      yeah, lonzo recovered at the pelicans, had a great start with the bulls and then injuries buried him. superstar, no. but with his defense, playmaking and a way better shot than at the start of his nba career he would have had a good shot at becoming a star, maybe with an all-star nomination here and there depending on conference and availalibility of competitors. Think Jrue Holiday.

    It's amazing to me that after watching players like Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, Desmond Bane, Trey Murphy, Keegan Murray, and Jalen Williams post absurdly efficient college statlines, we continue to undervalue efficiency when assessing draft prospects. NBA scouts all want to draft the next Anthony Edwards -- in other words, a guy who played poorly in college but whose physical tools translated to NBA success -- but that's just not realistic. Most of these "untapped potential" guys sucked in college for a reason. They're not good. Meanwhile, dudes who are posting 50/40/90 as college freshmen or sophomores while playing against grown men are devalued because they're not as exciting as the untapped-potential guys. Obviously, that didn't happen quite as much with Sheppard. He was still drafted 3rd. But two untapped-potential guys went ahead of him.

    Reed has now played in 4 regular season NBA games. He played for only 3 minutes the first game, he got 6 minutes in the second, 13 minutes in the third, and 16 minutes in the last game. He is shooting 33.3% from the field and averaging 1.8 assists in very limited playing time. I hope his playing minutes keep going up like they seem to be.

    Repping my hometown! Trust me the kid can play he has a very high basketball IQ and is extremely smart that's probably what sets him apart from everyone else the most and that's one of the reasons why he'll be so good. For everyone that's writing him off you're going to be eating your words. He should have been the number 1 over all pick and I think he's going to be the rookie of the year and I think he will go on to be one of the best point guards to play the game as long as he can stay healthy. I'm telling you right now this kid has the potential to be one of the all time great point guards.

      JJ Reddick? Please tell me you're joking. JJ Reddick isn't even worth mentioning except for his 3-point shot, and he only created his shots from catching and being on the move. • @tuckerchisholm1005
      @tuckerchisholm1005 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Obviously. White players from eastern europe and players from the Congo get scouted for more than precious metals. But any white player from the USA is never gonna be sought after or respected. This will never change, but the American white guys will succeed nonetheless. Reed Sheppard, Cooper Flagg, etc

    • @ninocrown3247
      @ninocrown3247 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Guess you had to throw in “short”, as Cooper Flagg would debunk your narrative. It’s way back in the day, but Rex Chapman was a 6’4 White guy who went to Kentucky with a 39 inch vertical and was a Top 10 recruit out of HS. Rex was drafted 8th in the 1988 NBA draft. Reed is a better shooter, but Rex had a J.
      So this notion American White guys are ignored by the American sports media who ranks HS players & college scouts is ahistorical. Who do you think owns most of those media outlets that ranks players like Rivals?
      Steph Curry wasn’t ranked high in HS, which is why he ended up at Davidson. He also had a dad who was ex-NBA like Reed. Let’s not play the race card buddy. Ja Morant is another player who wasn’t ranked very high his senior year, which is why he ended up at Murray St.

    • @PolitiCasts
      @PolitiCasts 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @ninocrown3247 I know it's an uncomfortable truth, but it doesn't make it not true. White American born basketball players have to overcome the unfair stigma of being seen as not as athletic as the black guys, but also not being as cerebral as the European white guys.
      Rex Chapman was almost 40 years ago... The last time the NBA has had a white, American born NBA on an all star team was Brad Miller over 20 years ago in the early 2000's.
      It was a very similar and unfounded stigma that black quarterbacks had in football for the longest time. Anyway, it is statisically more difficult for a white, American born player to make it in the NBA than an American born black guy.

    What I love about this years rookies is that (IMO) the most intriguing rookies are not gonna be stars on their team, but instead will be get a smaller role on good teams that might make a jump because of their Rookies. Zach Edey, Reed Sheppard, Dalton Knecht, Rob Dillingham. The last two will probably play a role too small to win RotY, but Edey and Sheppard are my favourites. If they play good minutes with good productivity and their team makes the playoffs, I think they should win. This is also how you make better NBA players. These dudes should learn how to play the game before they can become a star.
    Imo this is also why it was so infuriating to me that Wemby won RotY. He had better numbers, but he was also the only good player on his team, and his inclusion had a net 0 impact, as the Spurs won the same amount of games as the year before. You cannot tell me that Chet Holmgren was not the most important rookie of that season. His team went from play-in to 1st seed and the biggest difference on that roster was him. He was not out there to score 20 point a night, he was out there to win games and he did that shit.

    It’s crazy how these traits make you a lottery pick and being like 4 inches shorter you don’t make the high school team. My son is going to hate me because I’m going to tell him from day 1 just shoot the ball and always be in the drive way. I have these traits at 32 now but I was too quiet back then and not 6 ft tall.
    We were really obsessed with the flashy plays in the mid 2000s but people are starting to realize the way the warriors played and the way UCONN just won another chip is how the game is meant to be played.
    But Reed is 6 3 not 5 10 so you know he can dunk and all that. Ironically I fell on a kid once when I was 18 playing in church league closing out a 3. He didn’t expect me to close him that fast and I didn’t know how to come down from that height.
    I just don’t want my son to be limited in any way or to not find his potential. I have ball players in my family and he deserves to make it if that’s what he decides to do.

    Ion think the Wizards messed up by not taking him, I still think Sarr is the better player, and through pre season, he looks like your typical rookie because now he has to fall into a role backing up the backcourt for Houston. Hes gonna be a really nice player, but until they move off VanVleet he’s gonna be your typical bench guy
