I agree. Reggie Miller perhaps thinks so as well (Dan Patrick interview) but doesn't believe Ron Artest would agree to it. However, maybe time heals all wounds?
As a Pacers fan, this event is one of the things that pisses me off the most! The Pacers had fought for SO LONG to be a consistent contending team. And, now, they were the best team in the NBA. Then, childish tempers ruined it all! We will never know how good the Pacers might have been, without the malice at the Palace.
Yep for sure the league let it happen.. things occurred before this and nothing done.. the league is so stupid collecting money and forget real ethics..
Pistons fans started I am sorry piston fans but if that fan never threw that beer Artest would have been one of the best two player ever I said one of the that one piston fan started
It definitely brings up a what if scenario. Given Ron artests god given talent defensively, it looked like his career path was headed towards a kawhi Leonard/Jimmy butler type improvement. He won’t be remembered like that, but I remember.
Artest did get his ring later on though and cleaned himself up. The Pistons would fall apart after that 05 season. So yeah...the Malice at the PAalce did damage to both teams.
This was the most intense rivalry in the NBA in the early 2000s. This incident killed in the Pacers franchise for several years, and put a dagger in any chance of them being a dynasty. The Pistons and Pacers hated each other back then. You have to remember, this incident happened just 5 months after the 2003-2004 Eastern Conference Finals when the Pistons eliminated the favored Pacers. The Pacers had won 61 games that season, they were the number 1 overall seed in the playoffs, and many believed they were the favorite to win the NBA title. Ron Artest was playing like a top 3 player in the NBA, they had a deep bench, Jermaine O Neal was a baller, Stephen Jackson was a baller, Jamaal Tinsley was a baller. They were a complete and solid team on both sides of the ball. Fast forward 5 months later. The Pacers were the favorites once again to win the of the Eastern Conference. Jermaine O'Neal was solidifying himself as a MVP candidate. Ron Artest would've easily won Defensive Player of the Year. They already steamrolled out the gate to a solid record, and they took it to the Pistons in this game. Slaughtered them, and the game wasn't even close. Then the Malice at the Palace happens. This incident killed the Pacers season, they fell off a cliff, and they never would be the same again after this. In fact they wouldn't have a winning record until the 2011-12 7 years later. Had this incident not happened, I think the Pacers would've been a dynasty team much like what the Warriors have been. They were that damn good.
I’m sorry but I don’t think Ron Artest did anything wrong 1) He committed a normal/hard foul and it didn’t deserve Ben Wallace to push him. Ben Wallace let his emotions get the best of him and pushed Artest. 2) Artest tried to remove himself from the equation and he did as best he could. He lied down on the scores table. 3) The problem seemed solved but then a man threw beer on Artest and Artest responded. I don’t care who would’ve thrown the beer but I believe if you throw a beer on someone you deserve to get an ass whoopin. 4) He punched a fan on the court. There may have been no excuse to do this but we don’t necessarily know yet. The fan could’ve said something and tbh the fan shouldn’t have been on the court anyway so then again it was the fans fault. 5) He tried to get into the locker room and got more beer thrown at him. So yes I do believe Artest could’ve handled his emotions better but still I believe to this day that Artest didn’t do anything wrong. (Just my opinion, please do come at for this)
Artest shouldnt have run into the stands, but if someone throws a beer at you, after you've just been pushed and a fight close to breaking out, emotions are high. That fucking fan shoulda been banned for life and forced to pay some of the medical costs of the other fans that got hurt that day, because HE'S the one who started the worst part of that whole incident.
I don't blame artest he wasn't trying to fight but cool off if someone threw some shit at me I'd be ready to go too and then when I'm trying to leave someone gets in my way Fuck that he's a man and any man would be pissed, he may be a celebrity but he's a human with emotion not some basketball robot

+Rainbow Senpai inciting is the act of motivating people to riot he provoked a riot. but he didn't even start the chain reaction it he got jail then every pistons fan that though beer should of also got jail
None of u guys realize how dangerous a brawl like this is. Writing comments about how you would like to have been there are just pathetic... y‘all soft Internet Boys would probably die after a punch by artest
I was 10 years old at the time and I remember this game because I watched it on TV. Let me tell you, it was crazy to say the least. Ben Wallace was dealing with the death of his brother (according to Stephen Jackson) and it takes a LOT to get him (Ben) pissed off. Reggie Miller went over to Artest and put his hand on his chest while he was on the scores table to calm him down. Long story short, I will never forget it.
This was when the NBA was entertaining from a fans POV. You had these heated rivalries and everyone hated each other. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT COMPETITION?????
You didn't mention that this is the major reason why the refs became stricter and continue to hinder the physicality of the league to this very day. The funny thing is, a player attacking a fan is nothing new in the NBA. In Game 6 of the 1981 ECF between the Celtics and Sixers at Philadelphia, Boston's Cedric Maxwell physically attacked an old guy in the crowd for something that the latter said. Yet even though there was shouting between the fans and players, the situation didn't mindlessly escalate into a brawl. Afterwards, Maxwell didn't even get a technical and was allowed to stay in the game as well as the rest of the postseason, inexplicably robbing Larry Bird of that year's Finals MVP.
That smug look on greens face when someone else is getting whooped up on for something he knows he did makes me wish jail was more like prison for his sake. How evil.
I remember at the time that the word "baller" was synonymous with terms like "shot-caller" and rappers would use it hand-in-hand with metaphors to signal that they literally took peoples' lives, and how that attitude eventually carried into mainstream sports.
There was a commentator that stated "Ben Wallace overreacted to a basic hard foul" nobody ever made that point. People blame Artest but he did what anyone would've done in his position.
Wallace literally lost his mom just days prior to the game and he wasn’t even supposed to play because of it..., him reacting like that was wrong but overall understandable cause of what he was going through at the time
@@jaggerelliott3621 I'm just pointing out that it wasn't Artest fault like everyone tried to make it. He wasn't the antagonist, he actually walked away and de-escalated.
ohhh for sure, he didn’t make a move to engage back at Wallace after he pushed him in the face which was huge cause he just walked away and didn’t react, I’m just saying none of the players are to blame for the start of the that night cause it was really the fans who instigated it by throwing shit
His shove only indirectly led to the whole fiasco. It was completely out of his own will that Artest went into the stands. If nothing happened after, it would've have made any news. For that reason, he didn't deserve anything more.
Thanks for the video! Keep up the good work! Now I understand those events. The videos are like from 80's LOL. I watched NBA the and as I remember the quality wasn't this bad then...
I knew something was gonna happen when Ron Artest was laying on the scorer's table but these events took it beyond 10. I don't feel sorry for the 2 fans who got on the court. They would got knocked the F#$$$D out

Correct that to "If Ron hadn't reacted to the beer throw like a barbaric animal" and your comment is correct.
It definitely brings up a what if scenario. Given Ron artests god given talent defensively, it looked like his career path was headed towards a kawhi Leonard/Jimmy butler type improvement. He won’t be remembered like that, but I remember.
That may be true, but that dude wasn't from detroit, he was from a suburb.
BejahiCanuckGuitar if someone's directly threw a beer at your face, you would be mad wouldn't you?
BejahiCanuckGuitar you've got to be a Democrat
I don’t feel bad about the other pistons fans I only feel bad for the guy Ron tackled
That was the wrong guy
great information/lesson, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Mike Korzemba I LOVED IT TOO AND I LOVE YOU
T felt like Ben Wallace should have had a longer suspension because he started the fight
What? He fought with OTHER PLAYERS, you moron!
But he didn’t start the brawl lol
Artest did get his ring later on though and cleaned himself up. The Pistons would fall apart after that 05 season. So yeah...the Malice at the PAalce did damage to both teams.
Not really the Pistons from 02 to the 07-08 season went to six straight Eastern conference finals
I think James Harden would beg to differ
Ian Sey but still only won one ring.
True. But the Pacers were totally lost after that night. The Pistons were still competing at a high level, the Pacers not so much.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching out of shape civilians get the shit kicked out of them by professional athletes - Bill Burr
I love the NBA, and I love learning about the past. Mike you have a great channel... I do like the shirt

Yeaaah go pacers! But i'm a purdue fan, lol
Do a "What if the Malice at the Palace never happened" video.
Artest would be a top defender of all time
Nobody would hate the pacers
@@jiggy2872 *people would actually know who the pacers are
*J.R Smith going the wrong way in the 2018 NBA finals!*
I’m sorry but I don’t think Ron Artest did anything wrong
1) He committed a normal/hard foul and it didn’t deserve Ben Wallace to push him.
(Just my opinion, please do come at for this)
Well said
Why did the fan that threw the beer get such a week ban. People need to quit blaming meta world peace for this
Ben Wallace’s mother had just died so his emotions were all over the place. Ron arrest should have stayed on the floor and not went in the stands
JB Football agreed
Artest shouldnt have run into the stands, but if someone throws a beer at you, after you've just been pushed and a fight close to breaking out, emotions are high. That fucking fan shoulda been banned for life and forced to pay some of the medical costs of the other fans that got hurt that day, because HE'S the one who started the worst part of that whole incident.
I don't blame artest he wasn't trying to fight but cool off if someone threw some shit at me I'd be ready to go too and then when I'm trying to leave someone gets in my way Fuck that he's a man and any man would be pissed, he may be a celebrity but he's a human with emotion not some basketball robot
agreed
Artest had a nigga moment

Nigga moment and keeping it real aint a good combo

The best moment in sports history
I watched this on tv live when I was about 10, me and my dad fuckin loved it, and I was an artest fan til he retired, awesome moment unless ur from detroit
the nba was ratchet back then
throwing beer- 30 days prison
physical violence- community service seems like a fair justice system
That's america for ya it's not like that elsewhere you know
He didn't just "throw beer." He incited a riot.
^^
+Rainbow Senpai inciting is the act of motivating people to riot
he provoked a riot. but he didn't even start the chain reaction it he got jail then every pistons fan that though beer should of also got jail
Him throwing the beer started the fight which led to the riot.
The bedroom gives me nostalgic 90s vibes, looks so familiar with the wallpaper border. :)

Well done with the back story and chronological lead-in to that infamous night in sports history.
'04 Artest = Current Day Kawhi
Kawhi jus didn't get to that point in his career where he starts to take over games but he is in the spurs so that is kinda hard
artest is better only because he's fucking insane
+sweatynostrils LMAOO no chance. Kawhi is just as good of a defender 2 time DPOY and is WAY better at offense.
+DiamondDoesMC he's a better shooter but artest was good on offense
Are u dumb

this is why the nba has changed
Yep the is why the east became so shitty.
This was when the NBA was entertaining from a fans POV. You had these heated rivalries and everyone hated each other. WHAT HAPPENED TO THAT COMPETITION?????
yep, good or bad? both sides could be argued
Nice vid mike
+ILikePlanes Yes it makes it much more entertaining
You didn't mention that this is the major reason why the refs became stricter and continue to hinder the physicality of the league to this very day. The funny thing is, a player attacking a fan is nothing new in the NBA. In Game 6 of the 1981 ECF between the Celtics and Sixers at Philadelphia, Boston's Cedric Maxwell physically attacked an old guy in the crowd for something that the latter said. Yet even though there was shouting between the fans and players, the situation didn't mindlessly escalate into a brawl. Afterwards, Maxwell didn't even get a technical and was allowed to stay in the game as well as the rest of the postseason, inexplicably robbing Larry Bird of that year's Finals MVP.
jp3813 why did you write this
They should of arrested Cedric
jp3813 k
I think Ron winning the 2004 DPOY from Ben started a rivalry that culminated in Malice
That smug look on greens face when someone else is getting whooped up on for something he knows he did makes me wish jail was more like prison for his sake. How evil.
I truly wish Steve Jackson got him😒
I remember at the time that the word "baller" was synonymous with terms like "shot-caller" and rappers would use it hand-in-hand with metaphors to signal that they literally took peoples' lives, and how that attitude eventually carried into mainstream sports.
Ron Artest changed his name to Metta World Peace
Vortex Luigi Rosalina 55 No, really?
Let's Go Gaming yes he did!
Let's Go Gaming Sarcasm?????
Jack henson no?
Vortex Luigi Rosalina 55 "world peace" *beats up a fan*
There was a commentator that stated "Ben Wallace overreacted to a basic hard foul" nobody ever made that point. People blame Artest but he did what anyone would've done in his position.
Professionals should be held to a higher standard. That's why they are professionals
@@5678sothourn professionals are not expected to have things thrown on them and not react to it.... That sounds idiotic
I think this is all the pistons fault. The guy that started it all only got 6 GAMES!
His shove only indirectly led to the whole fiasco. It was completely out of his own will that Artest went into the stands. If nothing happened after, it would've have made any news. For that reason, he didn't deserve anything more.
I think artest started it. He shouldnt have intentionally fouled him hard
try getting elbowed and then pushed hard without a foul being called lets see if you think fouling yo fuckin shoulder a big thing
Retitle this "Best Night in NBA History!!!!"

What the fuck man
The LAST night in NBA history. After this, they started fixing all the games and the leagued sucked balls. Has ever since.
No now the NBA is soft bc of this
Thanks for the video! Keep up the good work! Now I understand those events.
The videos are like from 80's LOL.
I watched NBA the and as I remember the quality wasn't this bad then...
This well edited and the perfect breakdown. This from a lifetime Piston fan in Detroit that watched it live (on tv)
This is why the pacers can't make the finals when Lebron James was playing nice from 2010 - 2018
Never understood why O'Neal got punished. Those fans never had any business being on the court. They assumed the risk.
I knew something was gonna happen when Ron Artest was laying on the scorer's table but these events took it beyond 10. I don't feel sorry for the 2 fans who got on the court. They would got knocked the F#$$$D out
He never showed the fan throwing the chair at Ron Artest.
Really that happened
ExoTic Clan Damn i forgot about the chair throw.
Yes. That did happen. Although I'm not sure if he was ever caught
Who's here after the Lakers-Pistons fight?
Isaiah Stewart has his face all bloodied and LeBron got ejected after lol
Fun fact: Ron attacked the guy made the Bet to throw beer instead of the guy who threw it
It's still BS that Wallace got 6 games. He started everything.
All he did was shove Artest, the dumbass fan who went to jail for throwing the beer started the actual brawl.
Ben Wallace dad died before the game and that is why he was emotional
+Luqman Dahir so artest was in the right he should have hit the fans harder Wallace and the piston fans are to blame
Ben walace didn't punch a fan tho
Yea, going so hard to the basket AND pushing Artest after that with 40 seconds left in the game which was already lost? Wallace was a pathetic losers
We FINALLY found him!!!! The man who threw the beer is the ONE who FINALLY BROKE THE NBA!!!!
Who here after the lebron and stew fight
Almost like hockey. Where you go to a fight and hockey breaks out. love it
In the end, Artest has a ring. :)
So does that entire Pistons team
Reggie doesn't :/
So does Big Ben and the rest of the pistons team
