THIS is why the national media is COUNTING OUT the SEAHAWKS! (And why they're WRONG!)

- While optimism seems to be high among fans that the Seattle Seahawks will return to their contending ways with an improved roster and new head coach Mike Macdonald in the fold, the national media is painting a different picture.
Many of them (if not most) are projecting Seattle to finish not only out of the playoff race, but in some cases last in the NFC West (yes, BEHIND the Cardinals!)
Why is this?
I've identified a number of reasons that may help explain their reluctance to get on the Seahawks hype train just yet.

i would rather be an underdog then be overhyped
Yeah, makes it easier to over achieve. E.g year one of rebuild after Russ trafe
Amen, to that bro!
Not overhyped but give the HAWKS their dues. There are many teams in the NFL who have a bad OL, but always get a chance in the media about going to the Playoffs or Super Bowl.
100% agreed. We have one chance to fly under the radar and soar under McDonald. This year is big time.
With the improvements made, we could get two more games won. I can see the Hawks getting 11 wins. Win or lose, it’s gonna be an exciting adventure this season.
💚GO HAWKS!💙🏈
I am almost 80 years old and have been a football addict for most of my life! I know talent when I see it! I had never paid to much attention to Geno Smith until this year. There is a lot of talent there, so much in fact, it behooves me to try to figure out why he has been with so many different teams over the years. Is it his personality? Is it an inability to produce double figure wins consistently? He has played for some sorry teams which does not lend itself to double figure wins for any QB! Has the coaching he has had held him back? Or is it just Geno himself some times lapsing into mental blocks when the game is a toss up? With the talent he has around him and if Ryan Grubb is a good in-game coach, There is no reason Seattle can't win 11 to 12 regular season games! The back up QB Sam Howell, is capable of running the table on any team in the league if he can get time to throw and a defense that can hold a lead late in a game. If Geno gets hurt Seattle should not take a step backward. Sam will score and will never ever give up! Seattle has a lot of talent across the board and if they can stay healthy I see a super bowl run for them! POMO (New east coast fan)
That’s what I have been saying for the past 2 years. Geno was drafted to the jets, he didn’t stand a chance. It didn’t help he wasn’t a good leader coming into the league but the Jets also ran him into the ground and every team he went to had their “franchise” QB
- Philip Rivers
- Eli Manning
- Russel Wilson
The teams are willing to die on that hill when there is high capital wrapped into the franchise guy. Now does Geno make bad decisions sometimes? Yes he does like many other QB’s and Top QB’s. For example Josh Allen, the separator is Allen runs the ball, Geno doesn’t so everyone overlooks Allen’s mistakes.
Also receivers don’t help him when they run the wrong route so that makes Geno look like he threw a bad ball more times than not. Geno really does throw receivers open and throws the ball where the reciever is supposed to be. When the receiver doesn’t run the right route it’s an easy blown up play or a pick.
Lastly the defense was abysmal and the offensive play calling wasn’t that great
He improved over the years, working to hone his skills while he was a backup. But I think he probably got started too early and on a bad team. Teams that are bad tend to go for the next shiny QB in the draft to try to fix their franchise instead of addressing what is usually bigger issues. So they get into a QB carousel situation, which paints a narrative for those QBs that they're not good and then they rarely get a chance to prove otherwise.
"...analysts are lazy...", absolutely. Year after year the national talking heads declare "winners" of the draft, and "winners" of the off season, and "winners" of the preseason.........only to be embarrassed, if anyone remembers their predictions, during the season. It happens every season, and most of them don't learn from it. I'm another guy who loves being underestimated.
They Seahawks are always getting overlooked, just like the cowboys are always way to high in the power rankings lol! It’s pretty simple to understand how the Seahawks will do this year. I don’t believe the offense will go backwards, at worst they stay the same as last year, but it’s more likely they will improve especially if the line can stay remotely healthy. If the defense can get to just average, which if we remember, they were good at stopping the run until Nwosu went down last year… then how do they not win at LEAST one more game this year? That’s my two cents, go hawks! also bold prediction, we’ll beat the Niners in one game, the same for the rams, and we will sweep the cardinals. 🤙
Agree with alot of this. But the run defense. That was a mirage.
Good count us out. We play better with a chip on our shoulder
I think we're gonna surprise the hell outta the rest of the league! Can't wait for their reaction 🤣
I think it’s partly to do with their view of our division which is strong and the uncertainty of an entirely new and largely unproven coaching staff and players ability to adapt to the wholesale changes expected.
Geno is a seasoned Penix. This is a breakout season for him.
To get off-season buzz you need to either: have been a surprise playoff team last year (see Bucs, Rams) or have a new QB and/or significant upgrade at WR (see Commanders, Bears, Falcons, Vikings, Cardinals). Otherwise, you get labeled as "having questions" (see Seahawks). It's the same every year.
Geno! Geno! Geno!!! LFG Hawks!!!
Needs to be traded
@@Bobby-di1ve good luck with that bud
I think what's going on is what's always gone on: we're up here in the forgotten Pacific Northwest and it's relatively small media market. I'm glad it's so, this way we can be overlooked by a lot of teams and surprise them.
Yeah, we're being overlooked.. but it's honestly all I expect from the national media where the Seahawks are concerned. Ever since that debacle of shameful officiating in the Seattle - Pissburg Superbowl where we in Seattle were all expecting to hear a national outcry from the sports media for a terribly officiated game and it was crickets.. just gushing over Pissburgs undeserved win. Nah.. we get no love in Seattle, we may as well be Canada as far as the rest of the country is concerned. 😮💨
This is the best seahawks account on youtube
Wow thank you!!
We had 47 sacks last year. We should be better than that next year. I think 55 to 60.
Cowherd picking us last should make people sleep better
I'm convinced he does that sh*t on purpose to motivate the Seahawks.
Geno took 2, 4th and Goal sacks in the late 4th quarter vs. Bengals.
Unforgivable
I think people don’t understand how much more of a scheme and coaching issue it was rather than a talent issue. How could better coaching make the team worse?
Hope you're right but we don't know if it was just scheme. Pete won a ton of games with just talent. Why were we 9-8 2x if there was so much talent?
@@iron_bison I’m not trying to say we have a roster comparing to the 2012-2015 teams right now, but I truly believe (and I’ve heard this a lot over the offseason), that players were just not communicating and trusting each other in a way that would allow them to maximize their abilities. I’m just not sure why our defensive roster (thinking about the jimmies and joes we had) over the last few years was not capable of being at least top 20.
@@iron_bison Personally, I think Jamal Adam's bad attitude was a cancer in the locker room, and it was starting to spread to other players. That greatly impacted their ability to function as a unit. And although I love Pete, I don't think he did anything to shut that $hit down.
@@seahawksfan7298big agree here.
@@littlebilly8747listen I actually think it was coaching overall. Simple things like Love playing very well but keeping adams on the field. Wasting jsn like he's deebo when he never has been that. I'm overall stoked for what's next.
I think it’s pretty simple. The Seahawks brand of football has lost respect, over the last 5 years in particular, can you remember their last playoff win? I think it will take at least 2 years of consistent performance and playoff wins to win that respect back. Personally I think this team is on par with Detroit, The Rams and The Cowboys because JS addressed this team’s biggest weaknesses during the offseason, OC, defence and the O-line. I can easily see a 10 or 11 win season for this team this season.
I’m happy they are overlooked because other teams will underestimate them
Analysts: The Seahawks got rid of their greatest coach. They're toast.
Fans: Pete grew stale and was too slow to make changes.
Analysts: It will take years for the new coaching staff to make the playoffs
Fans: Have you been watching the steady decline of the defense and offense? The focus on defensive and offensive line improvements should take pressure off the other positions. This is going to be a fun team to watch barring injury. Remember the days we were supposed to lose the Superbowl to the highest scoring Broncos?
IDK if this falls under the "lazy analysis" category or not... One thing you see a lot from analysts is the idea that... there is ONE way to build a team, and ONE way to play the game. If you don't do that, your team sucks. It's about flashy gameplay (high volume passing/sacks), flashy (high dollar/high draft value) picks in flashy position groups (QB, WR, OT, pass rusher) to the utter disregard of all else, and the ubiquitous "offensive-minded head coach". The Hawks are playing a different style of ball, and trying to win in a different way. The thing is though... it's not flashy/sexy/orthodox enough. It's a modernized version of "slobberknocker" football, and a lot of fans/analysts hate the idea.
I don't hate it, not even a little.
Yesterday, John Middlekauff on the Colin Cowherd Podcast picked Seattle his most underrated NFL team in the league. He's been in the national minority for Seattle recognition.
As a 49ers fan, he pays close attention to Seattle.
It's the same people that said Russel was too short to become a productive QB !
to be fair it's nothing but speculation from both sides at this point. i'll get excited when i see it on the field.
Bill Simmons had some guy on doing their NFL betting lines or whatever a few weeks ago and both said the Seahawks beating their over/under was their #1 value slam dunk bet. overall its hard to predict with all new coaching etc but i like this team and they *might* be extremely good red hot out the gate. Carroll did a lot of good things but strategically msybe held them back... its unclear which way this goes which is why betting lines might be done this way, theyre saying its a coinflip at over/under point, however if it lands on the good end of that counflip generally, the ceiling could be extremely high. I dont see their D being KC 2024 solid professionsl grest just yet, so imo their D still what keeps them from super bowl posdiblity but hey lets see 🤷🏻♂️
Let them count Seattle out, look what happened last time 😂
I’m gonna repeat this…Geno took 2 sacks on possible scoring drives, in the late 4th qtr. BOTH ON 4TH AND GOAL!!!
UNFUCKING-FORGIVABLE
This is such a quality presentation and talk. Dan is a seasoned pro at this and you can just tell.
Thank you!!
I like when they count us out, then when we make some noise it will shut their mouths real quick.
This dismissal of the Seahawks by the sports world in the US is nothing new. It's been going on for decades. But one decade ago, it was especially rife with rank stupidity. Ever since their fabulous rise in 2013 culminating in a blowout win in SB 48, I kept seeing polls that said football fans, who weren't Seahawks fans, ranks SB 48 as the worst SB game ever. Why? Because they were all Denver fans. I thought the game was outstanding. Finally, the 'Hawks were giving Denver a taste of their own medicine. I hope that the McDonald era brings us another great team that decidedly pisses everyone off who isn't a Seahawks fan.
We won 9 games with (at times) abysmal coaching and playcalling and a locker room that was (at least in parts) tired of the same old stories and/or frustrated with the vanilla concepts. Absolutely nothing and nobody can convince me that this team, coached by the hottest commodity on the coaches market, will win less than 8 games. If the newness in year one holds us back we may end up >10 Wins, if it doesn't im fully expecting us to compete for the NFC West Chip
Great show! I think the Seahawks are gonna prove a lot of ppl wrong this year. Amazing work as always Dan!
1st time head coach. Our defense was bad. I can see it.
Offense stinks too with Geno starting
The truth is it doesn't matter what everyone else says or does the players seem to want to play for him and that will make the hawks winner's and that is why I'm not worried.
Mike MacDonald is a thorn in the 9ers side. He completely destroyed Purdy last season. I think Seattle's defense, once it gets rolling full steam is going to be a wrecking ball. Go Seahawks!...
But, the ILBs worry me, especially if Baker and/or Dodson get injured. Then the ILB position must rely on some unproven backup.
*There* we go. While you're not supporting this statement with a link to a video showing _how_ he did that, at least you're pointing it out. Most people don't grasp play-calling even with video showing it anyway. He's steps ahead of Shanahan & that is saying something.
Andy Reid is good at planning ahead. Most NFL HCs however are at their worst when their in-game plans don't work right off. This is where Mike McD shines.
Yes, I expect this team to contend. The real challenge for them will be the Rams though. McVay is less tight with his schemes. That allows his players to adjust mid-play better. I wonder though if McD's understanding of how to undermine offenses means he can also call good offensive plays. Bellichick never could.
If I'm being honest, I prefer having expectations and pressure because that means the team has a chance to accomplish something big. But being written-off as an also-ran can be useful, too.
GO HAWKS......😊
One bad season could be the best thing for us though 😅 get a high pick, draft a young qb and GO! I like Geno, but is he the long term future, im doubtful
We are going to give the NFL a heart check, the seahawk BLAST😊
New listener from the UK just found ya channel. New subscriber.
Looking forward to season 💯 🏈
Go Hawks❕❕
Welcome aboard and thanks!
I think I’m a first time listener. Subbed for the style of presentation. Go hawks.
Thank you! Much appreciated. Go Hawks!
I'm a realist, I don't think we'll do particularily well this season. But, if we win more than 6 games I'll be optimistic for next year and forward.
A few weeks ago I figured out EXACTLY how to describe Kyler, he’s a ton of flash with basically 0 consistency
I mean, nobody knows, not us and not them. We've been rolling out the same thing for a decade, just excited to see something different, good or bad. 😅
The odds of them being bad are much higher than being good. As I've said there are just too many ifs for them to be more than bad. A completely new staff. New offense and defense. 5 or more new starters on defense. The OL has questions at both guards and center. Is Cross a starting LT. Is Lucus going to be able to play 17 games. Is DK at top WR or a guy who struggles to beat most CB and get 1000 yards. 6 wins would be a about right with all the question marks everywhere on the team and roster. Now if all the ifs work out 12-5. More likely 6-11.
Lots of changes, doesn't happen with the snap of a finger, especially with unfamiliar coaching. Talent and organization looks to be there, but it is going to take a little bit of time. I'm okay with that. Move forward.
Pete's a legend but it took til year three to be very good and year four to start being great.
Yes, they are underestimating the players and the coaches we've picked up this years off season!😊
I say 10 - 11 wins the Seahawks are going to surprise alot people including those in the national media
I feel like this team could be like the Houston Texans last year. A team that no one had positive expectations for, new head coach, projected 4-5 wins at most, but ended up silencing doubters and made the playoffs.
Different type of quarterback
@@Bobby-di1ve I’m doubling down on my statement
Good show. Honestly won't be optimistic about the oline til i see it. Every year its blythe, then brown, etc. They are always adding new players but yet never really consistent since '12-'14.
Forget about the national media, more importantly, can they beat Brock Purdy?
We won 9 games last year and were an end zone drop away from the playoffs. If we don't win at least 11 games then there was no reason to fire Pete. You don't fire everyone to take a step back.
Pete's a legend but this team wasn't going anywhere for half a decade with him. Pete had to go after they got pushed around by the steelers.
@@iron_bison understood. My point is that at some point on the show they were debating Seahawks winning 9 games or not. Clearly if we did that with rhe coach who was let go...
Yes, but *you're* not saying why any more than anyone _else_ is. They don't win games by you Loudly Stating that you think you they will. & if you don't know wtf went wrong _last_ season, how tf do you know they *fixed anything **_this_** season?*
I’m always mystified as to why people care so much what sports riders think. At the end of the day, the games still have to be played. And the result of those games is the only thing that matters. Stop giving a shit what some writer from the athletic who probably lives in Des Moines thinks.
6 n 11 all W in the division 😂 I would be cool with that 😂 really will be fun to watch our seahawks be underdogs kaw kaw kaw 😅
Kyler Murray is a little punk... This Cardinals will be terrible again
Pretty much all Media has become a joke. Not going to lose any sleep over what they say lol. We will all find out when the Hawks hit the field.
Love my hawks. However the division and conf runs through SF. Det is actively trying to get better, we haven't caught up to GB. Sea will maybe make the playoffs via wild card and if so will be bounced out quickly. Its fine, we have a new staff good crop of young players maybe next year after a yea of seasoning for everyone to include the staff....
Genos throws are laser beams.
No comprobable HC and barely enough QB is why everybody overlook Seattle
listened to the first half of this video. you were up to 4 or 5 "I'll get back to thats" and had got back to none at that point.
And yet then I wrapped it up in my Cardinals comments.
Go Hawks!
Mariners need more cowbell
How often is vegas wrong about the top eight teams in the league... Seattle ain't nowhere to be found
Need a qb
That's the whole problem Geno doesn't throw down field, just short ass passes
The Seattle Under-Hawks!
DL talent they said that last year how did that turn out. It's a show me league. Until they show people, they don't suck against the run they suck against the run. They only have what they saw the last two years Seattle couldn't stop the run to save their lives. Teams like TB one year who was the worst running team in the NFL for the other 16 games ran for their season high of 140+ on them. They didn't average over 60 against anyone else. So yeah, show me you aren't going to suck. For all the CB talent they could defend the pass again to save their lives. Show me you can but I can say you can. Against the Giants last year, they got was it 11 sack and had Jones not thrown the pick Seattle was struggling to beat an awful Giants team. The Giants were down there about to make it a 1 score game late in the game. So yeah, show me you aren't going to suck.
It's because the Hawks were on of the healthiest teams last year and had one of the worst defenses. The rest of nations doesn't care about excuses or players potiental they care about what the team did.
The national media won’t talk about us unless we’re 6-2 heading into week 9. That’s when the “should we be talking about the Seahawks more?” sports take will start making the rounds.
And if we lose the following game, expect to immediately get shelved for the rest of the season. 😂
I tend to agree with them. I see 8&9. Maybe 7-1o. Mostly because everything is new. Coaching, play calling & most of the players have never played together.
I'd love for everything to hit but it does seem unlikely that everything improves greatly in one year.
Well, the Seahawks arguably got the #1 defensive mind in the NFL (MacDonald), who took the Ravens defense from being ranked in the mid-20s to top 5 in a single year.
Hawks also got the #1 offensive coordinator in college football (Grubb), who seems like he's plenty smart enough to adjust his style to the pros.
For everything to click to the point where they go to the Super Bowl does seem fanciful, but there are all kinds of reasons to believe this team should be improved from last year.
@AbbeyRoadkill1 I'm dreaming of big things but I also remember Staley being a hot coordinator and grubb should be great but it's still a jump from college to the pros.
True I’d rather be an underdog than overhyped and I’d rather be looked over because we play better when nobody pays attention to us. We’ve always been overlooked yeah I mean I’ve been Seahawk fans and 76 1976. We will overlook into dogs.
they are just selling their content to big markets and telling them what they want to hear. They make more money selling the big market teams.
8-9.
11-4 record. Go Hawks.
Not with that quarterback
They literally always do this isnt surprising😂
Thanks!
Thank you so much!!!
Not going to lose both games to 49er or rams
Excellent! Kyler Murray is an arrogant narcissist. Selfish, childish and WAY over-paid. I'll take Geno over Tyler anytime. What's your 'guesstimate' on W/L?
always great analysis!!!!
Thank you!
Let them sleep GO HAWKS!!!
These predictions are ridiculous. Macdonald replacing Hurtt, instant major upgrade. Grubb replacing Waldron, instant major upgrade. The roster, upgrades where needed, D line, depth added where needed, Grubbs system fits Geno and his weapons perefectly. The coach who was just awarded the best offensive line in college football, has taken over this offensive line. The "long held biases" are hard at work.
The Cards have some talent, but coaching is a huge question mark, as is QB. The Rams look most improved of the remaining 3. The Niners havent done anything to get better. They already peaked, going on their third DC in 3 years too.
Seahawks will more than likely shock these naysayers.
Further to your numbers for Geno. Yes they are lazy. You pointed out the obvious, when the D can't get off the field. When the TOP, is heavily in favor of the opponent, and the number of offensive possessions is at the bottom of the league...would Mahomes, Allen or anyone else look better? Geno consistently made chicken salad out of chicken shit, just wait until he has a chance with a real offensive coordinator instead the joke that Waldron is.
@@lannybackes1053 Well? How is simply stating "we upgraded" _NOT_ also lazy? Geno was a top-10 QB last season with a receiving corps that got upgraded _this_ season.
Did that upgrade lead to better passing stats? If not, why not? Why are the upgrades you're listing any different?
You're just making unsupported statements too.
@@ChewsCarefully Just keeping it short and on point. The other analysts write complete articles about this stuff. No room for that here.
@@lannybackes1053 I getcha. I just wanted to see if you had any inside knowledge. I don't know what the various plays are *called.* But I can usually see when it's bad. Week 2 I could already tell that the Jags were running _none_ of the offensive plays that worked last season. With the Seahawks, the problems seemed to be down the field where I couldn't see what was going wrong. I heard things though.
The great QB play from '22 went to Tampa with Canales & Waldron fared worse with the same team plus Bobo & JSN. So yeah, it seems like a good thing he's gone. Makes you wonder how he's gonna do in CHI with an inferior team.
I love analysis. & while I know most people don't like long comments, I like learning.
@@ChewsCarefully I coached HS ball for 11 years, and was assistant director and coach at a year round academy where we also held off season training for pros. I'm not boasting, just saying that to someone who coached the game a long time, the coaching shortfalls were obvious. The talent is on the field!
Yeah, who cares? If the 'hawks are dismissed after week 4, there is probably good reason.
No Damn RESPECT! Well the NFL channel has already decided we aren't important enough to bother with even though they have been on the west coast all week! They have been to every camp this week except us & I guess we are back to NO RESPECT BC Seahawks again Before Carroll!
Everybody sleeping on the Hawks!!!
Tribal, not tribunal
Rookie head coach, rookie DC, rookie OC…. And one of worst OLinez in 🏈… yeah on paper a 6-7 win team.
This is not true.
What isn’t?
bad coach
Who is?
Yes, better to be a underdog than the team everyone looks at...NFL won't see us coming. ..It will be a surprise 😲 to all but us ...And many not giving Geno no credit still and the head coach Ravens McDonald ....
Me stinks you may be an Whineoholic!!
Maybe I need to read more articles or watch nfl network, but I havent seen anyone hyping the cardinals. But thats fine what they are saying, they doubt us every year. Nothing new. But the cardinals suck and will continue to suck.
Im excited and optimistic about next year. I think in 2 years it will be much better. Cant wait for football to start! Its a long summer.
