacted him and told him my situation, and that if I didn’t get that money back I couldn’t pay the hotel bill and we would be homeless. He said, “But you live in America where everyone is rich. I live in India and this is the only way I can pay to send my child to school.” I said, “But your child has a home and mine do not! Karma will punish you for this!” And he said, “That may be so, but I will take my punishment so that my child can have what I do not.” He didn’t care at all what he did to me and my children. If you purchase something online and someone shows up with a card swiper console, it's probably a scam.

This is why every time an elderly person’s card declines at my register they ask me if they’re going to be charged twice 🤦♀️ dude I literally cannot charge you twice. That’s not how this works.
Don’t shop on random websites.
That being said, the sites do sometimes ask you to resubmit your card information if a card with a new account number, security code, or expiration date has been issued.
And if you’re being declined, contact your bank or issuer to see what’s happened.
(From a former credit and debit card/bank customer service employee)
If this is only an online scam, why the hell are you showing point of sale devices being used? Online is not the same as using a card reader for purchase.

How have we “fallen” for the scam? How is this our fault? I take issue with how he said that. Life isn’t any fun anymore because all we can do each day is look for scams, people lurking in parking lots, shooters in malls……
This is a terrible story. Never use a debit card to pay (charge) for anything! That's your money, once stolen you will never get the money back.
No false. Most banks will be on your side when you get charged for things you didn't authorized. It's best to be smart about it and just have a separate account for online transactions. That way if a scam does happen, you can easily call the bank, start a fraud claim, and simply close the account out and lose only the amount you were going to spend anyways until the bank can investigate and charge it back.

Regular people have more than one card?
Yes, we do, especially attractive when they typically offer something like $200 cash if you spend $1000 in the first 6 months, interest-free for 16 months, no annual fee. One of mine was $200 cash for spending $500, since I buy $500 worth of dogfood for my dogs at a time it was EASY to meet the requirement, collect the cash, and then invest the money in dividend paying stock while enjoying interest-free use for 16 months and paying them off before that ends.
So the credit cards' money is earning money in dividends for me, while I purchased a bunch of things I needed for the house interest free.
Thank You .

@MaryLopez-bv7ks no. You register and pay for your CC, and the company (for instance, Revolut) offers, as a service, the one-off CCs, explicitly and specifically for the purpose of safe online shopping.
