My favorite like that is the '99 draft.
A bit overpowered with some true All-Stars at the top (of a re-draft) with guys like Elton Brand, Richard Hamilton, and Manu, plus Baron Davis and Lamar Odom right below that... Steve Francis a classic talent>production guy... but after those, you could still fill out your team with nice starters or key role players like Shawn Marion, Andrei Kirilenko, Ron Artest, Andre Miller, Wally Szczerbiak, Jason Terry, James Posey, Jeff Foster, Devean George, plus undrafted Raja Bell...
I mean, if you were a team like DEN (a legit contender, but not as deep as the BOS, OKC types) who just needed depth, imagine the '99 draft allowing you to get AK47 and then Raja Bell in the 2nd round! (I'm not counting Manu in the late 2nd, that's unfair.)

1:51 you could have done a better job with the data. Eg draft class by aggregate all star class by itself isn’t very useful. Lebron accounts for literally 1/3 of the 60 selections you cite. That paints an ENTIRELY different story when you add the caveat that 3 players account for just shy of 3/4 of the total selections.

Magloire is maybe the worst, least-deserving all-star in NBA history. It's not just easy to say that now, 20 years later. Him being on the all-star team was a joke *at the time.* I distinctly remember John Hollinger writing articles for ESPN about how overrated Magloire was, and how hollow his numbers were- and his numbers weren't even that good.
The reason Magloire made the all-star team that one year is because that era- the early 2000's was the worst era in NBA for the center position. There was basically two good centers in the entire league. Shaq and Yao. Both of whom played in the West. That Jamaal Magloire was for a brief little moment the second or third best center in the Eastern Conference is not an illustration of him being good. It's an illustration of the absolute dearth of talent at the center position in the early 2000s. Indeed, that was the very last year the Hornets were in the Eastern Conference. If his career-best 13 and 10 per game had happened year later, they'd have been in the West, and he would have been nowhere near the all-star team.
So yeah, the dude is lucky as hell to call himself an all-star. He did play very well in the actual all-star game though, I'll give him that. 19 points. But then again, these are famously the games where nobody ever plays defense, so It's a pretty hollow accomplishment.

Kaniel Dickens (no 50) was the big star of the Ukrainian team Cherkasy Monkees back in the mid 2000’s. They visited Luleå, Sweden for a pre-season tournament in 2006. On our team was a 19-year-old Jonas Jerebko. He locked Dickens down almost completely periodically during the one or two games they played. I was the team photographer back then and I have this funny picture of Dickens giving Jerebko the evil eye from pure annoyance over the pesky teenager constantly being in his face. Little did he know about what would become of this kid.

Furthermore, Many of the other high picks, like Stromile Swift and Darius Miles, struggled to make a significant impact in the league. "The 2000 NBA Draft is infamous for producing very few stars, with most players failing to live up to expectations. It’s widely regarded as one of the weakest drafts ever, with Kenyon Martin, the No. 1 pick, being the most notable player in a class largely marked by busts and underwhelming careers."
This gives context and highlights the overall disappointment of the draft class.

I remember this draft well. Even in the first season, you never got a vibe that any of those players would be great. Martin was the best one out of all of them but he only looked good because he played with Jason Kidd when he was at his peak. Honestly the next few drafts were bad as well. This was probably why they changed the rules 5 or 6 years later. Hardly any of those guys could not shoot a jump shoot to save their lives.
This class and the next few classes after were the reason the 04 Olympic basketball team lost 3 games and only won the bronze medal. Its the worst basketball team ever put together. It was so bad that they had to bring in D Wade, Lebron, and Carmelo Anthony after just their first year in the league.

But I think it was more they were right in the middle of the stars who blossomed in the mid to late nineties and the great players in the early 2000s. Just a reminder that Mark Aguirre averaged 30/6/5 one year and didn't come close to all NBA even though he carried a team with almost no talent not just to the playoffs but a series win. With a mediocre pt guard, no center, no power forward, no stretch-4, just Aguirre carrying a team of minor leaguers and Blackman chipping in. And after his great College and Dallas career, 2 titles, he's not in the Hall. And you think Rondo and Lowry are better? Please....

While the 2000 class was obviously the worst, I feel like sometimes, getting good complimentary players are important too. Michael Redd was a very good player, basically a Ray Allen or Allen Houston type shooter. Kenyon Martin was a pretty decent big man. Hedo was a good complimentary player and Jamal was a great 6th man, probably the best ever. You always need someone like Mike Miller, that makes defenses pay if they double the star by hitting the open shot.

The 1973 class was before my time, but that must be in the running for worst ever. 1972 was pretty lousy too. It didn’t help that the nba expanded too fast from 9 teams in 1965 to 17 in 1972, while the ABA siphoned off some of the best young talent.
The 2000 class was the worst in my lifetime, but this league has had clusters of weak crops of talent. 2000 was bad on its own, but it was sandwiched between 1999 and 2001, which weren’t great either. The drafts from 1988-91 were all pretty low on impact players after an outstanding stretch from 1984-87.
